[opensuse] updating bios with windows/dos utility

Just replaced the motherboard in my Dell Latitude D630 laptop but it comes with an older version of the BIOS installed (A15), and it's apparently quite critical that I have at least A16 (my old motherboard had A17). Of course Dell only supply a Windows/DOS update utility. I found this page detailing how to make it work with FreeDOS: http://www.linuxinsight.com/how-to-flash-motherboard-bios-from-linux-no-dos… But it seems either out of date or not relevant to openSUSE since I cannot get 'loop' to show in /proc/filesystems, even after installing a couple of dependencies I thought may be related. So instead of creating a file FDOEM.144 with my BIOS update patched into it I just get a directory /tmp/floppy created and nothing else. Anybody know how to adapt this to work under openSUSE 13.2? [opensuse] SuSE 13.1: digikam changes photos

Hello, how do I tell digikam to keep the downloaded photos as they are, not adding anything? digikam alsways seems to insert e.g. "Processing Software : digiKam-3.5.0 Software : digiKam-3.5.0" into the exif data. Is there some "do not touch" mode? Did not find anything in the manpage. If that is not possible: which other camera software can I use to download photos from the camera? Any official release of exfat software for SuSE 13.1 to directly read the SDXC card? [opensuse] cli find cmd syntax

Hi, I am endeavouring to print a list of my Maildir folders to a file so that I can use that same list when I construct a Procmailrc file. Initially I ran ~> find $HOME/Maildir -type d -print | sort > /home/hylton/maillistdir **sample snip*** /home/hylton/Maildir/.INBOX.A-F.Bookstores.Kalahari /home/hylton/Maildir/.INBOX.A-F.Bookstores.Kalahari/courierimapkeywords /home/hylton/Maildir/.INBOX.A-F.Bookstores.Kalahari/cur /home/hylton/Maildir/.INBOX.A-F.Bookstores.Kalahari/new /home/hylton/Maildir/.INBOX.A-F.Bookstores.Kalahari/tmp ******** I noticed that there were many sub-folders I did not need. Given this list ended up being 273pg, after a short stint at editing it I decided there had to be a way to exclude certain folders. What I need is the namesand paths of the folders ie /home/hylton/Maildir/.INBOX.A-F.Bookstores.Kalahari , not the /cur, /tmp, /new or even the /courierimapkeywords sub-folders. So far I have: ~> find $HOME/Maildir -type d $ ! -name tmp $ -o $ ! -name cur $ -o $ ! -name new $ -o $ ! -name courierimapkeywords $ | -print | sort > /home/hylton/maillistdir The above command returns a 'Command not found' in my destination file of maillistdir. I have RTFM'd, Googled and still cannot find an example of what I want to do. I even visited the sites Aaron Digulla gave me on an earlier pointing to the complexities of find. [opensuse] grub2 installation onto mdraid raid device

Hello: Here is what I would like to do: I have a system with two linux OSs, both are installed on mdraid raid1. I would like to install grub2 on the root partitions/devices of the given OSs, and a grub2 on MBR. The MBR grub2 would only chainload the other grub2 on the root partition. Is this possible, how? I tried to install grub2 on /dev/md2 using grub-install /dev/md2 and grub-setup /dev/md2 but apparently it hasn't succeeded, I can not chainload it. I would not like to have the real loader on MBR. [opensuse] Odd SAMBA/BTRFS problem?

openSUSE 13.2 machine with btrfs for / Running samba-4.1.14-3.3.x86_64. Samba is configured to have the server act as a member server in a Windows Activedirectory domain. wbinfo -u and getent passwd work fine. getent passwd shows local and domain users. However, setfacl -n -R -m u:userX:rwx /testpath fails if userX is a domain user, but succeeds if userX is a local user. Using different specifications for userX ('domain\userX') still fail. Hey, after installing 13.2 I'm struggling with several problems. One of the problems I haven't been able to solve yet, is the high power consumption of a ThinkPad T430s with Ivy bridge and Intel HD Graphics (NVidia Optimus is completely disabled via the BIOS). After activating powersave for Intel WiFi and Intel HDA Sound, the old 13.1 installation consumes about 8.5W at 60% screen brightness.[0] Under the same prerequisites, the 13.2 installation consumes 10.5W, i.e., 25% more. Powertop is clueless and thinks the display backlight consumes 9W ( and at 0% brightness 7W). According to http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTc3NTE there is a power regression in the Intel Graphics driver. Although the underlying change should only affect Haswell, there are reports that Ivy Bridge might suffer, too. However, forcing Frame Buffer Compression does not considerably reduce the power consumption of the 13.2 installation. Any ideas? [opensuse] dsl network connection type setup in yast

Hello: The question applies to openSUSE 13.1, 13.2, possibly older versions too. What is the correct method to set up DSL network in YAST? What I would like to know exactly, what to choose in YAST Control Center -> Network Devices -> Network Settings -> Overview -> Edit -> Network Card Setup -> Address tab. There are three options there: - No Link and IP Setup (Bonding Slaves) - Dynamic Address x) DHCP x) DHCP + Zeroconf x) Zeroconf - Statically assigned IP Address If I know correctly DSL does not use DHCP, but I don't have and assigned static IP address either. The provider assigns an IP address at every connection but not by DHCP (?) . If I set it to DHCP (in oS 12.2), network connection works but I have in /var/log/messages many: eth0: broadcasting for a lease eth0: timed out So, what is the correct setting?
