Hello openSusers, I wonder share my doubt here despite not being totally a Linux related question. Summary: I have two Lenovo laptops both using Win7 Home Premium 64 bits, one is a single boot all Windows the other (home computer) is a dual boot Win7<-->OpenSUSE 13.1. I get an Anytime Upgrade key and I succeeded upgrading the first Lenovo from Home Premium to Ultimate. Instead after three attempts on second lenovo the upgrade always reverts to previous version. That system uses Grub2 as bootmanager and if I'm not wrong I installed it on MBR then I suppose that the Anytime Upgrade could be failing for exactly this reason. Is it of any logical possibility? Shall I reinstall the Win7 bootloader on MBR? Any suggestions welcomed! [opensuse] WiFi problem - laptop on/off switch

Hello listers, I have a laptop (HP dv2035us - pavillion) with both OS 11.2 and 11.4 installed. The wireless works in 11.2, but not in 11.4. It has an Intel Pro/Wireless 3945AG/BG chip. The laptop has a wireless on/off button at the front left. When I boot 11.2 (KDE) the wireless light does not come on, but then if I turn the wireless switch off and then back on again, the wireless light comes on and it works. However, on 11.4, the wireless will not work, even after playing with the switch. The stock 11.4 kernel, the regular updates nor updating to Evergreen 11.4 made no difference. Since the wireless light does not come on, ifconfig shows only lo and eth0 - no wlan0. The behavior with the on/off switch also used to happen when I had OS 10.3 on the machine. It was a bit annoying, but the wireless could be made to work. The wireless modules loaded at boot are - in 11.2: iwl3945, iwl_core, mac80211, cfg80211 in 11.4: iwl3945, iwl_legacy, mac80211, cfg80211 I suspect a missing package or configuration problem, and I have googled but I am visually impaired so I have not been exhaustive at it. I have looked at dmesg (nothing seems seriously off) but not other logs. Why can not we have a global and unique search engine, accessible from all desktops "brands"? Not one per desktop, increasing used resources tremendously. One that we can enabled or disabled easily (opt-in, not opt-out), tunable, with permission access, etc. And that it works. For instance, I want email search. Thunderbird has one, working togetehr with tracker, I think. Awful. I had to disable it. Could not find things, and wanted to index remote imap accounts, causing huge internet trasnfers, and huge CPU loads. Now I use dovecot internal indexing (lucene) and works fine accessed from Thunderbird. [opensuse] Total system crash when test writing to reiserfs partition.

Hi, I'm doing a speed test on a 3TB disk with 19 GPT partitions, and got a full system crash. Keyboard not responding (Uppercase LED does not light when the appropriate key is pressed), machine stops responding to ping. This happened twice, and only when the partition is reiserfs (btrfs not tested yet). The test is this: I format all the 19 partitions as XFS (150 GiB each), then write on each partition 3 files of 4 GiB with this code: dd if=/dev/zero of=/mnt/test/fichero_$X count=20 bs=100M conv=fdatasync which I time and record on a file on another disk. Then I delete those files, and create 3000 files of 1 MB each, with this code: NUMFICPEQ=3000 SECS1=`date +%s` for Z in `seq 1 $NUMFICPEQ`; do dd if=/dev/zero of=/mnt/test/fichero_$Z count=1 bs=1M conv=fdatasync >> Detailedlogfile 2>&1. done SECS2=`date +%s` DIFF=`expr $SECS2 - $SECS1` echo echo "==== Written $NUMFICPEQ ficheros in $DIFF seconds (Part $X)" | tee -a sometextfile The test is repeated 3 times for the 19 partitions. Then I reformat them all as reiserfs, and repeat all the above. The formatting is done with: mkfs.reiserfs -l speed_$X -q $DISK$X 2>&1 | tee -a registro_particionado.txt The first crash happened on partition number 10, first iteration. I verified the partition, added code to the dd line to log the output, and repeated. Second crash happened on partition 14, second loop.
