[opensuse] SuSE 13.1: digikam changes photos
Hello, how do I tell digikam to keep the downloaded photos as they are, not adding anything? digikam alsways seems to insert e.g. "Processing Software : digiKam-3.5.0 Software : digiKam-3.5.0" into the exif data. Is there some "do not touch" mode? Did not find anything in the manpage. If that is not possible: which other camera software can I use to download photos from the camera? Any official release of exfat software for SuSE 13.1 to directly read the SDXC card? shotwell. If the camera uses mtp, or some known protocol over the usb cable, the file browser may be able to see it and get the files directly, in which case there will be no alteration at all. I think that's the only way to ensure it.
Any official release of exfat software for SuSE 13.1 to directly read the SDXC card?
I don't think so. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 13.1 x86_64 "Bottle" at Telcontar)

What is your camera? Modern cameras support something like MTP which will allow transfer over USB as if they were files -- the protocol makes the camera store look like a USB store :-) You might also look at DARKTABLE. That doesn't alter the image, rather it makes a parallel file of the changes that are interpreted when viewing with darktable. http://www.darktable.org/usermanual/ch01s03.html.php Yes you can export the result but the imported file is not changed. As for exfat ... Its encumbered by Microsoft patents and so can't be included with any distribution. darktable 1.6.0 is exactly what I was looking for. Thx!
Yes you can export the result but the imported file is not changed.
I can export 16 Bit photos now from RAW, but for the time being simple setup like gimp 2.8.14 is not capable of working with that, it only works with 8Bit. Does anybody have experience with Photivo? http://photivo.org/start Thx -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

What are you exporting as? yes you want GIMP 2.9 or 2.10 for 16 bit functionality at all levels rather than just in the core ... Or is there a plugin-in? or perhaps you have to set the 16-bit precision BEFORE you import... http://libregraphicsworld.org/blog/entry/gimp-2.8-released-next-version-to-g... https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-user-list/2012-May/msg00368.html <quote src="https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-user-list/2013-December/msg00225.html"> In January/February, Michael Natterer and Michael Henning ported the FITS plug-in to GEGL and added support for more bit depth modes, namely 16 and 32 integers, 32bit floats, and double-precision floats. I tried to compile the newest version of gimp. But gegl complained about checking for GLIB - version >= 2.40.0... no There is 2.38.2-8.2 on my SuSE 13.1 . :-( That seems to be more complicated... Neither compiled GIMP 2.8.14, nor 2.8.6-3.2.2 from SuSE do have the precision switcher menu shown in the above libregraphicsworld page. But photivo is compileable with --with-quantum-depth=16 and that can handle the RAW file, tif and png 16 bit, if there is anything that is not doable in darktable. darktable 1.6.0 is exactly what I was looking for.
After some experimenting I found out that darktable always makes up a new directory with the import date, thus resulting in possible double imports. :-( Could not find anything in darktable to stop that. "override today's date" (import settings) does not work in darktable 1.6.0 . So I took a look at shotwell and this seems to be more comfortable for importing. Importing as importing into darktable's catalogue or importing as "copying" to disk from camera/card? Darktable provides full control of the catalogue import structure in the manner *you* configure. I cannot speak nor have I tried using darktable to copy from camera/card to disk. I use the cl, or mc to copy into a directory I have made in the manner I prefer.

There are later versions of darktable available, http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/toganm:/photography/openSUSE... I use this repo and have for some time w/o problem.
So I took a look at shotwell and this seems to be more comfortable for importing.
This comment really makes me believe you are speaking of "copying" or moving files from camera/card to disk. If you are uncomfortable with the command-line, try rapid-photo-downloader, dolphin, konqueror, mc, krusader, ..... ps: did you ever look at darktable preferences -> config -> session options -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

It is not actually in the EXIF info, it is in the XMP info, which is an extension to exif. Each file digikam creates has this plugged in, as does Photoshop, Picasa, etc. Its a pretty standard thing, which you many want to think twice before rushing out to remove it. If you want to publish a picture anonymously, you might remove all exif information, but otherwise, you typically want to keep this information in your working images. -- After all is said and done, more is said than done. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
