[opensuse] ethernet bridging questions/help

I have a new box which has two GB ethernet connections and would like to bridge them into one. Is this inadvisable? If so, why? I did: yast --> network settings --> added bridge 0 dynamic address set bridged devices eth0 eth1 allowed yast to set eth# to 0.0.0.0 finished I have no outside access I have no local access no network remove br0 and set eth[0/1] to dynamic address and restart network and have access but no bridge. Actually, on Brazil sometimes it really becomes a dumb choice. Workstations or stronger machines per se, use 64 bits always, no brain. Personal daily use, also 64 bits *usually*. Specific uses, like some banking online systems (yes, believe it or not, some major bnk ones work on 32 bits but not on 64 bits, despite a perfect working 64 bits java environment for everything else, both online and offline!) or as sometime ago some webcams or printers (needed pipslite daemon, which is a bitch to compile!) sold here, sorry, go for 32 bits. PAE kernel usually, so that extra memory is accessible. Not sure how is the 11.4 doing with those issues. [opensuse] gnome workspace switcher

I installed openSUSE 11.4 last week, starting from scratch. So far, the system was running without error or problems. Today I rebooted and noticed the workspace switcher is not working beyond the one active window. I do not see my "blank" workspaces on the task bar. When I right click on a running application, I used to see "move to workspace on the right" plus other options related to workspaces. Now, those options are gone and I get the standard minimize, resize... If I right-click on the single workspace in the task bar, I can change my Workspace Switcher preferences (so it must be running), and increase the number of workspaces to 4, but nothing happens and the change isn't saved. If I right-click again, it is back to "Workspaces 1". Thank you for your help with this. [opensuse] data integrity with ZFS or alternatives

Hi folks, I am looking for a way to guarantee data integrity on my Linux box (11.4). BTRS does not seem to have anything for that. ZFS is only recently available natively (i.e. Without FUSE) on Linux. That port by KQStor is not built on opensuse. Has anyone tried to port it to opensuse? I am looking to protect against silent bit rot. I am looking for file or partition level protection. I know BTRS and ZFS are both not "mature" on Linux. Any alternatives othere than checksumming files individually? [opensuse] VirtualBox and Catch-22

In trying to install VirtualBox v4.0.4 (from the Oracle site) in my laptop (v11.4), I neglected to ascertain that <make> was installed, and of course it wasn't. This caused installation from the rpm to stop, leaving in its log that it couldn't find <make>. I cannot simply repeat the installation process because the system retorts that VB is already installed. I also cannot delete it and start again, because the system claims that it isn't installed, and therefore can't be removed. After finding out that sometimes the temperature of one of my hard disks is way to high I would like to include the temperatures automatically in my gkrellm monitoring. In Gkrellm there is an instruction for the MBmon Port. It says that the daemon command must be mbmon -r -P port where port should match the number entered in the gkrellm setup. I would like to read about mbmon but did not find anything useful.
