[opensuse] Font on Gnome Panel

I have the Gnome desktop setup for her and it works fine with one small exception. She's like to have the panel be transparent. Now, we know how to make it transparent. The only problem is that the color of the font on the panel is black. as such, it can't be seen against the dark desktop background she has. So, the question is, how can she change the color of the font on the panel? For example, the word "Computer" next to the main menu button is black. So is the font for any program shown in the Window List. Any help is greatly appreciated. Listmates, Where do you configure the setting for mail to send mail as user(a)domain.com instead of sending as user(a)host.domain.com? [opensuse] Wich BackUp Tool?

Hi all, I am in the need to back up the whole /user and I would like to do this by differential backup every night. My intended retain schema is 7days, 4 weeks and 12 months. On sunday I would run a full one (and keep it for 4 weeks) and every day I want to run a differential backup. Every Month I want to run a full backup too (and keep it for 12 months) Do you have any suggestion about this? I would like to have an handy too to do this... [opensuse] Behavior of the New Software applet

The icon of this applet is permanently orange in color. At irregular intervals (several times a day), it puts up a notice telling me that new software is ready and inviting me to install it. After the apparently spurious installation is complete, the icon becomes green (which it ought to be most of the time) for a matter of a few seconds, then returns to its usual (abnormal) orange condition. [opensuse] Cross-compilation environment for mipsel-uclibc packages?

Hi, just wondering if someone has already conveniently packaged gcc etc for cross-compilation on the linux-mipsel-uclibc target so I don't have to look into that myself. ;-) (I want to work on the Popcorn Hour NMT, which is a Syabas/Sigma SMP8635 environment.) It seems we are running the same thing there: 3 Serial ports: SRV01 # dmesg | grep tty serial8250: ttyS0 at I/O 0x3f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A 00:0f: ttyS0 at I/O 0x3f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A 0000:03:00.0: ttyS1 at I/O 0xec00 (irq = 19) is a 16550A 0000:03:00.0: ttyS2 at I/O 0xec08 (irq = 19) is a 16550A One for Serial Console, one for the FaxModem and one for the UPS. I've added my brand new 2 serial port card 10 minutes ago, rebooted and just run the "faxaddmodem" of Hylafax... I just told to this script to use the ttyS1and everything has went smooth!! I had no need to run any command to "mount" the new com ports... Maybe you can try to check if the modem is working... Or if you have a nullmodem cable and you are running, like me, a serial console, you can connect the ttyS0 (I assume is for the console) to the ttyS1 (that I assume is for the faxmodem) and see if the com port is working fine! Use minicom for this test. [opensuse] memtest86 skipping 3/4 of a pass ?

I've got a new workstation with 4Gb RAM - it's been showing signs of instability, so I ran memtest86+ v1.70 for about 13 hours last night. I had a sneaking suspicion that memtest was cutting things short - I had seen the pass completion bar at 23-24%, only to see it having started on the next pass only 5 minutes later. So I videotaped a couple of ours worth, and sure enough - memtest completes 25% of a pass after which it starts the next pass. [opensuse] cd music--help!

I finally got some speakers that sound OK, and I found a site on the web that plays music that I don't care for, but it proves that they work. Now, how do I play a CD? I have two CD drives, one a recorder, one just a player. I don't know how to mount them--if that's required--and I don't know how to make the sound come out. And I don't know what they're called, either. I know all this was discussed 5 years ago, but I've forgotten the answers. Also, it would be nice to have a control that makes one left/right speaker louder than the other, for better balance, but that does not seem to exist on the mixer panel. tia--doug Blessed are the peacemakers ... for they shall be shot at from both sides. --A.M.
