I don't think it was zypper misbehaving here... it's 3rd party repo updating (once again) crucial packages, which are part of the distribution. This is almost always doomed to fail at one point in time. @PMs: I thought such disastrous things were known from Alsa updates in the past? Wasn't the rule in PM now NOT to have any lib as an update that existed in the base distro? [opensuse] No CD audio

Openssue 11 x86 64 with kde 4.1.2. I insert an audio cd and kscd starts but there is no sound. I have system sounds but not cd audio. See attached files for screenshots. How can i get the cd audio working?

VMware is shipped with a few modules for some enterprise level distros, all the others will have to compile their own kernel modules. you'll need several packages installed, just off mz head I know you'll need gcc and kernel-source installed. [opensuse] Compiz Udates

I am a bear of very little brain. Using openSUSE 11.0 x86_64 and KDE3, I simply do not understand why various updates to compiz version 0.7.8 (and related emerald) from the X11:/XGL repository generally work well, whereas the ones from the new X11/Compiz repository generally do not work at all. As several recent threads have reported, difficulties in this area began a few days ago and then were fixed. Happy, happy. Similar difficulties returned today, at least for me, with the latest builds (compiz 0.7.8-12.1 et seq from the Compiz repository), which I have resolved by turning off that repository in YAST2 and going back to 0.7.8-9.1 and similar from the XGL repository. I'm not seeking to start a war of words. I'm just an ordinary user trying to understand what's happening here. More particularly, what do I need to do (or not do) to take advantage of available updates to compiz-fusion while avoiding complications from what are presumably version mismatches? [opensuse] apache .htaccess problem

Hi I have a .htaccess file but when apache parses it it throws up multiple login screens, one for each folder below the folder where the .htaccess file is stored. How can I stop it looking in the other folders? There are no other .htaccess files in any of the other folders. I want just one login to be able to access the folders below. Thanks. [opensuse] 11.0, yast zone files, no wildcards?

I am trying to configure bind with yast in opensuse 11.0. I hoped this would save me trying to remember all the brackets. However, I cannot get it to accept wildcard entries in zone files. Have installed kradio and setup channels etc, which it finds no prob. Tuner card is a Tevion Hybrid DVBT-220RF which I believe is the same as the KWorld? Problem is, I get no sound. [opensuse] New Firefox/Mozillarunner -cause inbox count in Tbird to increment intermittently

Listmates, Latest firefox and it mozilla..runner is causing side affects in thunderbird. Specifically, on occasion, if I have 8 unread messages in my inbox and I'm working on something else, next I'll look over and have 16, after the next auto check for messages, I'll have 32 new messages. Searching the inbox, it is apparent that _no_ new messages have arrived, but only that the new-message count had doubled. Who does this one go to? -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E.
