[opensuse] KDE3 on 11.3 ??

Hello SuSE people, Planning to install 11.3 soon. (upgrade from 11.2) I want to install KDE3 also. Sorry guys I just don't like KDE4. (sacrilegious I know) but what can I tell you. Tried it in 11.1 - blew it away. Tried it in 11.2, all the way up to 4.4. better, but still no cigar. Kept reverting to my comfortable and reliable11.0 with KDE3 Will try again in 11.3, hoping it will finally reach the maturity of KDE3, but, I still want my fallback to my comfortable and reliable KDE3. I've seen on the list that at least one of our members ( Dave Rankin) has installed KDE 3 on 11.3. Any tips on the procedure, sources, etc, on how I go about doing this? (Wiki?) (docs?) [opensuse] Problem with Rhythmbox

Hello, I'm using suse 11.3 KDE and I use rhythmbox for hearing songs. Today I updated my gstreamer my rhythmbox broke down. But I fixed it by removing "gstreamer python" related packages. I searched them via software management. Then Rhythmbox started but two important plugins are not active anymore. One is Context pane and other one is Im status. When I click on them, they're telling : Plugin error: Unable to activate *plugin name* It's also happening with cover art. -- I am me, I wanna be me. [opensuse] Installing KDE 4.5

Hello, I'm currently running Suse 11.3 KDE 4.4 but want to try out the 4.5 RC series. Can anybody tell me how to do it? And will that break my system? I don't have any graphics card so graphics driver won't be a issue for me I reckon. Looking forward to your answer. -- I am me, I wanna be me. [opensuse] slp service: ipv6 compatibility?

with the "slp" service, I was trying to limit it's interfaces to my private interfaces when I notice that it's not listening on any ipv6 addresses. Does slp not work with ipv6? [opensuse] 11.3: CUPS fails to recognize USB printers (problem and workaround)

Hi Folks, On a fresh install of 11.3 I noticed that the previously working (11.2) USB connected Xerox Phaser printer didn't show up in CUPS. The printer showed up in boot.msg and lsusb, but the add-printer screen in CUPS was clueless. It seems that this is a known issue with CUPS, where the printer identification info has a new-line character. HAL apparently shielded CUPS from this issue, but with HAL being deprecated in 11.3 the problem was triggered. Read about it here on an Ubuntu forum: <https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/468701> Where Till Kamppeter (#39) suggests: _+_+_+_+_+_+_+ Paul L, I see, HAL and its CUPS backend were working around the problem that your printer does not return a usable device ID. HAL is deprecated now and therefore the hal CUPS backend is no part of Ubuntu any more. If your Panasonic is your only USB printer you can use the device URI parallel:/dev/usb/lp0 as alternative in Karmic or Lucid. _+_+_+_+_+_+_+ This worked on my 11.3 system. Under the YAST2 "connection wizard" I entered "parallel:/dev/usb/lp0" in the field for IPP devices, which accepts a URI. [opensuse] SLES11SP1/D-Link DGE-530T Question

Anyone know if SLES11SP1 has working gigabit drivers for a D-Link DGE-530T? I installed a couple Via network cards and I'm not able to achieve gigabit speeds, even though I have a gigabit link. Even connecting them directly I can only get 10/100 speed. I tried compiling newer drivers for the Via cards but couldn't get them to compile. Looking at a couple D-Link DGE-530T cards on ebay would like to know they work before purchasing. Any help is appreciated.
