Bonjour. This is now driving me mad. Just over a year ago (I had to go hunt down the thread, here: http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse/2014-01/msg00988.html) the issue was once again raised of why temp files were not being cleaned at boot (on openSUSE 13.1) if one tried to set the system to do so. It was established that the cron job configurable from YaST's sysconfig editor was no longer functional since supposedly being replaced by the all-round saviour and tuck-your-sheets-in-would-you-like-a-cup-of-hot-cocoa-with-that princess that is systemd. Except that the replacement doesn't work. At least not on any of my 13.1 installations, whereupon both /tmp and /var/tmp become laden with relics that outright refuse to ever part my system, gradually filling my root partition until there is no more room for maneouvre. Currently my /tmp is sitting at 5GB. Looking at files in there, many are up to a year old. It seems to just accumulate stuff like an eccentric lonely old man with an attic. This was a fresh 13.1 installation made about a year ago. The root partition (ext4) is 17GB, about half of which was filled after installation. Now there's little left. It was also established that SuSE likes to do its SuSEy thing and go its own way, against systemd defaults, in preserving temp files across reboots, since some SuSErs want their systems configured that way and consider /tmp to be a persistent directory. I copied the file from /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/tmp.conf to /etc/tmpfiles.d/tmp.conf and still, nothing happens, either upon rebooting or any other time in the last 28 hours or so since. I looked at the current 13.1 release notes via the link in YaST. There's no mention of this issue. Having recently received a couple of emails relating to long-forgotten bug reports that have now, years later, having received no attention, been marked as WONTFIX for being related to a version of openSUSE that has reached End of Life, it doesn't inspire me with great hope that I'll see an actual proper fix for this during the lifetime of 13.1. [opensuse] ownCloud password

I have logged into my computer today to find that owncloud is asking for a password every time it opens! I have checked the kde wallet and the password in there is correct. I have tried re-adding the kde wallet password. I have tried removing and re-installing oencloud I have tried using snapper to roll back to yesterday (when it worked fine) I am using owncloud 1.7.1 and opensuse 13.2 64-bit Everything is fine on my work computer and my laptop using the same versions. I am assuming that something is wrong in the owncloud settings for my user. When I re-installed owncloud it remembered all the settings. I want to try and do a complete clean install but there is no .owncloud folder in my home directory. After Grub has been practically abandoned with version 13.2 I tried to change my Grub into Grub2. In Yast at the bootloader part I changed into Grub2 from do not install bootloader and got following cryptic piece of information: iconTheme "oxygen" Run command: /sbin/yast2 bootloader & YaST got signal 11 at file /usr/share/YaST2/modules/Popup.rb:961 /sbin/yast2: line 426: 7798 Segmentation fault $ybindir/y2base $module "$@" "$SELECTED_GUI" $Y2_GEOMETRY $Y2UI_ARGS Apart from a certain aversion to be forced to use Grub2 this message made it impossible to make the change easy. Actually it seems and area where the three main B-Tree file systems, XFS, ReiserFS and BtrFS excel in that they are all capable of doing something like this. Other FS may do something like this too. It may be something to do with the way a B-tree indexes, I don't know the details, but I do recall from my database days that B-tree indexes can point "inside" leafs. [opensuse] Clean 13.2, squid package updated today, complains about wrong settings? Why?

Clean 13.2 64bit, with squid installed. Today came a squid update package via zypper up. (24/30) Installing: squid-3.4.4-3.4.2 ...................................................................[done] Additional rpm output: /var/cache/squid: cannot verify squid:root 0750 - not listed in /etc/permissions /var/log/squid: cannot verify squid:root 0750 - not listed in /etc/permissions Updating /etc/sysconfig/squid... As I asked earlier before, how come that linux (opensuse?) software guys reconsider stuff so often or bring their software in such faulty or misaligned states that users get such messages and worse? [opensuse] Passing parameters to grub2 at boot time

I foolishly upgraded my graphics drivers and now have an unbootable system. It gets halfway through the boot sequence then produces a message about NVRAM over and over ad infinitum. It scrolls past too quickly to read. Anyway, what I'd like to do is boot into the machine in text mode (I think this used to be called runlevel 3, in legacy grub days), from where I could run yast and reinstall the correct graphics drivers. But, I don't how to do this. I've tried pressing 'c' to get to the grub> prompt, but don't know what to do next. [opensuse] 13.1 server semi-freeze, apparmor probs

This am my 13.1 server apparently ran out of tmp space, df gave no output for so long I killed it. My email client complained of "no tmp space available", and attempting to clear tmp space provided "read only file system". I rebooted the server which cleared tmp space but came up in "service" mode complaining of apparmor probs with dovecot. I disabled dovecot and restarted server and found same situation with apache2. I went no farther with apparmor but logged on and changed to runlevel 3. System appears to perform "normally". I cleared aged entries in /tmp and /var/tmp w/o incident. System appears working correctly but if I need to reboot, I can only do so locally as the box boot to service/recovery mode requiring action before achieving network. [opensuse] systemd service unit - instance id in ExecStart ?

I am creating a postfix service unit with support for multiple instances. I tried adding this: ExecStartPre=/etc/%i/system/config_postfix ExecStartPre=/etc/%i/system/update_chroot ExecStartPre=/etc/%i/system/update_postmaps which doesn't seem to work. I guess there's no instance id substitution in the name of the executable, only in the arguments?
