[opensuse] What file indexers &c to kill, remove on 12.1?

Turns out I must upgrade to 12,1 after all. I want to avoid killing a 3rd disk, though, so I won't use encrypted swap oR filesystems. I am also not installing disk indexers and want to ensure that any that get installed are killed off with great prejudice, as well as any other such resource hogs. I found packagekit installed despite being tagged "taboo" and uninstalled it. I see it's a "large" python set of apps. a major resource hog. "Killer apps" in python really can kill. Hi everyone, I have a micro-sd card that I accidentally deleted an important file off of. I don't know the file name because it was the contact list that I was trying to move from my old phone to my new phone, and I never originally intended to use the file system, but I was just going to transfer the contacts using the phone utilities. I am hoping that there are some command line tools I can use to scan the sd card and find the missing file. I had not made any backups :( bad, bad me The card is /dev/sdc1. It seems that Open SuSE suffers from this bug as well: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bash/+bug/120687 Somewhere along the line, due to people paying attention to POSIX, they though they could change collation orders for any locality outside of the 'C' locality to anything they wanted. What they didn't realize is that Unicode also specifies a correlation order that is roughly (maybe exactly in the C range), equivalent to the C range. While localized character sets iso-8859-xx... and others might have different collating orders, for those who have UTF-8 as the default encoding, or more so, set encodings to lang_CO.UTF-8, the character set collation order should take precedence -- in __AT LEAST__, character ranges as used in Regex's (as those are 'pure characters and no words are involved -- then only the ordering of the character set should be used). Maybe this needs to be fixed in the gnu sorting functions? [opensuse] How to install Windows XP alongside openSUSE?

The latest nVidia driver (from the nVidia site itself) is 295.53 and it does not require a patch to install. FYI. [opensuse] Mounting fuse filesystems from dolphin

I am running OpenSuse 12.1 I have a webdav partition, with a mount point configured in /etc/fstab, mounted via fuse/wdfs: wdfs#https://webdav.yandex.ru/ /mnt/yandex fuse users,noauto,username=myusername,password=secret 0 0 It is listed as "noauto" because my laptop is often not online, and so I don't want it mounting. Everything works just fine from the command line: I can mount with "mount /mnt/yandex" and unmount with "fusermount -u /mnt/yandex" However, the entry for this mount does not show up in the "places" list in Dolphin, and I cannot figure out any way to add it there. I can add the /mnt/yandex folder to "places", but it does not give me an option to mount it. I also tried device notifier, with the option to show all devices, but it does not show up as a device, either, even though other fstab entries (like Windows partitions) do. Is it possible to mount a fuse partition either from Dolphin or from device notifier? I'd like to make this accessible to a couple of non-technical users who know how to use Dolphin, but aren't comfortable with CLI. I know about the "network/add network folder" option in KDE, but I'd like the mount to be accessible to non-kde applications, and so mounting throuhgh fstab + some gui command is what I need. [opensuse] Problem upgrade OpenSuSE 11.3 to 12.1

Hello all, I have a problem with an upgrade, from OpenSuSE 11.3 to 12.1. On the old version of the distro, the hard disk devices are listed as /dev/cciss/etc., into the new release are listed as /dev/sd[x]. The problem is the upgrade don't see the older partition (Install from DVD), and don't see any SuSE to Upgrade. What can be the right manner to solve this situation, and upgrade to OpenSuSE 12.1 without re-installing all?
