The initrd was updated so it is not culprit for stray kernel. Other reasons can be: 1) You updated system and kernel, but forgot to reboot. 2) some other boot medium that loads 11.1 kernel. [opensuse] Verizon UMW190 wireless broadband modem

I just got a Verizon UMW190 USB modem for my ASUS 1000HE netbook. It's too new to have any formal linux support. When I try to use the Network Manager, it insists that it is a GSM modem, which would be outside the US. Verizon is on CDMA. Google came to the rescue. Then 'pppd call 1xevdo' will connect to the modem, dial Verizon and set up the network. This works in Ubuntu 9.10, but NOT in openSUSE 11.2. In Ubuntu pppd does everything and successfully disconnects from the terminal. Then I can browse the internet. OpenSUSE goes through everything except for setting up the network. I see a message in /var/log/messages that 1xevdo_chat has completed. It doesn't disconnect and I can't browse or ping. I even tried it with the firewall shut off. [opensuse] Problem with KDE switching users with an ATI Sapphire 4670 Graphics card

Hello all, I do have a problem switching users My configuration is: Asus Mainboard P5D Deluxe 4GB A-Data 1066 MHZ but running on 800 MHz An ATI Sapphire HD 4670 and a Hitachi 750GB harddrive. Running Opensuse Linux 11.2 on 64 Bit. The trouble shows when I am trying to switch users: It just won't work: I can create new Sessions and virtual terminals, but I cannot switch to them. When I try to do so, I get an entry into the logfile /var/log/Xorg.0.log which reads (II) fglrx(0): Restoring Recent Mode via PCS is not supported in RANDR 1.2 capable environments and in logfile /var/log/Xorg.1.log I find an entry Fatal server error: xf86OpenConsole: VT_WAITACTIVE failed: Interrupted System call. The file $HOME/.kde4/share/apps/RecentDocument/ati-driver-installer-9-12-x86.x86_64.run.desktop seems to contain a hint as to the version of the driver 9.12 for 64bit. I am able to program a little bit, but I would need a hint where to look at, to cut down my time of debugging this situation. It should be a problem witht he graphics card driver, as this routine works very well with other cards and other computers I have. [opensuse] Thunderbird - add account

Am trying to add an account in Thunderbird (openSuse11.2 x64, Thunderbird 3.0.0-1.1.1 + Lightning), and when I go to Edit>Account Settings>Account Actions>Add Mail Account, it is greyed out, and I can't do it.... Have checked owner/permissions in the Thunderbird data directory and all seems OK. Any ideas? [opensuse] Shaer /boot partition ??

A friend it going to install 2 or 3 flavors of Linux with XP on one drive. He is under the impression that the linux installations can share the same /boot partition and I haven't found any data either way. Does anybody know if this will work? Has anybody tried this? [opensuse] XTerm colors are now wrong :^(

openSUSE 11.2 x86_64 kdebase4-openSUSE-11.2-106.41.x86_64 lxde-common-0.5.0-5.1.noarch xfce4-desktop-4.6.1-3.3.x86_64 Just switched to lxde and then to xfce4 and xterm colors are all changed. Background is dark blue and foreground is white. Previous it was white background and black foreground. I changed nothing, at lease on purpose that would affect this difference.
