[opensuse] Image resizing?

Is there a Linux utility that I can use to convert a folder of larger images to 480x234, the native size for the digital picture frame my wife bought me? It occurs to me that it probably would be more efficient if I fed it images that are its default size, so that it doesn't need to scale them down. [opensuse] Beagle crashes hard my machine. Removing beagle impedes nautilus from running.

[opensuse] Am I the only one?

Am I the only one who's happy with v11.1 and KDE4? I'm a cautious user. Here at home, we have four machines running Linux -- our server, my desktop workstation, my wife's desktop workstation, and one of my laptops. My laptop isn't an important machine. It doesn't archive emails, or run Apache. It's not an FTP server. It's just a machine that I can use to read and write emails (as I'm doing now), and browse the web. So it seemed like the perfect first choice to try the new stuff. After using 11.0 with KDE4, and updating it to 11.1 with KDE4, my experience was so generally favorable on the laptop that i likewise updated my desktop. Once I found that everything I need on that machine seemed unaffected by the update, I did the same with my wife's desktop. She loves it. It was with grave trepidation that i considered updating the server. It was working fine with v10.3 and KDE3. And that's where our email archives, shared DejaClick macros, digital images, MP3s, and ripped DVDs are. Not to mention my web site, mono projects, and our svn repositories. In fact, I did have problems with the NIS server that prevented us from logging on to the other machines as ordinary users. After a couple days of trying everything else, and double-checking everything, I finally resolved that by removing the NIS server and reinstalling it. Problem solved. In hindsight, I could have fixed it in about 10 minutes if I'd only done that to start with. So we now have all four machines running v11.1 and KDE4. Neither of us has found anything that we wanted to do with KDE3 that we can't do with KDE4. And so far, I'm lovin' it! For sure, there are going to be bugs to fix, and features to implement. The same was true of every earlier version. But I'm delighted with what we have so far, and looking forward to what's yet to come. [opensuse] Scanning suggestions to replace XSane?

I'm looking for a straight forward scanning solution for use under gnome. As far as I can tell, XSane is the only thing around (and it's horrible). I've managed to create sane command line options and assign them to icons for most of what I want to do and simple functions like; scan multi-page to PDF, scan multi-page to email are now a "one-click" solution. The problem is with flat-bed scanning which requires the user to "preview" the scan and then select an area for scanning before completing the operation. I see no alternative than to fire up the full X-Sane front end which is what I'm hoping to avoid. I know there is a more comprehensive scanning solution under KDE (which I can't recall the name of) but it also doesn't really do what I want and in any case it is way over-kill. If anyone is aware of a very simple, straight forward scanning system that provides the following 4 options: multi-page to PDF multi-page to email (PDF attachment) flatbed to PDF flatbed to email (PDF or JPG attachment) please let me know. I had compiz working fine in 11 on athlon 3500 and geforce 6600, started on login by a little script ~/.kde/env/startcompiz: #!/bin/sh export KDEWM="fusion-icon" Unfortunately it stopped working after upgrade to 11.1 (done live on a running system). What is the canonical/recommended way to run compiz now? Preferably with my old settings. [opensuse] java impressions

I for many years I've used a small java program to monitor my e-mail that is in many ways unique (mailfaces). The problem was that since opensuse 10.2 or may be 10.1 was not stable, occasionally freezing the screen. Under opensuse 11.1 (java 1.6) is very stable and I have not had any problems. The only thing is that the fonts do not look as good as in the previous version. The same is happening with all the java applications I run (freemind etc). I still have not found a way to configure the fonts for java at system level.
