[opensuse] SB Live questions

Hi, Last week I removed WinME from my home PC and installed Suse10.2. Everything seems to work fine but I have some troubles using my SoundBlaster Live audio-card. With Windows it was possible to record sounds that were playing on the speakers ("what you hear is what you get"). With Linux I seem unable to do this. In fact I have trouble understanding kmix for this card. I tried recording with Krecord, but it doen't record anything, I tried all "inputs" with some music from the internet playing. I still have to try other sound-sources though. Googling does not help. [opensuse] firefox segmentation fault

When I try to print <http://reprap.org/bin/view/Main/ShowCase>, Firefox segfaults: /usr/bin/firefox: line 156: 32750 Segmentation fault $MOZ_PROGRAM $@ I'm using Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-GB; rv:1.8.0.10) Gecko/20060911 SUSE/1.5.0.10-0.2 Firefox/1.5.0.10 on Suse 9.3. [opensuse] firefox works stable, finally

Hi, FYI, since Firefox 2.0 times, I was unlucky and unhappy. I never could use firefox stably on Linux. Any cure like disabling extensions and creating new profiles, and following the mozilla hints to stabilize firefox was done, to no avail. Instaed the "would you like to restore the previous session" box made my life more "colorful" Since the last suse build on my 32bit Box, ff could never survive 10 Minutes of surfing the web. I got so frustrated that I for one changed to opera and secondly deleted all the suse firefox stuff and installed the new 2.0.0.3 release directly from mozilla.com. What can I say, now after a full day of surfing the the web with mozillas firefox and another full night of downloading a few GB of downloads (the latter was just for testing, normally I do not use firefox for such things), I am still using the very same incarnation of firefox that I started yesterday! Or from Novell, maybe? :/ /* pasted text */ Bomb: internal memo shows MS planning to acquire Novell An internal memo leaked by an anonymous (and unhappy) management level worker at Novell shows an already ongoing plan whereby Microsoft will acquire Novell, by a stock transfer operation to take place in the next few months. Both companies have their legal teams working on the technicalities. The memo shows that the merge will keep the SUSE trademark for all products. Internally MS has already prepared a team to maintain the product, and work on the merge process, says the 20 page document, that seems to have reached most high level executives of Novell and MS. The worker, who anonymously sent an email with the attached memo to some selected IT sites to garner some extra publicity, claims to work at "NED Department at Novell". However, No Novell employees were able to identify this claim. A press release is expected to be issued during the next two weeks. The Novell board is said to keep working in Novell after the merge, to maintain the products and help the transition phase. [opensuse] copy problem

I'm trying to copy an .icc profile from my home directory to the Adobe Icc Profiles/RGB Profiles directory. I su in the console then cp -t /home/my directory/file directory/file.icc/ /usr/share/color/icc/Adobe_ICC_Profiles/RGB_Profiles/. The result is that the .icc file does not exist. [opensuse] Changing The Icon Size In The Kickoff Menu

Hello Does anybody know how can i change icon size in the Kickoff menu(new suse menu KDE)?Icon size is little bigger for me and i would like to change it to smaller. I know how to change it in K Menu ,but for the Kickoff i can´t find some advice. [opensuse] Can't repackage openSuse 10.2 LIVE DVD (modprobe: FATAL .... block_major_### )

As I have in the past, alter the openSuse Live DVD distro, I essentially just unpack the cloop.img modify it by adding some of my needed software and re-compress it, generating a new cloop.img. I also at times even made a new kernel, and altered the initrd.gz However, now, when I go to modify live DVD 10.2 I get a modprobe: FATAL ... errors block_major_## where ## is 3 33 56 just about every number .... oddly the original Live DVD 10.2 i get only two modprobe Fatal errors on block_major_3 (and 4 i think) but it still works, when I repackage I get tonnes of them. It occrus after the cloop module has been loaded, just after the kernel detects the IDE devices but before it mounts the /dev/cloop# device. It seems to be crapping (giving these errors on making devices?). since it is crapping before the cloop.img, i know thats not an issue. I am using the original initrd.gz The only thing I am doing is mkisofs repacking!! and doing so with ..... /usr/bin/mkisofs -R -no-emul-boot -b isolinux.bin -boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table -A "openSUSE 10.2 Live DVD" -V SU1010.002 -p feedback(a)suse.de -publisher "SUSE Linux Products GmbH" -o outer.iso -pad isolinux which aside from changing the name (to match the image) this is the iso creation command I have used for many versions in the past. what am I missing to simply be able to repackage? there must be something in the "init" binary start up script of the initrd that is trying to access something that isn't available due to some subtly that I am missing? Is there a document somewhere about the creation of the openSUSE Live DVD?
