This is/was a working partition (about 60% free) that was fine untill I tried to install opensuse 11b1 on some other partition on another raid array unsuccessfully. This (about) 2TB partition still appears but the size is now wrong. yast will not mount it so I cannot tell if data is corrupted. fdisk tells me I have a lot of "unallocated" space on the raid array. [opensuse] DISPLAYMANAGER_STARTS_XSERVER=no without effect

Hi, a sysconfig setting of DISPLAYMANAGER_STARTS_XSERVER=no seems to have no effect: the local Xserver is started nevertheless. In a similar thread (in the German mailing list), I have found the recommendation to use runlevel 3 in this case. However, this does not solve my problem as I want the display manager to grant *remote* access (without additionally opening a local display). Did I miss something? openSUSE 10.3 with patches up to 2008-05-08. [opensuse] Ughh. What Happened to Compiz in (compiz-0.7.4-11.1)

J, All: What in the world happened to compiz in the 0.7.4 release? Wobbly windows looks terrible. The title bar on the windows now expands and contracts bigtime which has radically changed the look of the effect. I looked for a way to turn it off, but I didn't find any new options. [opensuse] Compiz XGL and NVIDIA (without AIGLX)

Before I begin, I did follow numerous wiki pages on XGL/AIGLX and compiz - most of them assume you are going to use AIGLX when running NVIDIA hardware. I had compiz installed (from instructions on the opensuse wiki pages), using AIGLX and closed NVIDIA driver. Worked great. After reading that XGL may be faster that AIGLX, I tried to get it to work. Installed xgl, removed Composite from xorg, and enabled xgl with gnome-xgl-switch. But after a afternoon of fiddling it just didnt want to work. So, I disabled compiz (touch the file in ~/.config/compiz/compiz-disable), removed the Autostart fusion-icon link in .kde/Autostart. But this morning after a reboot (I usually suspend to disk) I have XGL/compiz running? Where is it started from? I guess somewhere in gnome world (I run KDE). Btw, it runs lightning fast, much faster than AIGLX (is this a driver issue, Im on the laterst stable nvidia driver). [opensuse] unwiling start and stop of opensuse11-kde-session

When I startup my machine it will first give a message "could not start window manager". Subsequently I give the command "startkde" and my machine starts fine. When I want to stop it (and close it down), it worked fine in earlier versions to right-click the mouse, and subse- quently indicate "leave". I still can do that, but this only leaves KDE, and the machine continues to run. Anyone a suggestion what to do to make the machine start running KDE from the beginning, and to really shut down the machine when I tell it to Leave? [opensuse] OpenSuse 10.3 Updater seems to be hung up

Hi I installed 10.3 some time ago and had a problem with auto update that fixed itself following an update plus reboot and all was ok. I've re installed for dual booting with XP and have had all sorts of problems but that's another story. This time the auto updater came up with a message that stated that there is an update for your updater. I accepted it. It now just hangs showing updating... after I have accepted 150 plus updates including I think 4 kernel patches. I'm using the repositories it suggested and have left in this state for 10hrs. Also rebooted after closing the updater but it still offers the updates and then just hangs.
