[opensuse] Associating an image with a Desktop icon

I have a Java applications which I use frequently, and for which I have placed hard links on the Desktop, to make them easier to start. The icons are generic, and therefore confusin, and I would like to replace them a recognizable images. I have such images in png and other formats, but it is not clear to me how to assign them to the applications. [opensuse] suse 11.4 and kde3 - part 2

my own little project with 11.4 and kde3 is still alive and well. on the desktop, i finally got virtual box to run, after i downloaded a bunch more of kde3 shtuff from the "official" site. have not run a vm yet, but vbox seems to be very happy w. the way things lay. don't know which kde3 app did it, but i would be willing to list all the kde3 components installed. On the laptop, i tried oh about 4 diff. versions of 11.4, including a kde4, gnome and xfce graphics front end, alas, none of them could make my bc4312 dell wireless ( the machine is a dell vostro1710) do anything. and the /var/log messages kept saying the card just died!!!!. finally, with kde3 running, i deleted /var/lib/firmware/ b43 firmware, b43firmware-legacuy and also b43-wl something. then, i mounted my 11.1 /var/lib/firmware directory and copied the b43firmware and b43firmweare-legacy folders into their respective spot in my 11.4 system, rebooted and now wicd 1.7 connects to the home wireless immediately, that's something like 15 out of 15 tries, after reboots to windoze xp and suse 11.1 and back to 11.4 randomly interspersed within :) sooo, suse devs, please take another look at the bcm43/b43 drivers, sometim is amiss big time. and the "old" drivers just seem to work...( almost as well as either gubuntu or kubuntu, both of which were tried in the same partition.) d. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe(a)opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help(a)opensuse.org

[opensuse] Help with Kmai2 in 4.7

hi all I'm having a real disaster with kmail2. 1. I accidentally deleted my local folders in the kmail2 Accounts config and now kmail2 crashes with an error "Failed to retrieve akonadi resource" (or something like that). It does not give me a chance to re-add it. 2. Tried to modify an existing POP account (also in kmail Accounts config) but it does not allow me to edit the password for the login id to the POP server. [opensuse] Plasma-Desktop crashing

I recently got a new laptop (a ThinkPad X220 with Intel i915 video card) and am running into a problem where KDE plasma-desktop will crash periodically. The bottom bar disappears and the background goes black (there aren't windows open over it) and after a second or so it starts back up again and seems to work fine for a while until it happens again (maybe every 10 minutes. I have seen similar behavior with SuSE 11.1 (I think), but in that case my home partition was full - there is plenty of space now. I am running fully updated SuSE 11.4 KDE Base version 4.6.0-6.6.2-x86_64 from OpenSUSE-11.4-11.4-0 kdebase4-workspace is 4.6.0-10.15.1-x86_64 I have looked around on this, and can't seem to find anything, but I am not really sure what I am looking for. I have turned off all desktop effects. Logs can be found at the bottom of this message. [opensuse] configuring my monitor

Hello again, Just trying to get my new monitor set up. I have a samsung LED monitor, but the automatic installation just put in some kind of default setting. How do I adjust the driver settings and find my new monitor to configure it correctly?
