Hi all,
Reading some mails on the GIMP mail list, I ran across the procedure
to install some more fonts for not only Gimp, but the system and
StarOffice to use also. Well, I installed the fonts, went to the
shell and issued the command xset fp+ <font directory> and then the
rehash command and all fonts are there! Ok, that went well, but each
time I restart the system, I have to do it all over again? Is there
a way to make it permanent and read the new fonts like it does the
ones the system installs or is that a no-no?
end of line
Tracer
Shell commands:
xset fp+ <new font directory>
xset fp rehash

Hi:
I just bought this printer, thinking it would work right out of the box. I'm
running SUSE 9.3 with CUPS, and it does not seem to support this model.
Anybody got this printer to work? Any pointers would help.
Best regards.

Anybody tried it?, is it actually being used on the Opensuse project?.
Looks interesting.... Maybe it can replace workflow apps on
Domino/Notes...

SWAMP - The Workflow Platform
SWAMP is a workflow processing platform. Workflows are processes with
many people involved in many working steps. In a real world scenario
these workflows are highly dynamic, but still many systems try to
hardcode the business logic. That leads to raising efforts to adapt
the system.
Here is where SWAMP steps in: The workflow is designed in a XML based
meta language in one file which is read by SWAMP. Workflows can be
built from different workflow 'patterns' like simple actions,
decisions, selections, loops, but also custom code and external events
if required.
SWAMP builds a HTML GUI from the workflow definition file that guides
different users through the whole process, sends notifications if
required, assembles overview pages over all running processes and much
more. A SOAP interface can be used to integrate external systems into
the workflow.
These are SWAMPs main Features:
* Support of many different workflow patterns
* Flexibility in workflow design: A workflow can be specified in a
single XML file
* Workflow evolution: Workflows can be developed while in
operation (versioning)
* Ease of use: clear and straightforward XML based workflow
definition language, no coding skills needed
* Workflows can attach data and files
* Automatic web-GUI generation for handling individual tasks and
administrating workflows
* Running on Linux + Windows with OS-independant tools: Java, Tomcat, MySQL
* MySQL + LDAP authentication possible
* User and Role management, workflows/tasks can be restricted
* Mail notification system included
* Unlimited amount of different workflow-types on one server
* Scheduler to control time-critical workflow paths
* SOAP interface allows interaction with external systems
* Openness: Custom code allows unlimited functionality, event- and
data gateways
* Customizeable overview lists with filters

Impress does not play sound on Linux.
However, it does with Openoffice on XP.
I have had an exchange with the developer and now understand
what is causing the delay on Linux. He offers this as a work around
while they are sorting out the real solution.

However, it would be nice to substitute on SUSE 10.2 fmj which is
available for SUSE 10.2 either from Packman or SUSE, I don't
remember. However, I have not got that to work.
In addition I have not been able to translate his instructions for jmf
to a working solution as yet.
If anyone knows how to get this working on SUSE and would willing
to write up something clear for the rest of that would really be neat.
Cheers,
Bob

Hi, replaced the "i810" driver with "intel" looking for better results
on getting the s-video output to work but the server is using a wrong
DisplaySize leaving me with a weird desktop.
Pic: http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/7962/intelln4.png
I changed the config like this:
Section "Monitor"
# DisplaySize 331 207 <-- Old value
DisplaySize 344 222 <-- New value
HorizSync 30-62
Identifier "Monitor[0]"
ModelName "FD1631154WB4 LCD MONITOR"
Option "DPMS"
VendorName "CPT"
VertRefresh 43-60
UseModes "Modes[0]"
EndSection
But the x server seems to use the old value (already restarted it many
times), from the logs:
(II) intel(0): Supported additional Video Mode:
(II) intel(0): clock: 68.9 MHz Image Size: 331 x 207 mm <-- still
getting the old values
(II) intel(0): h_active: 1280 h_sync: 1301 h_sync_end 1333
h_blank_end 1408 h_border: 0
(II) intel(0): v_active: 800 v_sync: 801 v_sync_end 804 v_blanking:
816 v_border: 0
This is a Dell Inspiron 6400, X/SaX detects the card as "945 GM" and
the laptop specs state (Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950), any
ideas?

Dear my friends,
Our company is developing an application for POS. It includes: Cashier Machine, Barcode reader, Cash Drawer, Credit Card reader and inventory+repository. It's basically a PC but equipped with the devices for a kind of shop.
We are insist to make opensuse as the priority of its platform. And we need to buy the machine as the development environment. They are:
1. PC Desktop;
2. Barcode reader;
3. Cash Drawer;
4. Credit card reader.
So now, the question is which devices we should choose to buy so we do not have too much work to build the application because our "Development Time Frame" is not enough to also build the device driver, typical device manager software and so on.
If it's possible please also give me the information to buy the device from. Virtual shop (website) is also OK. We are in Indonesia as the hint if you have the information of the shop where we can buy the device in offline-way.
Please give me the information pleaseee................ My boss loves opensuse so much to do his business with. He assigned me to look for the information of suitable devices to buy for our development environment.

I'm running OpenSUES 10.2 on a Pentium4 system where I have installed
XEN and some guests.
One of the guests is a (opensuse 10.2) firewall with 5 NICs. Since we
have the limit of max 3 vifs' I'm exporting 2 with help of pciback. This
works fine most of the time but sometimes the guest doesn't find the 2
direct exported ports ("lspci" returns nothing). It seems to never work
if I reboot the guest and if I shutdown/create it works most of the time
but not always.
What can I do to make sure it always works?
Where should I look for the problem ?
Config data: On the host (dom0) I have
root@dom0# cat /etc/modprobe.conf.local
options pciback hide=(0000:03:02.1)(0000:03:03.1)
install sunhme /sbin/modprobe pciback ; /sbin/modprobe --first-time
--ignore-install sunhme
root@dom0# cat /etc/xen/vm/worf
disk = [ 'file:/var/lib/xen/images/worf/hda,hda,w' ]
memory = 256
vcpus = 1
builder = 'linux'
name = 'worf'
#
vif = [ 'mac=00:16:3e:00:0f:fb, bridge=xenbr0', 'mac=00:16:3e:00:ac:fb,
bridge=xenbr1','mac=00:16:3e:c0:a8:fb, bridge=xenbr2' ]
pci=['0000:03:02.1','0000:03:03.1']
localtime = 0
on_poweroff = 'destroy'
on_reboot = 'restart'
on_crash = 'restart'
extra = ' TERM=xterm'
bootloader = '/usr/lib/xen/boot/domUloader.py'
bootentry = 'hda1:/boot/vmlinuz-xen,/boot/initrd-xen'
On the guest I configured the network ports with "yast lan" and after
making the MAC static (it changed after each boot) it works whenever the
bypassed nics are available.
root@domU:~# cat /etc/modprobe.conf.local
options sunhme macaddr=0x08,0x00,0x20,0x00,0x00,0x49
Both host and guest runs a fully patched opensuse 10.2 -32bit

Suse 10.2 on Latitude D820, KDE normally shows 4 buttons for the 4
desktops. Under Compiz, it shows 16. 1 thru 4 are labeled desktop 1 thru
4 as you hold the mouse cursor over the button. Buttons 5 thru 16 show
up as desktop 1.
How can I get rid of the extra 12 buttons? KDE desktop config and compiz
cssm all show only 4 desktops enabled. Searched all of the config files
that I could find relating to compiz and KDE, but found nothing out of
the ordinary.

Hello Guys,
Do anyone of you use any tape drive for personal backup? I personally use a
2nd internal hard-drive where I perform nightly backups but twice a year I
backup to offline media (DVD-R DL media)...but right now I'm reaching 100 GB
of data...that's a bunch of data to burn! (even if it's dual layer media).
I know there are HD and Blu-ray drives but they're too expensive. I think I
can get a tape-drive for much mess.
I just would like to know if anyone recommends any particular tape-drive and
also what software do you use with it (just plain tar?)
Thanks!
Jorge
