[opensuse] samba error 11.4

I can't start samba: write_browse_list: Can't open file /var/lib/samba/browse.dat.. Error was Permission denied That file doesn't exist. I tried creating it but and changing it's permissions. My /etc/smb.conf is simply: [global] workgroup = MSHOME security = share [PUBLIC] path = /home/lynn/Public guest ok = yes read only = no Any ideas anyone? 11.4 fresh install. [opensuse] Thinkpad x200 suspend to ram issues in 11.4

I'm hoping this is the appropriate list, if not, flame away :0 Anywhoo, I've consulted this page thoroughly: <http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Suspend_to_RAM> If I execute `s2ram -f` I can suspend just fine and resume *twice*, the third time seems to always fail to suspend properly. X11 seems to lock up and I cannot switch to a virtual terminal either. It seems fairly reproducible on the third time as well. What can I do to track down what's causing the failure to suspend? I don't want to pull the ripchord and go back to 11.3 or prematurely jump to Tumbleweed (not quite ready for it yet), so what are my options here? Cheers - R. I have confirmed that the fonts used are the same in the font listbox, so if something isn't being seen and is being substituted - it is hidden from the user. I think this is just a default number problem in either kerning, leading or spacing. Something is different between Libre and OO and it is a bug somewhere that will hit every user that relies on being able to re-create documents that were created and saved in OO... I know there are some strange numbers in the code. (like the 0.49" tab setting). There is probably another similar number at the bottom of this spacing issue where the lsb was accidentally delete of something weird like that. -- David C. [opensuse] Help with routing on VPN

Hi gang, I have been trying to set to set up openvpn, but I am running into an issue, when I connect, I don't get route for my home network. So I can't access anything. This is the following error I am getting. Any clue why it not working, I can post my server config if needed. [opensuse] Considering 11.4 again but first ..........

I update to 11.4 back in march but had to take all my systems back to 11.3, 11.4 is not usable, for me, due to 2 key problems I ran into. First one is in the following bug posts https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=665720 and https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=680297. There appears to be no fix yet, but curious if anyone knows, how stable the work around using the RUN_PARALLEL="no" is. Second issue: amd cpu based desktop locking up at random with no error messages. The only symptom is there are a lot of [900.000017] [Hardware Error]: No human readable MCE decoding support on this cpu type errors in syslog and the numerical number is different each time. I used the nomce option which does stop the error messages, but the amd cpu based desktop is still unstable, with random lock ups. Thank you Felix and Malcolm. I got the right kernel rpm from that server and I extracted the rpm. Got all the files in the /boot, softlinks recreated properly, and booom WORKS. [opensuse] how to restore vmlinux and initrd

Hi, I have very bad problem here. I have opensuse 10.0 machine. After hw issue, the /boot partition got corrupted. I made an image of all the partitions to a new hdd. All of them pass fsck without any problems, and all the files are there. But /boot fails fsck, and after repair vmlinux is lost, initrd is lost etc. I have an image of the partition, so I can play with it as much as I can. [opensuse] System requirements for Open Suse 11.3

I want to buy a new computer for installing Open Suse 11.4. According to the manual, there are the following system requirements: "Pentium* III 500 MHz or higher processor (Pentium 4 2.4 GHz or higher or any AMD64 or Intel* EM64T processor recommended)" Since I am not very familiar with hardware, I have two questions: 1. Do the requirements cited above include Intel i3 and i5, or are these processors lower than Pentium* III? 2. Do the requirements cited above include AMD Phenom II X4 N950 Quad or is this Porcessor lower than than Pentium* III? X session ceased to start automatically without any obvious cause. [opensuse] Samba smbd error

Hi folks, On my fresh installed 11.4 I have a problem to start samba. On a reference partition which is near original I have the same problem as on my customized version. smbd will not start. Doing as root a smbd -i I get the following message: smbd -i Unable to setup corepath for smbd: Permission denied smbd version 3.5.7-1.17.1-2505-SUSE-SL11.4-x86_64 started. Copyright Andrew Tridgell and the Samba Team 1992-2010 Failed to open /etc/samba/secrets.tdb Failed to open /etc/samba/secrets.tdb ERROR: smbd can not open secrets.tdb What's wrong ?
