[opensuse] Checksums, openSuSE downloads, md5sum

Hi list, - and a HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL! - I'm puzzled by md5sums. I've downloaded openSuSE11 (both 32 and 64 bit versions) and openSuSE11.1 (32/64 too). - I get the same odd errors with 11 as with 11.1. This is my situation: I try to verify the md5sum of openSuSE11(i386/32), it should be ed6a5b3feb668866df812b1c2aed9d7f openSUSE-11.0-DVD-i386.iso but using "md5sum openSUSE-11.0-DVD-i386.iso", I get: a38623810009842eeb1542a2052cfc2d openSUSE-11.0-DVD-i386.iso This, of course, is wrong. If I do a "md5sum -c openSUSE-11.0-DVD-i386.iso", I get 500+ lines saying the this or that -rpm file could not be read, general i/o error or so" Now if I burn an ISO DVD, it verifies correctly when doing the "check media" before installation (!). Installation starts fine, but in some cases breaks later on, but not always... I use K3B for burning, it reports a sound md5sum. I downloaded the isos from mirrors and directly from SuSE too. I downloaded from two different locations, albeit to the same PC (my laptop). I stored the received files (during download) onto the harddisk and also onto a USB stick. Same story. As you can tell, I've done quite a few downloads...All the downloaded files yield the same md5sum (using md5sum without the -c flag), never mind what media I store onto. And regardless of wherefrom and my method of downloading. As of now, I'm not really able to install openSuSE11(1) to anything, as I can't seem to get this right. Questions: a) The md5sums listed on the openSuSE web are (of course) correct b) what's the correct and proper way of verifying the md5sums? c) I used wget, firefox directly and a FF-extension called DownThenAll for downloading. What would be your recommendation? [opensuse] mdadm keeps breaking my array

Hi, I'm running openSUSE 11.1 with KDE 3.5.10. /home mounts a RAID1 mirrored array, /dev/md0, made up of two identical 1TB Western Digital disks, bought about 6 to 9 months ago. mdadm has kicked one of these disks out of the array twice in the last 24 hours. The first time this happened, I issued #mdadm --manage /dev/md0 --add /dev/sdd1 mdadm: re-added /dev/sdd1 so it appeared to be happy to put this disk back into the array. However, tonight it's happened again, and the same command results in #mdadm --manage /dev/md0 --add /dev/sdd1 mdadm: Cannot open /dev/sdd1: Device or resource busy Does this mean that sdd is failing and needs to be replaced? I sort of know the answer I'm going to get, but thought I'd check here first, in case I was missing something obvious. Hi, Is it intended that the libcurl-devel does not contain the static library ? Can it be found in another package ? I was playing around with the roadsend php compiler, and nedded the static libcurl library to compile staticly linked php applications. [opensuse] SUSE Studio - When?

What's the time frame on getting SUSE Studio opened up? I would love to be able to build custom install CDs that's don't have a lot of the stuff that the other install media have(like openoffice, mono, beagle, etc). Also, is there going to be support for x86-64 and ppc(really could use ppc more than anything)? From what I have seen, only i386 is supported now. [opensuse] opensuse 11.1 and command not found

Maybe this is not new to 11.1, but this is where I noticed it: When you type a command that is not found, the shell looks up where the command might be found, and tells you which package to install. Generally this seems like a nice touch. I have a few questions: 1) Where is it looking for information on where the missing command can be installed from? 2) If this feature can find which package that is not installed contains the file, why can't YasT show the files in packages that are not installed? There must be a database somewhere for this. 3) Does it deal with commands that are installed, but perhaps not in your PATH? 4) JIC, how could this feature be disabled? Is anyone on this list aware of a problem with the Novell (SLES 10) online update site ? I registered a new subscription yesterday, but fail to download the updates. [opensuse] unable to install acroread-8.1.3 in openSUSE11.1

System is openSUSE11.1 (x86) with KDE3/4,Gnome,XFce. OSS and Non-OSS repos are enabled for Yast>Software Management. Search for "acroread" brings up the rpm in the list but when I select it and click on Apply, I get an error dialog box "nothing provides libcrypto.so.9.7 needed by acroread-8.1.3 blah blah" A quick check shows me that libcrypto.so.9.8 is installed on the system. So I created a symlink libcrypto.so.9.7 linking to the libcrypto.so.9.8 file, executed "ldconfig" still no go. It still gives the same error dialog box. [opensuse] dhcp on Suse 11.0

Hello, I have just noticed a strange anomaly. After migrating my dhcpd server from a Fedora box to Suse, none of my Vista users can get IP addresses. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, do you no of a solution?
