[opensuse] Howto tell mail (mailx) to send with user@domain not user@host.domain?
Listmates, Where do you configure the setting for mail to send mail as user@domain.com instead of sending as user@host.domain.com? I've looked at .mailrc options, no help, I've read man mailx no help. Where is this little setting stored? -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E. The mail is submitted to Postfix, and Postfix by default adds the hostname to qualify the sender address: postconf -d myorigin myorigin = $myhostname You probably want $myorigin = $mydomain -- Sandy List replies only please! Thanks Sandy, I hadn't thought about postfix running on my laptop. Sheesh, that was a slap in the face :o And, last night, fiddling with this, I thought, "Gee, if this was going through postfix, it would be easy to fix!" I need more rest... -- David C. Tsk, tsk... Use -r. -r address Sets the From address. Overrides any from variable specified in environment or startup files. Tilde escapes are disabled. The -r address options are passed to the mail transfer agent unless SMTP is used. This option exists for compatibility only; it is recommended to set the from variable directly instead. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Yes, yes, I saw that Carlos, I was trying to handle it from a config standpoint and had a CRI or id10t moment not thinking about postfix running on my laptop. I'm 40 so I'm entitled to a brain dead moment now and again (hopefully rarely though). -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E.
