[opensuse] Problem writing to drive shared by Vista and Suse 10.3

I have a 300g drive with a vfat filesystem (created with mkfs.vfat) that I write files (well I want to write files to) to from both opensuse 10.3 and windows vista. (dual boot config, this filesystem is never mounted to both at once) However, when booted into opensuse only root can write to the filesystem and chmod has no effect. (For example chmod 777 /mnt/data01/Documents (the mount point) appears to run successfully because $? = 0, however the permissions are not changed) I did not see anywhere in vista where I could set permissions on the directory as you could in XP. The output of mount -v shows only one option - rw. #mount -v | grep hda1 /dev/hda1 on /mnt/data01 type vfat (rw) Anyone have any suggestions?? Could someone please help me install this application on OpenSuse 10.3 ? http://www.debugmode.com/wink/ -- http://software.opensuse.org/search?p=1&baseproject=ALL&q=wink 1-click install first lets me subscribe to a repository that i already am subscribed to, then reports: > Software installation > Installation was only partially successful. > The following packages could not be installed > wink Manual Package Download gives: "Open with Install Software" seems to install it but then just quits without report. Downloading wink from http://www.debugmode.com/wink/download.php extract all, open wink15.tar-1, running install.sh, then placing wink into /usr/bin, run wink from there gets an error message about a library. Wink is practical for recording tutorials from screen captures too. I am trying to setup sudo rights on a specific user (username: test), to use the command: useradd I have not used sudo before, and I played around with /etc/sudoers a bit, but I keep getting the error: useradd -c "JUST A TEST USER" -d /home/test -s /usr/bin/ksh test2 Cannot lock password file: already locked. My sudoers file looks like this currently: /etc/sudoers # create group LIMITEDTRUST with user test as a member User_Alias LIMITEDTRUST=test Cmnd_Alias PROGRAMS=/usr/sbin/useradd,/usr/bin/ksh # members in the group LIMITEDTRUST are allowed to use sudo only with the commands listed in cmnd alias PROGRAMS #LIMITEDTRUST ALL=PROGRAMS, NOPASSWD:PROGRAMS LIMITEDTRUST ALL = ALL I am using Suse SLES9. What do I need to do / change to get user "test" to be able to use "useradd" ? [opensuse] VirtualBox & XP-pro & serial madness

This is retrospective of what I think went wrong... Having given up on dos6.22, I was pleased with the install of xp guest, until I got to the serial needs. Try as I might, I could not get the open-source to talk to the "real" ttyS0 in "master", or the belkin converter as ttyUSB0 in my thinkpad... I have an extreme headache, having to reach back into foggy memory to deal with windoz, but that's another story. I finally realized that I had installed the XP-guest in master while NOT having the VB serial support turned "on", so XP didn't bother to install ANY com ports. When I manually installed them in the running guest, they became com3 and com4, and finally worked. Very nicely, BTW. Doing the same "fix" in the Thinkpad, did NOT work, as it appears VB can not deal with a virtual copy of ttyUSB0 and hand it off to the guest as a "com" port. In fact, most attempts at booting the guest with serial enabled would result in an aborted boot of XP. I then installed the "closed-source" VB (for the USB support), and after some more head scratching, and finding the Belkin driver for XP on the Internet, I can now see the USB-232 converter directly in XP as com4. (I must leave serial support turned off, and rely on the USB and XP Belkin driver.) WAHOO. I can now use an ancient program at work to align MDS Link radios. What a pain. Now then maybe i have missed something recently but ! i keep seeing stuff about one klick install and have several .ymp modules that arrive when i try to install software the latest being the KDE4 release "KDE4-BASIS.ymp" now question How the heck do i get these to actually do something ? cus i cant get a thing so far ..
