Dear all
I've upgraded SuSE 10.2 workstation by changed the motherboard. Both the
old motherboard and the new one have on-board ether card. After reboot,
ether network stopped working. I go to Yast -> Network devices ->
Network card and see two cards there. I remove the old on-board card and
select the new on-board card to configure it using DHCP. Reboot the
machine I got the new card working as eth1.
/sbin/ifconfig -a shows I have only 3 interfaces, eth1, lo, sit0.
Then my vmplayer stopped working and complain ether network bridge is
not available. Reading vmplayer document I discovered vmplayer always
try to build ether network bridge using the first ethernet device,
presumably eth0. My eth0 no longer exist and that's why vmplayer doesn't
work. The suggested solution is to let me start VMWorkstation and
configure it to use eth1. But I don't have VMWorkstation, it's too
expensive for me, if I buy a copy of VMWorkstation to fix this issue I
can use the money to buy some new computers!
Then next solution I think is to make SuSE use ifname "eth0" for the new
on-bard card. I noticed dmesg said something strange:
zhangweiwu@joe:~> dmesg | grep -i eth
8139too Fast Ethernet driver 0.9.27
eth0: RealTek RTL8139 at 0xf0a16400, 00:13:8f:dd:cc:03, IRQ 201
eth0: Identified 8139 chip type 'RTL-8101'
eth0 renamed to eth1
eth1: link up, 100Mbps, full-duplex, lpa 0x45E1
bridge-eth0: peer interface eth0 not found, will wait for it to come up
bridge-eth0: attached
Seems the on-board card /was/ eth0, it's getting renamed to eth1 for
some reason. This behavior is not noticed on other distros. I think I
can solve my problem by disabling this rename. I am using traditional
ifup and I tried using Network Manager wouldn't help (rename still
happen).
How can I disable renaming eth0 to eth1?
Unfortunately vmplayer is vital to my business; I cannot live a week
without Windows that runs on it (live a day without Windows is okay).
Too many business application rely on it. Name a few: taobao (monoplay
c2c online-trading site in China), governmental tax office website (if I
say I cannot pay tax because they require windows, I'll eat tickets),
mandatory ICP registration website (without it the website is blocked by
GFW).

I am not having any luck upgrading Beta1 to Beta2.
I download the openSUSE-10.3-Beta1_Beta2-DVD-x86_64.delta.iso (via
Ktorrent which is as slow as Christmas) and try to burn it with K3B. K3B
comes up that it is not an iso image. Burn it anyway. Sure enough, it
will not boot.
Try doing online update configuration. Will not work, there is a bug on
this. Looked at the tar.gz file, no info on how to impliment the update
fix that I could find. The details CGI leads to dead end.
Doing sofware management in Yast, it comes up with db locked. Delete
the /var/lip/zypp/db folder and try again. It updates and comes up with
the same error.
There is no full iso for the beta2 that I could find, so cannot even do
a new install.
After doing all of this, I insert a blank dvd in the dvd drive, hald no
longer comes up with a dialog box asking what to do with it.
So, any suggestion on howto update Beta1 to Beta2?

Hi lists and Novell,
as I set up a diskless boot, I am facing a rather desktop-oriented
problem. Have a look at this screenshot:
http://jengelh.hopto.org/GFX0/ohnoes.png
what we see here is
* opensuse/novell registration
* “wanna configure your network card?”
Is there a simple way to disable these annoyances globally? I really do
not think a user should configure around hardware! (In the past, similar
dialogs have popped up asking _regular_ users to configure hard disks.
What for? They do not even have the privileges for it.)

I am trying to authenticate Apache against a Lotus Domino directory via
Ldap groups. It's not working. I don't have much access to the Domino
logs. Is there a way to turn on more verbose logging within Apache or
something which will record the LDAP conversations, etc.? I have followed
the module documentation as well as I can. Authentication works fine with
"valid-user" as a requirement, but when I add "require group" it fails.
I just don't know where to go next.
Thanks for any input.

I listen to a radio stream which comes from here:
http://stream2.netro.ca/984capitalfm
This stream works fine in a browser using the MPlayer plugin. I am
wondering though if there is any way to get this stream linked into
Amarok. It is an ASF stream.... so maybe not...
Anyone have any thoughts or ideas?

Hello SuSE people,
Downloaded the latest nvidia driver last night. (100.14.09) RPMs from the
Nvidia repo. Installed OK, but, GLXgears shows only about 2900 FPS.
Shouldn't it be much faster? I get the nvidia spalsh at bootup amd my
xorg.conf shows nvidia as the driver.
Doesn't appear to be right. Any suggestions?

I installed VirtualBox SOE v1.4 from opensuse repositories. But when I try
to run it, this error shows up :
VirtualBox kernel driver not installed. The vboxdrv kernel module was
either not loaded or /dev/vboxdrv was not created for some reason.
Re-setup the kernel module by executing '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' as
root.
VBox status code: -1908 (VERR_VM_DRIVER_NOT_INSTALLED).
Result Code:
0x80004005
Component:
Console
Interface:
IConsole {1dea5c4b-0753-4193-b909-22330f64ec45}
the re-setup suggested /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup doesnot exist. What is
wrong then? Before that, I upgraded my kernel to 2.18.8.0-3. Is that
because of upgrade kernel???
