[opensuse] Basket .... not working - HELP!

OUCH Earlier this week I tried using LXDE and messed up the windows decorations .... go back and see that thread :-( Recovery involved zapping ~/.kde4 And being flustered and botherated I forget to back up my baskets OUCH. So, with it all working again, I decided to move the basket storage out of ~/.kde4 and into ~/Documents/Baskets :-) and restored from two weeks ago. Now when I restart basket I get the one basket called "General" and it has nothing in it. In ~/Documents/Baskets are all the things I think should be there. ~/.kde4/share/config/basketsrc correctly points to ~/Documents/Baskets If I try importing I get error messages saying all the dozens of baskets are already there. But they are not displaying. [opensuse] interest for scientific computing BoF for oSC?

I just want to quickly check whether there is a general interest for a get together at the oSC of people working with scientific computing (SC) software and openSUSE. A motivation behind this is to discuss how to improve opensuse as platform for scientific computing. I am in general very satisfied with my shortterm experience of openSUSE, including tumbleweed, but I after my recent switch to this distribution I discovered that quite some packages which are interested in my SC corner are either outdated or not available in the *official* repos. Some of these are: openmpi outdated (1.2.8) libatlas (none) mayavi and enthought related packages (none) python-scipy (none) paraview petsc,trilinos, armadillo (none) netgen, tetgen, triangle (none) bullet (none) cgal, gts (none) scientific python (none) suitesparse? Some of these are spread over different projects like Science and Education, which results in a significant overlap of packages with different version numbers, possible incompatibilities etc. So an idea might be to talk about how to improve the situation, software which might be interesting to package (maybe even trying to start a unifying SC project) or about what else comes into your mind! It's not appropriate for gaming, but for office work it's sufficient. I don't know if suspend works; my new Thinkpad T420s that has also this graphics chip hasn't arrived yet. Then I'll know. ;-) AFAIK, http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/XOrg/openSUSE_11.4/ has version 2.15.0 of the intel driver that's more current than the one from 11.4+updates (2.14.0). Maybe that helps with your problems. All else derives from this. No. The TIMEZONE value is only documentation by openSUSE what time zone was set up during installation. During actual operation, /etc/localtime is used. More relevant, during boot & shutdown, *ONLY* /etc/localtime is used, since no TZ environment variable exists then. You can verify my statement by calling strace hwclock -r >hwclock.log 2>&1 and examining the log file. There you will see that /etc/localtime is opened for reading. That's why I posted the 5 action steps which include the test if /etc/localtime has the correct value. [opensuse] Printer USB connection problem

Since some days my serial port has a problem and I am not able to use my local printer. I got aUSB printer adapter cable and expected that that would solve my problem. I started Yast and expected to find the USB connected printer. No printer detected, even with the printer wizzard under the USB connection. Lsusb shows : "Bus 002 Device 004: ID 4348:5584 WinChipHead CH34x printer adapter cable". Is there some trick? Hello SuSE people, Running 11.4 with kernel 2.6.37.6-0.5-desktop I need the kernel-source for that kernel. Doesn;t seem to be one. I went to the opensuse software site and did a search for it. The closest kernel-source I could find is 2.6.37.6-43.1.noarch Would that work? [opensuse] Lost support for USB-readers

As it is (also) a SuSE-issue, posting here might be more appropiate... Hi all, I had to re-install one of my boxes, but it seems I lost support for USB-readers. If I restart pcscd, I got in syslog: "Disabling USB support for pcscd" I went googling but all I found (in Ludovic's blog) that disabling it resulted in better performance for embedded devices. Other references were about an incorrectly installed openct-software, or a outdated version. So after i had re-installed openSuSE (11.4), i installed pcsc-lite-1.7.4-57.1 (from the add-on repo) and its libs, but same results. Anyone around here, that can tell me how to get the old behaviour (supporting usb-readers) back again? =================================================================== >From the man page: "USB SMART CARD READER DRIVERS: USB smart card reader drivers are located in /usr/lib64/readers directory as a bundle. You shall not add a USB driver in /etc/reader.conf file." But no clue about the so-called "bundle" that should reside in either /usr/lib/readers or /usr/lib64/reader And after install libmusclecard-utils (that apperently holds BundleTool). i started it up, but the tools finished directly saying "no drivers exists - exiting" Its manpage says that BundleTool lets you _select_ one from several bundles, but still no clue how te get hold of one. [opensuse] SUDO always requires password 11.4

I have a directory /local/usr/bin/sudo, which I use to hold scripts that would normally require root privileges, but I want to start as a user, usually via the menu. I have used visudo to edit the sudo file in the same way as an 11.0 system, where this works as expected. However, I can't seem to get this to work without being asked for the root password. I have added "jknott ALL = NOPASSWD: /usr/local/bin/sudo/*", which is supposed to enable running items in that directory without requiring a root password. Afterwards call update-alternatives --config java and select the 32bit Sun Java (that's the one in /usr/lib and not in /usr/lib64). I have also zypper-locked "java-*-openjdk-devel", though I don't remember why; maybe some left-over from a previous installation. It works very good, very few problems up to now. A few 32bit package versions of Java-related libraries are missing; we recognized libtcnative (for Tomcat) and libsvnjavahl (for Subversion). If you really need them, you have to compile them yourself, or learn OBS usage, or learn to use /usr/lib/mkbaselibs. FWIW, we don't use Eclipse from OBS (wouldn't even know if it's there at all); but install one from Eclipse.org in /opt. We can't rely on any distribution here, since we cannot use Helios and need to stay on Galileo, where JSF 1.2+Facelets still works. If you want to do so, installation notes tell me that we needed to install the additional packages mozilla-xulrunner20.i586 mozilla-xulrunner20-gnome.i586 I don't remember why, maybe to make Eclipse help working. The more spurious your connection becomes, and especially the more bad time source data quality is, the more problematic is its behavious -- and analysing "why for heaven's sake" the time got wrong this time is a herculean task that I wouldn't want to do for an embedded system that is literally off-roads. In the case of Roger, there is the additional problem that ntpd uses inherently a polling model for its time sources, with staggering polling intervals that shall spare the time servers from overload. AFAIU, Roger needs the complete opposite, a triggering model that takes into account each available PPS signal. Since I don't know chrony, I don't know if it delivers that -- but if it does so, if it is robust, and if the code looks good, I would go with chrony in the use case that Roger describes. [opensuse] Software Management closes after install - openSUSE 11.4 - KDE

In 11.0, when a package was installed via Software Management, it remained open prompting for another package to open. However, with 11.4, Software Management closes immediately, requiring it to be restarted, scanning and all, before another package can be installed. This is an irritating waste of time, when installing multiple packages. I am running openSuSE 11.4 on an x64 machine, and when it was installed, it installed the x64 version of the openJDK 1.6 Java by default. But when I tried to install Eclipse and the Apache-James server source for debugging purposes, I found that I could not run Eclipse using the x64 openJDK. SO I uninstalled it and installed the i586 (32 bit version) of Java 1.6 from Sun. That resulted in a number of broken links in places like /etc/alternatives, /usr/lib/jvm.... Also the java files and links were not removed from /usr/lib64/jvm resulting in java environment variables such as JAVA_HOME etc being incorrectly set to point to x64 java packages (because of the mere existence of these files and links remaining in the lib64 directory). In other words, this resulted in a real mess and it has taken me quite a bit of time and effort to track down and fix. (which scares me because if an update for Java comes along, what is going to happen to all my changes...) My question is this, is running (or downgrading to) a 32 bit version of Java on a 64 bit machine not supported in openSuSE? Should I be complaining about it here (perhaps submit a bug report) or should I go to Eclipse and complain about not being able to run Eclipse under an x64 bit architecture? (Don't ask me what all broke, I spent a number of hours tracking things down and have no idea what all the changes I made were... and a few things are not well documented either so I had to make a few guesses...) [opensuse] Lost title bar

In experimenting with lightweight desktops, LXDE and XFCE4, I have managed to mess up my basic windows settings for everything including KDE4. In particular I've lost the title bars and with the ability to drag windows, resize them and so on. I have also messed up a lot of the basic desktop. I thought this was another one of those compiz problems, the one where you wipe compizrc and restart, but it seems not. Did I do something wrong or openSUSE? How can I fix this by not installing packages from other versions (11.2 or 11.3 eg)? In my opinion it is strange already that after a fresh DVD install a simple DSL connection can not be configured. This worked in every suse version I tried so far. [opensuse] 11.4, cups and linux to linux printer sharing

On my main box, I always try to keep up with the versions. However, this time, after upgrading to 11.4, my cups, Linux to Linux, printer sharing broke. Applied the same parms and setting as 11.3 - firewall, etc. On my wife's box, the printers can be seen but there is some sort of error about not being able to get to the printer queue. Sadly, so far, in the end, had to roll back to 11.3, for now. Will testing this in VirtualBox work ? openSUSE 11.4 / kernel 2.6.37.6-0.5-desktop / Gnome 2.32.1 I have been using SDHC flash cards for data backups, reformatting them as ext4 with LUX encryption. This has worked very nicely with a mixture of cards from various manufacturers, but now I've come across a problem one. The card is a SanDisk 16gb SDHC 'standard version' (their words) that refuses to format as anything other than FAT. It seemed to format OK, but when mounting it fails (with the all too familiar log message of 'JBD: no valid journal superblock found' and 'EXT4-fs (dm-1): error loading journal'). I messed around with it for a while, using both the Yast2 formatter utility (from 11.4) and the Gnome gui utility (Disk Utility 2.32.0), but no joy. Hi, I did a zypper dup on my computer the other day and as best I can remember the following were updated: kernel-default kernel-default-devel kernel-devel kernel-source kernel-kmp kernel-firmware Now, the cooling fan on my laptop doesn't work at any temperature. I had been running the latest kernel-3.0 rc from kernel head, now I am back to a 2.6.37 kernel after the update. I have looked in the Kernel:Head repository and don't find the previous release candidate kernel rpms available anymore, it seems they have been erased. I have two machines, both v11.4, one of them newly installed, both with Firefox 4.0b12. YaST Software Manager says that FF v5.0 is available. Trying to download the newer release causes the Software Manager window to collapse at once, leaving no remark about why it is doing this. Downloading Thunderbird, on the other hand, goes without a hitch. 32b OpenSuSE 11.3, Gnome 2.30 When Gnome is started, it places all previously open windows in the correctly remembered positions on each desktop and just before it's finished starting up, *ALL* the windows fall into the northwest corner of desktop 1. Even if this is acceptable, default behaviour, it is unwanted, undesirable. Is there a way to persuade Gnome to keep all windows where they were placed and not drop them all in the corner? I don't see any config setting that would work, Anyone have a magic spell, curse or threat that does? Because my venerable Pentium 4 motherboard died yesterday, I have a new MB (i5 CPU on an Intel HD67BL board) and have installed 64bit v11.4 on it. I am non-plussed by some of the behaviors I observe. I hope someone can help me understand them. 1) But immediately upon booting the installation DVD yesterday, and again when I started up the installed system todday, I was asked to choose a display mode. I was offered a small group of options to pick be entering the number. The one I wanted was listed as: f 35A 1600x1200x32...(I would have chosen 60Hz if it were offered) I tried enterring "f", "35A", and "f 35A", and was rewarded each time with an error message telling me that the entry was not a valid mode. Permitting the system to make up its own mind, the boot proceeded, and I went to Systems Settings to see what it had chosen. It is 1024x768 at 60Hz (no better resolution is offered). Even the ancient Pentium 5 was able to give me the higher resolution, and at the 60Hz refress rate. My conclusion is that there is an setting I must change, but I see nothing suggestive in the BIOS, so I may be overlooking something. Hello We have always used SCSI disks in our data collection systems. The data collection can be quite a bit at a time. 1 MB per second is not unusual. And this is sustained for, perhaps, hours at a time. We originally chose SCSI when the option was IDE. It was a no-brainer. Over time, SATA disks have made great progress. I am guessing there is some interaction between the disk, the controller, and the Linux device driver in terms of features available. Stan, on your problem #1: what video card are you using? I have had this behaviour on machines where the kernel does not recognise the video card (e.g. Nvidia) correctly and then switches to the vesa/fb driver, offering nothing better than 1024*768. Installing the proper video driver would fix that issue. Mode f 35A sounds weird. The VESA mode for 1600/1200/32 is 322, which is equivalent to Linux's video mode number 834. Have to tried passing the command "vga=834" to the kernel command line upon boot? Unfortunately this may not work even if the kernel does control your video card correctly as this mode is not strictly standardised, and it will not work (i.e. ignored) if the kernel does not recognise your card. Anyway, I would give it a try, and check the kernel's logging output. Yesterday I discovered that I am unable to operate the Java applet on my website; trying to find why this is so, I found that about:plugins displays no Java plugins. This is a 64bit system, so the plugin, before it vanished quietly, was icedtea. openSuSE is v11.3. A search for "icedtea" in YaST shows me that icedtea-web v1.1-0.2.1 is installed. Not installed is the file java-1_6_0-openjdk-plugin v1.6.0.0_b20.1.9.7-1.2.1. I guessed that I need to icedtea-web with the java plugin, but was told that I would have to remove icedtea-web. I see on the web that the icedtea-web package is said to already contain the java plugin, so now I am confused. [opensuse] "Samsung_Laptop" module not working on Samsung X360 machine‏‏‏

Hello, as many recent Samsung Laptop models my box (X360 subnotebook featuring C2D SU9300 and Intel X4500 graphics) does not support setting the brightness of the backlight via ACPI; rather it requires a Samsung-specific "SABI" driver. Supposedly this is provided for the X360 by SAMSUNG_LAPTOP as of kernel 2.6.39. The driver should make the function keys of the machine work under Linux (especially the brightness and WLAN keys). Some Fn-keys work prior to 2.6.39, such as the volume and sleep keys. Unfortunately, using an opensuse 11.4/kde fresh install and upgrading to 2.6.39.3-1-desktop via tumbleweed, I get very erroneous behaviour once the above module is loaded, as follows: - pressing the "brightness-up" key does nothing - pressing the "brightness-down" key once switches the display to maximum brightness, after which no other brightness changes occur when pressing the "down"-key - every time one presses the "brightness-down" key, the display flickers briefly, and X takes about 40% CPU for a minute or so, and then reverts to its usual <10% value - unloading the module will immediately reduce X's CPU load to normal Pressing the brightness keys with the module loaded does not bring up KDE's brightness applet; pressing the keys without the module does bring up the applet, which then shows the brightness going up and down but the actual brightness of the screen remains unaffected. When the module is loaded, the system log shows that a X360 laptop is correctly discovered. Other than this, nothing is in the log, and nothing is echoed to the console or the system log when modprobing the module. The files in sysfs appear to be correctly created; however, there is also a "acpi-backlight" class in addition to the "samsung" class that is managed by the module/driver. In either case, writing directly into the sysfs files has no effect whatsoever. For completeness sake: the WLAN key also does not work regardless of loading or unloading the module. I did quite some googling about the issue but to no avail. Am I the only one having this problem? Sorry for the long mail, but I hope I provided a complete and useful description of the issue; will happily provide more info but if things get complicated I will need step-by-step instructions. I get a fair number of notifications in my system through the local message service (what used to be kwrited). In KDE they by default go to the notifications popups. Unfortunately, if the message is long enough, the popup cuts it off and I cannot read it. For a lot of those messages, I want them to appear somewhere so that I want to read it, but I don't want them to interrupt (i.e., don't want to have to click buttons when they show up). My solution to that in OpenSuse 11.3 was on notification to run a command kdialog --passivepopup %s 300 This displayed messages in popup windows somewhere on screen, and that was exactly what I needed. Now I upgraded to OpenSuse 11.4, and got an unpleasant surprise: "kdialog --passivepopup" now shows up as a message in system notifications, and I cannot see its complete text. I've got a brand new 11.4+updates install on a Lenovo Thinkpad that previously ran openSUSE 11.2. In the new installation, Firefox will frequently hang up the entire system for minutes at a time. All I need to do is go visit e.g. http://www.20min.ch/ and the machine will hang up. The mouse is locked, the clock stops, Ctrl-Alt-Backspace is ignored, Ctrl-Alt-F1 ditto. Hello, I want to install Suse 11.4 on a Laptop (HP-G62) with Windows 7 on it (no previous Linux). I created three partitions for / (ext4, 20GB), /home (ext4, 100GB) and swap (4GB). Now at the end of the installation process, either when installing grub into MBR or the other possibility (forget what it was called, but there are two possibilities), I get the following error message: ------------- GNU GRUB version 0.97 (640K lower / 3072 upper memory) [ ... ] grub> setup --stage2=/boot/grub/stage2 --force-lba (hd0) (hd0,4) Error 22: No such partition grub> quit ------------- I didn't find something relevant in the Internet on that. The source addressbook is in a large Vcard v3.0 file. I have installed the MoreVunctions addon in Thunderbird. Using the Import function, I inform it that this is a .vcf file and let 'er rip. The error message that appears immediately says: "An error occurred importing addressees from vCard file (.vcf)", with no diagnostic information. The resulting imported address book consistes of only part of the first card in the source file: only the line "Email: <correct address>"; the source card includes the name of the contact, but that is absent in the target. When I delete the first entry in the source and try to import the resulting file, the same error message appears, but nothing at all makes it to the target. I do not see anything obvious wrong with these entries. New laptop, new 11.4 installation (dual boot with Windows 7) with switchable graphics: on the motherboard, IntelVGA compatible controller (2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller). This is what is in use with no problem since the installation. There is also nVidia GeForce GT 555M card. The hardware switch works in Windows, but has no effect in linux. I think my son (whose computer it is) will use the nVidia most of the time, but might like to know how to switch. In any case, I would appreciate any help in knowing how to use the nVidia in place of the motherboard graphics. Thanks! The system is desktop v11.3, KDE v4.4 Because of the behavior, I do not see how I could approach diagnosis, even if I had a clue what to do. Sometime, wiggling the mouse cursor a bit makes the mouse responsive for a few seconds. When that doesn't work, sometimes letting it sit for a half hour or so frees it. For some reason I cannot connect to my personal mail server via my android phone (Atrix). however, if I use K9, I don't seem to have a problem. Settings are the same. Does any one know if there is a reason for this? Latest available (7 months old) proprietary Canon PPD my printer requires, and preceeding versions, work in F14 and oS 11.3, but not in F15 or oS 11.4, apparently due to something changed in CUPS. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=683476 I don't "upgrade" to odd numbered releases, and even if this was not the case, I wouldn't "upgrade" to 11.3 anyway due to its immature KMS system and other flaws encountered running it on test systems. 11.2, notwithstanding Tumbleweed, currently installed, is out of support. Sound worked fine in 11.0, but not in 11.2, so I'm not keen on keeping 11.2 any longer than I must. I'd like to move to 11.4 in hopes of restoring sound as soon as the https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=675793 fix is actually available. So, I see three options for moving to 11.4: 1-install 11.3, lock CUPS packages, upgrade to 11.4, or 2-install 11.3's CUPS packages in 11.2, lock them, upgrade to 11.4, or 3-install 11.4, excluding CUPS and its deps, install CUPS packages from 11.3 repos, or 4-upgrade 11.2 to 11.3, lock CUPS, upgrade to 11.4 Do any seem viable? If all, which stands best chance of success? I really don't like the idea of the upgrade route, for fear of sound not getting fixed. Changing printers is not an option. It seems that there are a few stallwarts out there, yours truly one of us, who still use suse 11.3, 11.2, 11.1 and even 10.x as the main os. Most of these os's are out of maintenance, so a kernel upgrade would have to be manual. Hello: Adobe reader pretty frequently litters my screen with non-removable and unmovable image parts. These image parts are either small previews of opened pdf documents or titles/file names of opened pdfs'. They only disappear when I close adobe reader. Hi all, I seem to have some problems with openSUSE 11.4 and graphics cards. Mine are relatively old nVidia (GeForce GT 220) and ATI's (Radeon X550/ RV370/SapphireX550 Silent). The nVidia card is suspect, I think an onboard memory problem. It freezes up irregularly. I want to replace it. With "ATI Proprietary Linux Driver-8.593" I get: ./ati-driver-installer-9-3-x86.x86_64.run Created directory fglrx-install.YylA7t Verifying archive integrity... All good. ...... ..... which: "no XFree86 in <path>, ... Well, I'm fed up with these cards. I already know how PXE works, etc. That's not an issue. The issue is I want to network boot openSUSE. Not an installer. I've read all the KIWI-LTSP stuff on the wiki but there aren't clear instructions and seems outdated (the documentation at least). All I was able to determine is in SUSE Studio website PXE images are disabled, but "SUSE Studio Onsite" is a paid (how many thousands? 50 thousand?) system that can build PXE booting images. That's basically all I need, build an image with a GUI and boot it over PXE. Even if I could boot the LiveCD over PXE, that would be fine. Is there a way to convert some image I build in SUSE studio to PXE image? What is even the difference? Just the proper support in initrd? Anyone have working recent instructions on how to accomplish this? [opensuse] Lost sound (KDE4)

I ran an upgrade of my sons desktop machine over the weekend, and it has now lost sound completely. Via YaST, I've deleted and reconfigured the soundcard, but this had no (apparent) effect. The card is currently detected as "d330 uT' with driver snd-intel8x0 - I'm afraid I don't know if that was also the previous config. AFAIR, the kmix application used to show several miscellaneous sliders, but they seem to have gone too. (replaced by 3-4 tabs with streams). Any suggestions on how to get sound back? All, Whether intended or not, one area where I have noticed great progress in 11.4 is package currency. For the past decade, after the initial release, SuSE/openSUSE always languished several versions behind other distros with regard to package versions available as either updates or through build service. Arch, the first rolling release I tried, absolutely blew me away with current packages where new packages were often available before the upstream public release of a version bump. Tumbleweed appears to have forced a similar currency in openSUSE which is a great benefit to the community. Now whether updating through zypper on openSUSE or pacman on Arch, a majority of the updates are to the upstream version. Excellent job! -- David C. Is it possible to change the taskbar from translucent to opaque? Translucent, with those washed out icons looks terrible. Stronger colours for those icons would also be nice. Also, what happened to the < & > buttons at the end of the task bar that are used to collapse it when desired. I recently installed 11.4 on a ThinkPad T43. One thing I find very annoying is that I cannot save the WiFi password, without using KWallet. This means I have to give the KWallet password, whenever I connect via WiFi. Could not found it at the official fan shop and I was mainly interested in a purely opensuse branded version. I remember I saw a picture once from some opensuse conference showing a cute copy. This, although a beta, is the current release of "Lightening", and is described by Mozilla as "stable". In the Preferences screen, I have succeeded in defining which days are workdays, and also set a new category of Task. I've defined the details of a new task, and clicked on the button "Save and Close". The window does close, but the new task does not appear anywhere, so it isn't saved. The Preferences offer the choice of long or short date format; I chose the long, but today is 7/3/2011. For everything else on the system, it is 3/7/2011, so this is confusing. Everything else on the system also knows about 24-hour time formats; Lightening knows about them only when it comes to choosing times, but the result of choosing 1640 becomes 4:40pm. The Preferences window does know <dd mm yyyy>, and never mentions time formats, implying that Lightening will use the system default, which it doesn't. I don't think it is surprising for a beta to be in this condition. The surprise is the hubris of grownups to argue that it is stable. There is a class of HTML-containing incoming messages that I need to save as HTML. I access these later with Firefox. Now I am using the Thunderbird mail client. In Kmail, I could use the message-structure feature to save the HTML version of such messages. Thunderbird seems to lack the ability to display in a format called EML. I do not see a way to get the mailer to display or save the HTML part of a message, and hope that I am overlooking something. [opensuse] Two versions of openSUSE, but the second won't boot up...

Hi all, I got a new 40 GB hdd the other day so that I could install openSUSE 10.3 on it to use as my 'game' drive (I have a Crossover thing that just doesn't work well with 11.3, unfortunately) What I did, was I unplugged the 11.3 hdd from the MOBO, installed the new hdd, plugged it in *on the SATA 3 plug (there's 4, 11.3 is on 1, the CD/DVD writer is on 2 and now 10.3 on 3) and turned the system on and installed 10.3 on it. Then, I plugged my 11.3 back in and started up the system and got into 11.3 to put the new hdd in my GRUB. I've chosen almost all the choices that GRUB had (using YaST) to put the new hdd/10.3 in the bootup selection menu (where I now have the penguins permanently walking back and forth, on purpose btw). Nothing I've chosen works. When I get to the menu where I can select what to do (11.3, 10.3, 11.3 failsafe, floppy), if I choose 10.3 it starts the GRUB for it and then brings me right back to the choice menu again. Is there something I'm missing? Should I install 10.3 again but leave my 11.3 plugged in and start up with the 10.3 in the cd/dvd writer and try it that way and hope that install doesn't screw up enough that I can no longer get in 11.3?
