[opensuse] DCF77, USB <-> parallel adapter, any solution?

I was using a DCF77 Dongle on the parallel port on my older machine and got the DCF77 time information in Europe. This worked quite fine most of the time. My new machine has no parallel port. I tried several USB <-> Parallel adapters (like the DeLock USB910) but they all failed. Some people posted on the net that these are only printer adapters. Are there any USB <-> Parallel adapters that work with dongles, non printer devices like the Conrad DCF77 ( see http://man.sourcentral.org/SUSE101/4+pcfclock , picture: http://www.linum.com/typo3temp/GB/499b753382.jpg?file=uploads%2Fpics%2Ffunk… ) Any other solutions that have DCF77 or GPS time receiving functionality even if the machine is turned off? [opensuse] multi-boot with XP, Win7, SuSE 12.1 and dealing with EFI

Up until this point, I know how to install SuSE along with older versions of Windows such as NT4 or XP. Now I am trying to setup a new HP PC with XP, Win7 and SuSE 12.1. When I get to the SuSE part, I am running into trouble with the partition setup. I started out with using gparted to create a primary partion for Win7, XP and a small boot partition for SuSE. For the remainder of the drive I created an extended partition where I have the linux swap and xfs partition for SuSE to use as / Now suddenly I am thrown into a new world that I know very little about. The SuSE install squawked about an efi problem with the boot partition I made (it said it had to be a FAT). I changed it to FAT and now I get a squawk about a GPT label. I have been trying to do some reading on this but am having trouble getting the big picture of efi and gpt and what they mean to my situation. I think that if I understood it well enough, I could probably figure out what to do myself. Is there anyone who understand this well enough to help me understand this? Hi, if I run: zypper update Loading repository data... Reading installed packages... The following package updates will NOT be installed: bind bind-chrootenv bind-libs bind-utils bootsplash-branding-openSUSE <snip> The following packages are going to be upgraded: akonadi akregator amarok <snip> I have e.g. bind installed. Why does the update state that it will NOT be installed? It implies that it will be removed. Confused. [opensuse] routing problems two network card with 2 different networks.

Hi, CenturyLink has forced me to get a fiber connect using their DSL because my 9+ yr old one is contantly crashing an has anywhere from 20-90% packect loss. So I am trying to get both to work at the same time. I have been forced to put the DSL Modem a C1000A into bridged mode. Could not get the yast2 dsl to work. So I configured pppoe to work. When I do a pppoe-start and then add the estra routes with the route command I finally get to the netstat -nr for the 168.103.176.54 right below. This allows 168.103.176.54 to go out to the internet anywhere. But incoming stops at 168.103.176.54, But 168.103.176.54 is able to ping and connect and do anything from any in the IP blocks below. [opensuse] Router firewall vs openSUSE firewall

Hi, My system is openSUSE 12.1 running KDE 4.9 behind a NAT router (Draytek 2800v) which incorporates its own configurable firewall. I'm also running a minidlna server linked through the router to my Blueray player. When I disable the openSUSE firewall, I can browse the directories on my computer from the TV and view/play media files. If I enable the openSUSE firewall, the server is not seen. Is it safe to rely on the router firewall alone, combined with NAT, always accepting that safety is a relative term? Conversely, has anyone successfully set up minidlna through the openSUSE firewall, and if so, what settings did you use? It seems as if it is something to do with a difference between linux and windows provided information to the router. Technical support here isn't any help, they aren't knowledgeable about linux nor their router system. I spent about two hours with them the last time I stayed in this hotel trying to figure out what was the problem. We run the cheap Cisco/Linksys routers with the DDWRT software. It's a bit better than the standard Linksys software. We turn off broadcast for wireless. That way the system is not visible to a casual scan.
