[opensuse] Missing Mime handler for application/x-gzip

Hi guys, I'm trying to play a flash video ( .flv), but none of the players in opensuse work. Some complain that they are looking for the decoder for "application/x-gzip" This ought to be easy to provide, but I'm not sure what they want for a program to handle this. Any thoughts on getting this to work? Thanks. Lance Drager

I'm trying to move some php code from an opensuse 11.1 system to a 13.1 ditto, and I need to rebuild the mailparse extension. This normally entails downloading the extension, running phpize, configure then make. [opensuse] SuSE 13.1: kernel panic at boot time

Hello, I just updated my laptop from OpenSuSE 12.1 to 13.1. Now the system has a kernel panic from time to time when booting. On the older SuSE systems I was using the boot.omsg for such issues, but I am not an expert for systemd. I now know journalctl /usr/lib/systemd/systemd -b but this does not show the previous crashed boot. journalctl /usr/lib/systemd/systemd --boot=-1 failed. How can I log the boot process to see a complete systemd crash log? [opensuse] OpenSuSE 13.1: "System policies prevent you from getting the brightness level"

After setting my security settings to a more secure setting in yast2 I suddenly get a message "System policies prevent you from getting the brightness level as soon as the brightness is adjusted automatically or via keys on the laptop. All this under KDE4 and on the laptop that I updated from 12.1 to 13.1 lately. SuSE updates are from October 3rd, 2014. This was not the case before when using less secure settings. I've seen Bug 269310 - Senseless "System policies prevent you from getting the brightness level" dialog https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=269310 but this is from 2014-01-07 and says "This is still a problem w/ openSUSE 13.1 and KDE 4.11.4." Are there any better news about this bug? Do I have to change some policy settings or file attributes? [opensuse] apper problem on 13.1 32-bit

A couple of weeks ago I started seeing a little red box with a white X in it on my kde panel. When I hover the mouse over it it reads: file:///usr/share/kde4/apps/plasma/plasmoids/org.packagekit.updater/contents/ui/main.qml:22:1: plugin cannot be loaded for module "org.kde.apper": Cannot load library /usr/lib/kde4/imports/org/kde/apper/libapperplugin.so (libapper.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory) When, as root, I run apper I get: # apper apper(3886): KUniqueApplication: Cannot find the D-Bus session server: "Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken." apper(3885): KUniqueApplication: Pipe closed unexpectedly. When, as user, I run apper I get a graphical box that says: Cannot load library /use/lib/kde4/kcm_apper.so: (libapper.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory) Cannot load library /usr/lib/kde4/kcm_apper.so: (libapper.so: cannot open shared object file: Nosuch file or directory) Possible reasons: *An error occured during your last KDE upgrade leaving an orphaned control module *You have old third party modules lying around. I can still get updates with yast but it would be nice to have apper working again. I have removed and reinstalled apper and all the above files seem to be present. re: Flash buffer overflow/malicious code execution exploit: https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2014-0515 One of my systems runs OS 11.2 and there is no Flash patch available, so it is definitely vulnerable to this exploit BUT on it I use flashblock in Firefox and have the Flash plugin disabled in Opera. My thinking is that if Flash is not running, then no exploit. Is that correct or am I missing something? [opensuse] Bash shell text entry problem

I'm having a problem attempting to enter the character "C" (shift-c) in a bash shell. When I enter that character alone or in a string, it doesn't appear on the display. I've saved a file containing the string I entered but it isn't among what was saved. This even occurs when copying a string from a listing. I've searched all the global and standard shortcuts but haven't found anything related. I've probably pressed the "c" key by mistake at some time in the past but don't know where to look further. This apparently has something to do with the user profile as it doesn't occur with another user. I've checked my custom .bashrc in my profile but can't find anything there. I know I could create a new profile for myself but hate doing that as I have it heavily customized. Can anyone recommend what files to look at in the current profile that affect bash shell?
