[opensuse] KDE4.3Beta1 QT45 Library Breaks Yast Software Management In 11.0 Bug Filed

Listmates, After installing kde 433 beta1 with the 1-click-install, yast software management is broken by installation of qt45 libraries. A bug has been filed on the issue which you may reference at: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=509626 On the flip side, KDE4 is looking good. Only saw the crash assistant one time while going through the configure desktop settings. Compiz is really strange in 4.3 desktop effects, but most of it works. [opensuse] Ghostscript (PS->PDF) Terrible Performance Under 11.1 Compared To 10.3

We use openSUSE for our Intranet web servers, which frequently convert documents to PDF using a2ps/ps2pdf. Under openSUSE 10.3 (GS 8.15.4-3.2) this process is very fast. Unfortunately after upgrading to openSUSE 11.1 (GS 8.62-31.43.1) we find the process to be excruciatingly slow. With just a 135KB PDF, containing no images, we see times like: openSUSE 10.3: real 0m1.5s user 0m0.4s sys 0m1.1s openSUSE 11.1: real 0m5.2s user 0m1.6s sys 0m3.6s so that is quite a bit slower proportionally. But run a 632 page postscript file (again, no images) and... openSUSE 10.3: real 0m4.680s user 0m3.912s sys 0m0.768s openSUSE 11.1: effectively never finishes This is the time for running the following command: /usr/bin/gs -dSAFER -dCompatibilityLevel=1.2 -q -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -sOutputFile=file.pdf -dSAFER -c .setpdfwrite -f file.ps openSUSE 10.3: ghostscript-fonts-std-8.15.4-3.2 ghostscript-library-8.15.4-3.2 openSUSE 11.1 ghostscript-library-8.62-31.43.1.i586 ghostscript-fonts-std-8.62-31.43.1.i586 ghostscript-x11-8.62-31.43.1.i586 ghostscript-fonts-other-8.62-31.43.1.i586 ghostscript-omni-8.62-31.43.1.i586 I've tried removing ghostscript-omni to no effect. I've watched with "strace -c" and it doesn't appear to be spending all it's time in system calls, so it is Ghostscript itself. During the run time the gs process pegs the CPU. [opensuse] I've messed something up - YaST modules won't load...

Hi, all. Somehow I've messed something up along the way and I suspect I've got some incompatible libs installed somewhere. Every time YaST2 Control Centre tries to load a module I get xmessage popping up with an error message: YaST got signal 11 at YCP file Wizard.ycp:341 /sbin/yast2: line 421: 15125 Segmentation fault $ybindir/y2base $module "$@" "$SELECTED_GUI" $Y2_GEOMETRY $Y2UI_ARGS This is occurring under KDE3, KDE4 and Gnome. The last time I saw this it was related to incompatible qt libs but I'm not sure if this is the case this time. (See - that's what I get for playing around with factory repositories etc...some people never learn ;-) ). I'm trying to solve a persistent video device naming problem having to do with myth, it requires the /dev/video? to be consistent on each startup. [opensuse] iPod/Amarok oddness

Hi All I'm not finding the answer on the net so I'm forced to ask the list. I just got a new laptop and I loaded OpenSUSE 11.1 boxed. Amarok setup went OK, except the packman install no longer seems to have the mysql storage. No Bigee. When I plug my iPod (5G) in, I no longer am offered the option to open in a new windows (indicating, I think that it's not automatically mounted). Mount at the CLI agrees. I don't recall having to do anything on my old laptop to get it to automatically recognize USB media, but I ran it for over 6 years and I may have forgotten. Suggestions? [opensuse] how to block IP's with /etc/hosts.deny? (not working)

Hi all, I am having some trouble with one IP, that is bugging one of my servers for almost a week now with virusses. I have been putting this IP in /etc/hosts.deny, but it is not blocked when connecting to postfix. Why is this? Guys, I need to write a script that gives one use access to stop and start apache, I don't want to give them sudo. A friend gave me this c script.....but it not working is there a way to do this in bash? [opensuse] gdb/corefile question

Wondering if someone here might be able to help me out with a weird (at least to me) gdb issue... openSUSE 11.0, trying to obtain a core file (via gdb or whatever means) for a program that's segfaulting so the developer can diagnose the problem further. I've set the core limit to unlimited (both in limits.conf and using ulimit -c) but I don't get a core. I don't see any condition that would prevent a core file from being written (cwd is writable, binary is readable, no suid stuff in use at all with it, /proc/kernel settings are for a corefile called "core" with no PID in the cwd) I thought that I might get around this by running the program under gdb. But when the program segfaults, gdb immediately tells me that the program no longer exists and won't give me a backtrace or any useful debugging information. In fact, it doesn't even give me any useless debugging information. I had done a little reading and found the "catch signal" command, but it seems that gdb 6.8 (on 11.0) doesn't have this feature implemented. What other options do I have to get a core from this program? I have the current Adobe flash installed on my computer, and mozilla about:plugins lists it: Shockwave Flash File name: libflashplayer.so Shockwave Flash 10.0 r22 MIME Type Description Suffixes Enabled application/x-shockwave-flash Shockwave Flash swf Yes application/futuresplash FutureSplash Player spl Yes But, oddly, this page complains that my version is too old. I have 10, and it wants at least 9.
