[opensuse] RPM --whatprovides
Using 11.0 x86 64 with kde 4.1 and trying to install the lightscribe software from their website. When i try to install lightscribeApplications-1.10.19.1-linux-2.6-intel.rpm from the command line, i get dependency error: error: Failed dependencies: libpng.so.3 is needed by lightscribeApplications-1.10.19.1-0.i386 I then try to run rpm --whatprovide libpng.so.3 and promptly get the rpm usage output. That is the correct syntax for whatprovides, right? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

You need "Query-mode" and an 's': rpm -q --whatprovides libpng.so.3 ^ But that only searches what *installed* package provides something. You can find what (not installed) package contains something via pin, zypper, yast or the online search. Anyway, you need the package 'libpng', but I don't think that you don't have that installed already, as libpng is needed for many basic packages, and libpng.so.3 is provided at least since SuSE 8.2 up to openSUSE 10.2 (inclusive). -dnh -- Some people have no repect of age unless it is bottled. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

You use "rpm --whatprovides" to find the installed package owner of certain file... To search within the configured repositories you should use zypper:
zypper what-provides libpng.so.3

Sweet. Many thanks! Now can anyone explain how to open or launch the lighscribe app? Tried lightscribe at the prompt and searched through the menu for a gui but nothing found. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

After I installed it, I checked what files were associated with it. You can do that in YaST, in the software installation module. You can make a menu entry for it manually, if you want. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

OK, i found the simplelabeler. Now, i am going to ask a beginner question: how do i manually make an entry in the menu for it? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Right click on Main Menu icon > Menu Editor In editor select Utilities > Printing and then on the top line you have Add New Item. It will ask you for the name. Enter "LightScribe" or "Simple Labler". In next window mandatory is Command where you put command to run for a lightscribe. -- Regards, Rajko http://en.opensuse.org/Portal needs helpful hands. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

You need a package, that unfortunately does not exist. it should be called libpng3-32bit there is only libpng12-0-32bit. -- "A computer is like an Old Testament god, with a lot of rules and no mercy. There is libpng3 compatibility package | libpng3 | package | 1.2.26-14.1 | x86_64 | openSUSE-11.0-Oss | libpng3 | package | 1.2.26-14.1 | i586 | openSUSE-11.0-Oss libpng3 Library for the Portable Network Graphics Format (PNG) - compatibility version libpng3-1.2.26-14.1.i586.rpm will install in /usr/lib libpng3-1.2.26-14.1.x86_64.rpm will install in /usr/lib64 What is the difference? -- Regards, Rajko http://en.opensuse.org/Portal needs helpful hands. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

What is the difference?
That one is 32 bit and the other 64? Or do you mean the difference between the .i586.rpm and the -32bit Christian mentioned? If you install the .i586.rpm, it will replace the x86_64.rpm. The -32bit package can peacefully exist besides the x86_64 package. Philipp -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
