[opensuse] Howto Start enlightment from /usr/local/e16/bin ?? (brainless moment)

Guys, I have built enlightenment from source but I cannot get it to start. The packages were built with --prefix=/usr/local so the binaries are in /usr/local/e16/bin and I have added /usr/local/e16/bin to my PATH. I have tried to start it from runlevel 3 and from runlevel 5 after a CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE to drop to the command line. The problem is that I get a DISPLAY variable error on start. I have set: DISPLAY=':0' DISPLAY=':0.0' and I still get the following error: Enlightenment cannot connect to the display nominated by your shell's DISPLAY environment variable. You may set this variable to indicate which display name Enlightenment is to connect to. It may be that you do not have an Xserver already running to serve that Display connection, or that you do not have permission to connect to that display. Please make sure all is correct before trying again. Run an Xserver by running xdm or startx first, or contact your local system administrator, or Xserver vendor, or read the X, xdm and startx manual pages before proceeding. I know this should be simple, thus the (brainless moment) but what's the trick?? After picking through xdm-config, Xsetup, Xstartup, Xresources, Xsession, and Xservers files, I though in the towel and just decided to ask :-( -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. Hello: Sorry for it but this post will be a little bit long. I have a problem configuring network card in openSUSE 11.1. I have an onboard network card which is recognized as "Giga-byte GA-7VM400M/7VT600 Motherboard" in openSUSE 10.3 (in YAST/Network card/network settings window). The same card is recognized as "RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+" in openSUSE 11.1 YAST. This network card worked perfectly in openSUSE 11.1 Recently I have installed a PCI network card (VIA VT6105 RhineIII), and removed all existing network card configurations in 11.1 YAST to start configuration from scratch. Now when I want to configure network in 11.1, YAST gives the following error message: "RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ (Not connected) BusID : 0000:00:13.0 Unable to configure the network card because the kernel device (eth0, wlan0) is not present. This is mostly caused by missing firmware (for wlan devices). See dmesg output for details." I can neither delete nor configure the card. I can configure the other card in YAST. In dmesg I found this: eth0: VIA Rhine III at 0x19000, 00:40:f4:b1:f3:ba, IRQ 18. eth0: MII PHY found at address 1, status 0x7849 advertising 05e1 Link 0000. ... 8139cp: 10/100 PCI Ethernet driver v1.3 (Mar 22, 2004) ... eth0 renamed to eth2 by udevd [1232] udev: renamed network interface eth0 to eth2 ... eth2: link down ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth2: link is not ready (I guess the RTL card would require 8139too driver.) ref: opensuse 11.2 kde 4.3.1 I know that kprinter has not been ported to kde 4. Any other info you are aware of? Do you use any replacement? For me it was very useful when I needed it to run some not-kde application and even when I use crossover. [opensuse] KDE 4.3.4 Finally allows banishing Activities

I updated to 4.3.4 and found immediately that my desktop activities had decided to re-arrange themselves again. I went in to delete the rogue activity, but alas, even unlocked there is no RED X with which to remove the spare activities that have spawned by themselves. (Why is that so hard?) Anyway, while playing around I noticed it was possible to individually set each desktop to be a Plain Desktop. This is in addition to the two prior choices of Folder view and Default. With Plain Desktop Selected, you are finally back to what we had in KDE3 (and every other desktop system) with the ability to put a wallpaper on each desktop and expect it to stay. Gone too is the Cashew, and widgets. No loss in my opinion, I use applications, not having found any of the dysfunctional widgets worth while. But the news is the CHOICE of desktop type is PER desktop, so you can have it both ways. I haven't had time to determine if this feature is as Stable as it looks. [opensuse] 11.2 x86_64 system meltdown -- anyone else?

Listmates, I have installed both x86_64 and i586 versions of 11.2. Initially I was really enjoying the release. As I loaded more software, I began to experience significant problems. There was that strange "LC_*" not set issue and then finally I experienced a complete meltdown of the x86_64 box - it's a wipe clean and reinstall issue. The i586 box is also having issues. The most glaring is multiple duplicate entries in the yast -> sysconfig editor (i.e. two DISPLAY MANAGER, two WINDOW MANAGER sections, etc...) I know that can't be good. Additionally compiz works perfectly in gnome, but fails to start in kde giving the error of screens not found on display :0.0. There are other oddities. Gnome had been my primary desktop and had been working fine. Just now for some reason, it has lost all window decoration (just plain gnome -- no compiz). In fact, the only way to get window decorations back is to start compiz and select the gtk decorator. Is there a 'gtkdeco --replace' like command in gnome I can try? Something like the 'emerald --replace' command in compiz? I haven't had time to keep up with the list lately so I don't know if this has already been discussed, but I'm interested in hearing your experiences with either meltdowns and solutions or multiple entries in sysconfig. What says the braintrust? Tip: for those that use mc, in options -> configuration, choose 'Lynx-like motion' on the right side and mc becomes a thing of beauty. [opensuse] Share not home folders

Hi all I need to ask you guys again. I have a couple internal disks in my openSUSE box and would like to share folders on those disks on my little home network. But the system tells me that I can only share folders inside my home - is there any way around this? [opensuse] Why doesn't yast/zypper show or select the latest packages anymore?

Listmates, What is going on with zypper and yast?? I used to be able to do an update in software management or with zypper and get the latest packages. Now neither yast or zypper will upgrade your box to the most current packages in either packman or build service?? The only way I have found to get some of the latest packages is to step through software management with the Filter -> Repositories and select individual packages (package-by-package) to choose versions of compiz, enlightenment, etc.. What gives? Why can't I do a simple "Update if newer package is available" and see the current packages available from all the resources?? I do webpin, then it takes an extraordinary amount of time to pick through yast package-by-package to find what webpin said is supposed to be available.
