[opensuse] Klauncncher problem

Hello SuSE people, First off, running 11.2 with KDE4.4.2 As root, I am attempting to make a backup of this system using rsync. I have a USB drive with which I do this. I have four ext3 partitions on the device.The USB drive come up in device notifier and I can open it in /media where the partitions are seen. (mounted ??) I can see directories/folders of a previous backup from one of my other OS's but the folder will not open and I get the following message. "Could not start process. Cannot talk to Klauncher. The name org.kde.klauncher was not provided by any service files," I also cannot rename the directories or change any permissions, getting the same message, but I can delete things from the folder. [opensuse] zypper dup and now login issue, even newly created user

Hi I have been using from the OBS deve->languages->perl deve->languages->python yesterday I did a zypper dup and now any user gets when they try to login. This system uses pass phrase auth to login.... ssh suse104.zenez.com -X Last login: Tue Apr 6 17:46:24 2010 from suse103.zenez.com Can't locate local/lib.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/local/lib/perl5/5.10.1/x86_64-linux-ld /usr/local/lib/perl5/5.10.1 /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.10.1/x86_64-linux-ld /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.10.1 .). BEGIN failed--compilation aborted. Can't locate local/lib.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/local/lib/perl5/5.10.1/x86_64-linux-ld /usr/local/lib/perl5/5.10.1 /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.10.1/x86_64-linux-ld /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.10.1 .). BEGIN failed--compilation aborted I do have a non-thread base perl 10.1 in /usr/local/ for interchange. so there is a lib.pm their but it is now suse bases. I do not see how or understand why the login would shich I am unable to find any references to perl would suddenly try and use the non SUSE /usr/local/bin/per or what ever. I have been going crazy trying to fix it. Does anyone have any ideas? Used yast to give root privilege to a standard user. At first tried specific commands only, then gave the ALL commands privilege. no joy. Tried visudo from command line, same result. tried other editors, same result. Even when given root privilege for all commands, user "plain" can not run *any* root commands. the lines in the yast2 sudo window read: ALL ALL (ALL) No ALL root ALL (ALL) No ALL plain ALL (ALL) Yes ALL the sudoers file reads: ...................... <clip> # User privilege specification root ALL = (ALL) ALL plain ALL = (ALL) NOPASSWD: ALL ..<clip>............................................................ When I use Open Office -- e.g., oocalc -- and I have one file loaded and attempt to load another, the load dialogue is often extremely slow. It can take half a minute to populate the file-list box -- this for a small directory with about a dozen files! I sometimes run oocalc from konsole. oocalc generates tons of qdbus messages. [opensuse] Keeping the monitor turned on

Hi - This may be more appropriate to the KDE group but seems like this is a better place to ask as this may be a system level issue... Running SuSE11.2 with KDE 4.4.2 I want the ability to leave my monitor up with the display turned on indefinitely, for my media center, especially when I am playing music and running a visualization program. I have tried to go into the KDE System Settings and turned off all the power management schemes, PowerDevil etc. This is a desktop system so battery mode is not an option. Yet something is insisting on turning off the monitor after a few minutes of "inactivity" I have look elsewhere (Sax, nvidia manager etc) and cannot find anything else which might be also trying to configure a timeout on the display.. So how do I keep the display up and running? Thanks for any and all ideas offered! Marc..

[opensuse] Sync LDAP + Samba password

Hi all, I have a Samba PDC with an LDAP backend. With both PDC and LDAP, I'm able to maintain a centralized user/group/... directory, for both windows and Linux machine to login and authenticate. I can also synchronize passwords, from SAMBA do OpenLDAP when a user changes his password on a windows machine. I've done it with the ldap passwd sync option at smb.conf. The problem I was not able overcome is when users change their passwords on a Linux machine using the ldap client, like a simple passwd command. With this method , the LDAP password gets updated but, the SAMBA passwords do not. I've tryed googling about it, without success. How can I update SAMBA passwords when users update them directly at LDAP ? Can anyone share a solution for this issue ? Using openSUSE 11.2. LDAP Directory imported from OpenLDAP from an openSUSE 10.3 machine. [opensuse] NFS and SLES 10

Hi all I'm having strange issues with a NFS mount on a SLES 10 SP2 server. The NFS share gets mounted just before a backup is done. This used to work fine since the machine was built. Now I'm getting strange errors when trying to mount it. mount: server:share: can't read superblock This morning I got this error: nfs bindresvport: Address already in use After restarting portmap and retrying the mount I again received the "can't read superblock" error. The NFS share works fine on other servers and a showmount -e server ip works 100%. I can see the shares. Short of rebooting the server(a little difficult to get downtime), has anyone experienced this problem before? [opensuse] howto open firewall to all traffic to a host

Hello Folks, I am trying to get a SiliconDust internet TV card box to work with Opensuse 11.2, but am having firewall issues. With the firewall turned off, the hdhomerun (Silicon dust software) configure will detect the TV tuner and return it's IP address and ID. With the firewall enabled the tuner is not detected as expected. I tried opening up the necessary ports and services but thhat did not work and according to SiliconDust tech support the tuner uses random high port on the PC so it is not possible to firewall based on incoming ports. They suggest that I allow all traffic to/from the HDHomeRun's IP address. My question is how to best do this? I could not find how to do this with yast. [opensuse] magnifier-application does'nt work properly?

Dear Bob. S First of all thank you very much for your help. I have installed the application kmag in a computer with 64-system, Dual Core 3GHz, ATI-Technologies-inc graphic card and pre-installed OpenSuSE.11.2. But it doesnt work properly. The magnify-function enlarges itself automatically and becomes again and again larger and the image becomes inexactly. Can you imagine what could be rong? what kind of computer-system and Graphic card do you have in your comuter with magnifier-application ? Thank in advanced Khaled.
