[opensuse] No GUI

Opensuse 11.3 x64 The GUI Login just cycles, but never logs in, or it will break out to a command prompt where I can log in. Startx fails and just says there is a GUI running (which) there isn't. I tried both an Nvidia (6200) and ATI (4350) doesn't seem to matter, although I haven't installed specific drivers yet. [opensuse] LAN no WAN

Opensuse 11.3 Samba Server. Network Device setup correctly firewall is off. NIC is eth0 set to external LAN working fine and Samba Shares. But, the server can't ping out, can't update, or open browser. [opensuse] rng-tools

I've had problems with rng-tools (random number generator) and finally removed it. Nothing appears to depend on it. I've installed 11.3 twice, and the tools were installed both times, not by me consciously. I've spoken to others on the forum and they tell me that it hadn't been installed on their systems, and I'm curious now, what might have lead to the tools being added? I added some of the dev tools, but others added these too. An rpm query doesn't show anything, and nothing else was removed when I removed the tools. Does anyone else have rng on their system? [opensuse] How to enable Tor in firewall for tor relaying?

I use OpenSuse 11.3 Tor works perfect as client. Tor works perfect for relaying if firewall is down. If it's on, Vidalia cannot find UPnP devices (It can, when firewall is disabled). I tried to go Yast - Firewall - Allowed Services - Advanced - TCP and entered 3 ports: 9001 9030 9050 Restarted firewall with no result. Maybe I'm wrong when trying to open a port in such a way? If I decide to use strigi to index, say, my documents or music files, how do I use the results? Is there a gui frontend? [opensuse] Boot time Segfault in libQtCore 4.6

I saw this go by this morning when booting my laptop. (The laptop is called "bigboy".) BOOT TIME, early on, well before anyone logs in and when I thought KDE starts. I don't understand this. I thought Qt was the infrastructure for KDE and other applications. Are there other non-application layers that use it? Why is 'kded4' running at this point? [opensuse] Wireless for pub

Hi all, OK, I opened my mouth and now I have to do it or shut up! :) I told my boss that I could set up a hot spot in his pub so that the customers could have a beer and connect to the net. Well, I've done it at home with a DSL modem, but it would be nice to find a "how to" about it. Just so that I don't miss anything and mess up his computer. Can someone give me an idea where to look for that? [opensuse] 11.3 and very slow nvidia performance

Hi, just upgraded my main workstation (nvidia GeForce 6200) to 11.3 and I'm pretty disappointed by the gfx performance (in 2D! mode). When switching virtual desktop I can actually see how the windows are rendered what I couldn't with 11.2 before with nvidia drivers. Hygiea:~ # rpm -qa | grep -i nvidia x11-video-nvidiaG02-256.35-15.1.x86_64 nvidia-gfxG02-kmp-desktop-256.35_k2.6.34.0_12-14.1.x86_64 I know this is proprietary stuff but still I was wondering if people have some hints to improve the performance. [opensuse] Akonadi problem

Hello SuSE people, Recently upgraded to KDE4.4 andI now receive the following message: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Nepomuk Indexing Agents Have Been Disabled The Nepomuk service is not available or fully operational and attempts to rectify this have failed. Therefore indexing of all data stored in the Akonadi PIM service has been disabled, which will severely limit the capabilities of any application using this data. The following problems were detected: Nepomuk is not running. --------------------------------------------------------------------- OK, remember stuff on this list talking about Akonadi/Nepomuk but can't recall or find what it is about. There was a solution. Just don't know what it was about. Please remind me.
