[opensuse] Question of http to https rewriting with apache and openSuSE 10.3

Listmates, I think I am doing this right, but it doesn't work. I have a "Directory" covered by "AuthType" Basic that I want to cause an non-secure (http:) access attempts to be rewritten to secure (https:) access. I am using the Directory definition to set up the rewrite instead of using .htaccess. The rewrite would work the same either way. mod_rewrite.c is loaded and happy. Here is what I have so far in the Directory definition to try and accomplish this: Options +Indexes +FollowSymLinks # RewriteEngine On RewriteBase /dcr # SSLOptions +StrictRequire SSLRequireSSL SSLRequire %{HTTP_HOST} eq "www.3111skyline.com/dcr" ErrorDocument 403 default # RewriteCond %{HTTPS} !=on RewriteRule .* https://%{SERVER_NAME}%{REQUEST_URI} [R,L] What happens is that upon trying to access the url, you are immediately rewritten to https:, but you are not directed back to /dcr, instead you end up at the home page for the site in secure mode. ( https://www.3111skyline.com ) So it is nearly working, but not quite. I am a noob at this rewriting stuff. Do any of you veterans have an ideas what is going wrong or where I should look for answers? The only error in the log is: [Fri Jun 06 01:23:21 2008] [error] [client 192.168.6.101] access to /srv/www/dcr/ failed, reason: SSL connection required But, from my understanding, this isn't a problem because this occurs at the SSLRequire stage which is just a log of the attempted access by http: before redirection to https: occurs. [opensuse] Setting up a networked printer with openSUSE 10.3

Hi, I want to setup a printer (Brother HL-2030) to be accessible to all the network. I've done this setup many times on Slackware, Debian and CentOS. Usually it's just a matter of adding a few lines to /etc/cups/cupsd.conf on the server side, and then create a two-liner /etc/cups/client.conf on the client side. But I'm new to SUSE and YaST: I tried to do that yesterday, and managed to get the printer to print on the "server" machine. But then, I don't know how to setup networking for that. Any suggestions? [opensuse] ppd file needed?

Hello Suse people, On the 21st I asked for help about cups. It was about a 10.3 new install on my son's machine, Can't get his Brother MFC3430C printer working. Installed the Brother driver and cupswrapper and it shows up in localhost:631 and is now configurable by root (Thanks Carlos) Can send a test message which can be seen sending but the printer doesn't respond. Checking further on the Wiki, Brother install instructions, linux openprinting etc. I find conflicting info. One place says that for the driver to work it needs the ppd. Another place says if you have the ppd you don't need the driver.(Or that is what I understood in my confused state) Can the printer guru's clarify this for me? I've got to get this thing working. BTW the database states that this printer works excellently. Hate to let my son see that this don't work in Linux and he has to go buy a new printer. [opensuse] weird: WLAN *sometimes* doesn't connect

Hello, still tinkering with my WLAN on OpenSuse 10.3. Usually it works as it should. But sometimes (once in 5 times?) it just doesn't connect. I see my WLAN but I cannot connect. I attach the respective NetworkManager log. As you can see - after boot, login, enter my KWallet pwd, it should connect automatically - it does most of the time, but this time not - window appears asking me the passphrase, I just click "connect", no success - try again, no success - I wait a bit then right click the KNetworkManager icon and click on my WLAN, again no success - I stopped KNetworkManager and also killed NetworkManager and NetworkManagerD (what didn't seem to be a good idea) - startet KNetworkManager from the menu, the icon appears, but it sais "KNetworkManager not running" - logget out and in again, no change - So I rebooted to undo my wrong kill... - again the first attempt to connect fails - again I cklick "connect" in the apperaing window - and voila: it works. Weird, isn't it? Can you see from the attached log where the problem lies? thanks for your hints. Our company has been offered this tape library free with 200 tapes to do with it. All they are asking is for me to erase the tapes. I'm wondering if anyone here on the list has worked with one of these with Sure Linux an if so can you advices me what software you used to make backups with to it. I have opensuse an sles/sled on hand to use. Hi there!. I have been trying to get Eclipse 3.3 CDT running under openSUSE 10.2 AMD x64, but I get this error on startup: JVM terminated. It has disappeared from there too. When I first installed this, my wireless device was "just there" in Yast, and all I had to do to get it to run was to give it my network key in the network manager applet. Now, the network applet doesn't show wireless as an option at all, ifconfig -a doesn't show the device, and Yast doesn't offer the device either. The only way I know I even have a wireless card any more is because it shows up in hwinfo. Thoughts? [opensuse] Wireless disappeared?

Hi all, For no reason I can fathom, but following a "crash" of sorts (my user session died, and I had to shutdown/reboot from a different login) my wireless interface has "disappeared". The network manager thingy doesn't see it. ifconfig -a does not see it. Yast's network hardware page does not see it. Meanwhile, hwinfo still sees the device: 81: udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/pci_8086_4222' pci.product = 'PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection' pci.subsys_vendor = 'Intel Corporation' info.bus = 'pci' pci.device_protocol = 0 (0x0) info.udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/pci_8086_4222' [...] Any suggestions?
