Hello:
Recently I see a process called parallel at the very top
of top command results window. It uses more CPU than
Xorg, my web browser, and everything else.
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
1603 lp 20 0 40348 1656 1188 S 2.3 0.0 2:07.53 parallel
What is parallel? The user who runs it is lp.
Is it the parallel port? But why is it using the
most CPU, when I haven't used anything using lp port?
This is on openSUSE 12.2.
Thanks,
Istvan

First request is to please don't top post as someone points it out of
etiquette and you know that, I believe. Second thing which I want to
make you clear is that I read mails here and from those mails, I learn
-- ok not all but at least more than zero. So you should not say like
that. Thirdly, when the topic was on the mailing lists, I preferred
the response there itself unless explicitly at one reason exists.
Fourth, every user who uses free, can know and learn and asks the
things. Fifth, I know openSUSE is a good distro and that's why wanted
to know its usage.

Hello,
As for information point of view, can I know where-where openSUSE is
used around the globe....? Like in organizations,
universities/colleges or companies....
Thanks.

In particular, a package such as 'acroread' make little sense, as this

Hi,
Sad to write this but I'm seriously thinking to migrate my openSUSE
system toward Linux Mint 15.
I installed Mint 15 as VirtualBox guest and it looks really superb with
very crisp desktop and fonts and furthermore is working flawlessly!
On the contrary I installed openSUSE 13.1 RC1 as well as VirtualBox
guest but are still present some problems with Bluetooth and with Screen
identification despite I installed Guest Additions.
Ok RC1 is not the final version but sincerely I was expecting a better
behaviour by openSUSE!
Please tell me that I am wrong.
Regards,

Hello
Is it possible to get a {compressed} list of all packages on the opensuse
build service using osc or similar ?
Can all the packages across openSUSE Build Service be listed.
I know this is a long..long list and it would change daily.
- Can gzip 9 or similar be use to compress list before viewing list to
save space/time
- What commands are used to generate/get the listing ?
Thanks Glenn

How can I allow 2 laptops to share information between each other. The
laptops are running opensuse 12.3 64 bit.
They are both connected ta a adsl router/modem and the DHCP Server Status

- How can I allow setup the 2 laptops to get a dynamic DHCP ip address

Is there any existing documentation on this subject ?

I have a newly installed 12.3 system. Yesterday I attached a disk-array
to it, with a number of existing logical volumes. On boot-up, they
weren't activated, apparently due to /etc/init.d/boot/lvm not being
called.
I ran 'insserv boot.lvm' which solved the problem, but I am wondering
how that would/should normally be done?
Also a little odd - I have a slightly older system which also uses LVM.
Here I have presumably enabled boot.lvm a while ago, but:
# find /etc/init.d -iname \*lvm\*
/etc/init.d/boot.d/K05boot.lvm
/etc/init.d/boot.d/S09boot.lvm
/etc/init.d/boot.lvm
On my new system:
# find /etc/init.d -iname \*lvm\*
/etc/init.d/boot.d/K50boot.lvm
/etc/init.d/boot.d/S50boot.lvm
/etc/init.d/boot.lvm
In fact, everything in boot.d has priority 50 - why is that??

Is anyone running 12.3+systemd on HP proliant? I've installed the PSP,
but I can't start the SNMP agents. I get weird messages:

Going through the scripts, it looks like
"redirecting to systemctl start" is caused by:
systemctl start hp-snmp-agents
this calls
/opt/hp/hp-snmp-agents/server/etc/cmad :

if [ $RETVAL -eq 0 ]; then

if [ -z "$pidlist" ]; then

Why is systemd intercepting this?

Back in the spring I reported a problem where an application would
periodically not get to run when it was generating lots of data headed to an
XFS file system. The good folk on this list helped me implement a work around
that saved the day. (Gotta love this list!) I saw a reference in the oS 13.1
release info to a kernel improvement that sounds like it is addressing my very
problem.
http://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=7…
I hope I get a chance to test this to see if it effects my problem.
I just posted this FYI.
