[opensuse] MDADM - can't force build with 4 disks

Hello, I'm trying to build a 4 disk ATA raid with OpenSuse 10.2. In both the Yast module and CLI using mdadm I get the same error: invalid raid level: =raid5 My command line looks like this: mdadm --create --force /dev/md0 --chunk=64 -l=raid5 -n=4 /dev/hde /dev/hdf /dev/hdg /dev/hdh Both Yast and the CLI will allow the build using 3 disks and a spare...but --force SHOULD tell mdadm to use all disks for the array....and it does not seem to work. [opensuse] VPN connection to Sonicwall

Has anyone successfully set up a VPN connection from a mobile Linux system to a SonicWall firewall? Their Global VPN Client is Windows-only, as far as I can tell. [opensuse] time difference between system clock and OS clock

Could some one explain why there is a 5 hour difference between my system clock and the clock in opensuse? Opensuse is running 5 hours behind. I have the time zone set to Central. I don't quite understand. I downloaded the time zone patch today when I reinstalled the os. I'm puzzled. Dwain -- Dwain Alford P.O. [opensuse] Compaq Presario V3040TU headphone jack and speaker sensing problem.

Hi, I got another problem on my laptop. My speaker and my headphone jack got no problem. Both got sound out. But the problem is when I plug in my headphone to headphone jack, my speakers still get sound. What happen actually? Sensing problem? [opensuse] Memory Question?

Hello list members, this is probably not the right place to ask, but maybe some guru can answer it for me. I just ordered a new ASUS M2NPV-VM motherboard, it supports 4 x 240-pin DIMM, support max. 8GB DDR2 800/667/533 ECC and non-ECC,un-buffered memory. Ok, here is my question. I am looking at purchasing memory for it and I see DDR2 667 PC2-5300 and DDR2 PC2-5400, both of the memory kits are dual channel 2 x 1GB sticks, what is the difference between PC2-5300 and PC2-5400, both are running at 667 Mhz? For example lets say you have a user sally and here primary group is marketing. She has files all over the file server. When you copy those files to Windows you loose sally and marketing. Now to make it even worse lets say she has files like: rwxrw-r-- sally mrketing myfile when you pull it back from windows you will loose sally and marketing and you will have the permissions: rwxrwxrwx. I strongly suggest you re think the idea of using a Windows server. Depending on the amount of data, when I was saying 24 hours I was calculating on about 600GB of data. If you only have lets say 50GB of data you can do this in a single day. Remember while the data is restoring you can be doing other things. You need to plan for this down time or you will find yourself spending more time in trying to correct the problem that was caused by Windows. [opensuse] read only status on files copied from linux server to windows 2003

I need to redo my linux server an need to move the data files to a windows server for a week an run off of that server till I get my linux server rebuilt. Need to replace the hard drives an upgrade ram ect. When I copied some of the files from the linux server to windows 2003 all the files were read only an things did not run right when opening them from the network share on the workstations. Has anyone ran into this problem an know the fix for it. I have tried to marks the files on the windows server from read only to no read only and I still get the same problems. When you go to open files from the network share its says they are read only an they cannot be modified / changed. I need to run my server off of the windows server till I get the linux server back up and running again ( a week at the most if all goes as planned). Hello everybody, I'll bet this is a frequent question but I've been trying to solve my problem for 5 hours now, without any luck. In short, I can not enable DRI for my ATI x1400 PCIe. The Xorg log shows only the following errors: (==) fglrx(0): OpenGL ClientDriverName: "fglrx_dri.so" (**) fglrx(0): ATI GART size: 128 MB (EE) fglrx(0): [pcie] Failed to gather memory of size 131072Kb for PCIe. Error (-1000) [...] (EE) fglrx(0): GART is not initialized, disabling DRI (WW) fglrx(0): *********************************************** (WW) fglrx(0): * DRI initialization failed! * (WW) fglrx(0): * (maybe driver kernel module missing or bad) * (WW) fglrx(0): * 2D acceleraton available (MMIO) * (WW) fglrx(0): * no 3D acceleration available * (WW) fglrx(0): ********************************************* * I've found many people having this error but most of them could solve it by disabling composite, which I also did, but it seems that this is not the source of the error in my case. In adittion "lsmod | grep fglrx" shows that fglrx and agpgart is installed properly. Oh and I also tried setting "UseInternalAGPGART" to both, yes and no, but It always had the same effect. Does anyone have an idea what hinders ATI GART from gathering the memory it wants?
