[opensuse] Recover a flash drive?

I bought a Geek Squad 4GB flash drive several years ago. It's one of those that have a 4MB Windows annoy-ware partition and a fat32 partition in the rest. Except that now it only has the 4MB partition. Neither Windows nor suse see the 4G partition -- not even with fdisk. I googled "flash drive format utility linux", and several subsets of those words, but found no help. I seem to remember someone saying that I could get rid of the persistent 4M annoyware by doing a dd write of some sort, but I didn't understand it at the time, and now I've lost the reference. I thought this might be a way to recover the 4G, but if the system can't see it, can it write to it? Before I toss it and buy another, can someone tell me how I might salvage this one? [opensuse] A question about errors in logs

Guys, I been doing a search on net for common log errors that show attacks. I am working on a script to put information from my logs to check for attacks, here are three I got. Does anyone know were I can find more, or can you recommend a string for me to search for? [opensuse] openOffice 3.1.1 - hanging on autosave & autocorrect reverses CAPS lock key

Listmates, Before I file bugs on the two issues, I would like to see if anyone else has encountered them. The two bugs are: (1) openOffice writer freezing (getting stuck, whatever -- dimmed and busy cursor) when it autosaves a document on the my local drive. (2) the autocorrect feature that corrects the Initial Capital Letters seems to have reversed my caps lock key. After the autocorrection, now I get lower case with the light for my caps lock key illuminated and UPPER CASE WHEN I SWITCH CAPS LOCKS OFF. (just end a sentence with a period and start typing in lower case) What gives? (this is kde4 -- of course... Ver 4.3.1 build 168 on OPENsUse 11.0) -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. Guys, I am reposting this to mailing list, it from Amanda James one of the members on the page. Hi all. I have a problem with transfer of photos from my Sony Ericsson w890i to my OpenSuse 11.1 destop. It's just happened, because digiKam recognised my phone as a USB mass storage device yesterday, but not today. I haven't added any software recently. Any help guys and guyettes, thanks. [opensuse] HPLIP and HP LaserJet 5 PPD

I have a problem with HPLIP. I tried to install hplip-3.9.8.run and source hplip-3.9.8.tar.gz from the http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/index.html website. It installed after a dependency libgphoto2-devel was installed. I also tried using the YaST installation of the package. After the installation, "sudo hp-setup" did not work. Could someone tell me where the HPLIP.ppd is please. After installing the HPLIP package, my HP LaserJet 5 (with JetDirect) printer does not work any more. The Device URI Model "hp:/usb/Deskjet_F4100_series?serial=-- HP Deskjet F4100 series" works well with the previous PPD. I did not change anything or install it with HPLIP. I need a working PPD for the HP LaserJet 5. The existing ones do not work any more since a recent openSUSE update. I cannot say what changed, but the PPD's for this printer does not work any more. Right now, be aware we are trouble-shooting an openSuSE problem with the hylafax getaddrinfo call in hylafax-6.0.3/hfaxd/InetFaxServer.c++ file at the moment. Hopefully it will be resolved soon. Bogdan, Thanks for the tip about the systray setting that allows you to hide systray icons to save space. (It saves a LOT) For those that haven't tried it, just right click in an "empty" space in the systray and choose "System Tray Settings" then under the "Auto Hide" option "uncheck" any that you want to hide (it's kind of backwards logic) -- David C. [opensuse] KDE3 in openSUSE

In order to help to solve the KDE3 issue in a constructive way: As a member of the openSUSE KDE team I would like to appoint Basil Chupin as the leader of the effort to create an openSUSE team dedicated to KDE3. I suggest starting by asking mailing lists administrators for an opensuse-kde3 mailing list where all people interested in KDE3 in openSUSE can gather and discuss creation of the team and its further actions. We, the generic openSUSE KDE team, will try to help as possible if needed (although, obviously, we have also other work to do). This task should not require any special skills and you apparently have time to dedicate to KDE3 in openSUSE. Therefore, if you refuse, you are apparently not interested in anything else than chatting about KDE3 and in that case I suggest you move that to some other more suitable place, as that is not the purpose of this mailing list. Also, if you refuse, I would like you to state that explicitly, so that I can appoint another person, until either somebody finally starts actually doing something useful or you all realize that you are not helping openSUSE this way at all.
