[opensuse] RFR: Printing From Browsers

Hi, I am almost always frustrated by the results of printing HTML pages from Firefox (I'm using version 2.0.x). The most common problem I encounter is that text lines mean nothing to the pagination process and it is common for a row of text to be sliced horizontally and split across a page boundary. Does anyone know of a browser that does well with printing? Thanks. My Xboard chess program fails to start. it emits following fatal errors: -> Error writing to first chess program: Broken pipe -> Failed to start first chess program crafty xboard on localhost: crafty: No such file or directory. I ran xboard with success on SUSE 10.0+. [opensuse] Is the list up?

For several days, now, traffic from the list has been intermittent. Early in the week, I got no messages for 2 days, then I got them all in a pile of ~250. Now it's been 3 days since I've seen an onpensuse message. Is the problem at the list end, or my end? Or in middle somewhere? Using 11.0 x86 64 with kde 4.1 and trying to install the lightscribe software from their website. When i try to install lightscribeApplications-1.10.19.1-linux-2.6-intel.rpm from the command line, i get dependency error: error: Failed dependencies: libpng.so.3 is needed by lightscribeApplications-1.10.19.1-0.i386 I then try to run rpm --whatprovide libpng.so.3 and promptly get the rpm usage output. [opensuse] recursive md5 files order

Hello: I am using the following syntax to create an md5 file containing all the md5 sums recursively: > find . -type f -print0 | xargs -0 md5sum > ~/tmp/foo.md5 Unfortunately this method crates an md5 file in which the order of the files seems to be random. Eg: 4e0a0c9d1c2d94cf8481a3e32f95b55b ./Album1/07.mp3 442765056a35156e9d6d19ccde5a0801 ./Album1/11.mp3 8c794bbfdad7e00860739d1852c3db86 ./Album1/09.mp3 489ffb1566b1bd1f21625c6f9fcf19d8 ./Album1/06.mp3 477baacaf7e95ea483d9ed1d94bed0bb ./Album1/10.mp3 etc. How could I get the files and subdirectories sorted in alphabetical order? [opensuse] Apache2 and environment variables

Is there any elegant-already-thought way of setting environment variables for apache2? (that means not touching /etc/init.d/apache2), i've added oci8 support for apache2 on a server and defined variables in '/etc/profile.d' which allows me to start apache2 with oci8 support, BUT if the server is restarted apache2 starts without oci8 module and I have to restart manually. [opensuse] opensuse 11.0 sound messed up.

Folks, One of the latest YOU messed up my sound which worked perfectly (for many years). My sound driver is the snd-intel8x0. I can fix sound by one of two ways: 1. run these commands(http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Sound_Card_Makes_a_Noise_After_KDE_Star…: * rcalsasound stop * rm /etc/asound.state * rcalsasound start * alsactl store2. un-install my sound driver and then re-install it. The problem is after doing so sound works fine untill the next reboot. After a reboot soundstill works about 50% of the time, the rest of the time I have to repeat this procedure again and again. How do I make this a permanent fix? Also, I noticed (around the same time I made these updates) that if I run XMMS I get the "kdeinit CheckHardware executible not found" error message. I re-installed the "desktop-data-opensuse" rpm which provides this executible but that does not solve the problem. Any idea how I can fix this? [opensuse] Email Passwords

I use KMail to pull email. I have several different accounts (all domains I own like the ones below) that have email addresses from which I pull. The past week, I've been getting prompted to enter the password for each one on a regular basis - not all of them, mind you, either. Also, it doesn't happen all the time. I just did an email check to see if I would get prompted and I didn't. I normally save my passwords in KWallet and this has worked up until the past week or so. I've been on 10.3 pretty much since it came out and haven't done anything more than SMART or YOU upgrades. Listmates, Every time a new fglrx driver comes out, I end up dorking with my script for automating the install from the ATi binary to try and improve it. Tonight is no different. The task: "I may have several versions of the fglrx rpm in the directory where the script is running or in /usr/src/packages/RPMS/.. and I want the script to automatically select the latest one to install. Such as (names for testing purposes only): -rw-r--r-- 1 david dcr 21355823 2008-08-22 21:08 fglrx64_7_1_0_SUSE110-8.522-1.x86_64.rpm -rw-r--r-- 1 david dcr 0 2008-08-22 23:47 fglrx64_7_1_0_SUSE110-8.523-1.x86_65.rpm -rw-r--r-- 1 david dcr 0 2008-08-22 23:47 fglrx64_7_1_0_SUSE110-8.524-1.x86_66.rpm Specifically what I need help solving is "what is the best way to select the newest fglrx rpm from the present directory to install?" I can do it 3 different ways, but all rely on file creation time (ls -t) and seem horribly inefficient. Using the version number would seem to be a better way. So far I have: (1) Grab the first filename from $(ls -t fglrx*.rpm) with a for loop: mcount=1 for i in $(ls -t fglrx*.rpm); do if [ "$mcount" -eq "1" ]; then FGLRX_RPM="$i" echo -e "\n\t\tSelecting: $FGLRX_RPM\n" let "mcount+=1" fi done This seems like a giant waste of a loop. (2) Grab it using sed to delete everything after the first whitespace: FGLRX_RPM=$(echo $(ls -t fglrx*.rpm) | sed -e 's/\s.*//' -e 's/\s*$//') This is a cludge and I want to eliminate the pipe and the sed call (3) Dump the dir list into an array and grab the first element: RPM_ARRAY=( $(ls -t fglrx*.rpm) ) FGLRX_RPM=${RPM_ARRAY[0]} This is better, but it still seems clumsy. There has to be a better way to do this. How can I pull the version information from the filename itself and take the highest version regardless of the file time information? I can't figure out how to parse the version fields in the filename after I have the directory list of fglrx files without adding more sed calls and more loop. I'd pull the version info like this: fglrx64_7_1_0_SUSE110-8.522-1.x86_64.rpm ^^^^^ out of what is returned by $(ls -t fglrx*.rpm) and use that to select the file?
