How do I enable VNC on SLES 8 ? I would like to VNC from my Windows desktop to a Linux (sles8) server. [opensuse] resolution in runlevel 3, weird startup, flash in firefox, ...

Hi List, I've finally decided to try to figure out some of the problems I'm having :-) I've opensuse 10.3 running on thinkpad t61, with compiz and all the updates. I have NVidia graphics card, and drivers are installed following the wiki. Now when I change to runlevel 3 (I guess) with Ctrl + F3 or something else, (or while booting) the screen looks stretched. I remember it used to be perfect, but after re-intsalling the system, it feels like installing NVidia drivers "didn't affect" that part. Another thing which really annoys me, is that when I boot up, bunch of icons which should be right next to the clock, appear on the taskbar as opened windows. So what I see is basically, the same icons in separate windows (KNetwork Manager, Updater, KMix...) opened on the desktop and with the windows on the taskbar (I guess I screwed explaining how it looks like), I have to logout and log back for them to get back where they should be. Does anybody had anything similiar? And also, this is a long time process, flash in firefox is really inconsistent, it works for some sites (for YouTube for example), but for others it doesn't work, showing only white frame (and most of the times it's like that). I have to manually copy the link to Konqueror. I have adblock installed for firefox, but I tried to disable it and try again, which didn't help :-( I have also some problems with sound, first thing is that the buttons on the laptop for sound control doesn't work, and if I click on Kmix it shows headphones on the top of the slider, and slider is just not chaning the sound. I tried to change somwhow so that it doesn't show the headphones on the top, thinking that that might be the reason, but couldn't find how... Sorry for the mess above, and thanks for any help! [opensuse] Two GKrellM Questions

Hi, I recently discovered that GKrellM includes client / server capabilities wherein a GKrellM display on one system (the client) can present the information from another (the server). When I learned this, I set up a monitor on my primary system to display the information for my secondary (server) box. Two things have come up for me since I started using it this way: 1) If the server's host is rebooted, the client never picks up a new connection to the (restarted) server. Can it be made to do so? Right now, I must manually restart it, which is less than ideal. 2) The complement of sensors available on the remote client is not the same as those available on the server's machine when GKrellM is run there locally (not in client/server mode). In particular, the GPU (video card processor) temperature is available for display for display in GKrellM when run on the same host as that video card, but it is not available for display when monitoring that host remotely. Why? Can I make the GPU temperature available for the remote client? If so, how? Thanks. [opensuse] pdf editor--does it work on Mac?

A friend is using basically Mac to edit a newsletter. Q1. What open-source software can edit pdf files, and, Q2. can this be run on the Mac, somehow. (I know the Mac is running a version of Unix.) I also know that OO can output pdf code, and can be run on Mac, but a fairly long search of Google info does not indicate that OO can edit pdf input. The pdf files are a combination of text and pictorial (music notation) and only the text needs to be edited. Listmates, I am trying to use a bash list to move a group of files and directories under a single directory. It works, but I get a bash error I want to eliminate. How do I do it right so I can eliminate the error? Here is the situation. [opensuse] Install question

Is there a way to create a boot iso cd that will allow you to install any version of the OS? The reason for the question is that I created a boot cd for 10.3, which gave me problems after the install (I am new to OpenSuse). I then tried to install 10.2 using the 10.3 boot cd which failed the checksum, I believe it to be because of the different release versions.
