[opensuse] kssh on openSUSE 10.2 ? Where ?

Hi all, kssh seems to have been dropped from the openSUSE 10.2 distro itself and the opensuse repositories... Is this known or someone forgot about it ? I've searched this lists archives and found no reference to this utility . Am I the only one to use it? Is there any good way to 'bump start' usb memory stick mounting in suse 10.1? I know sometimes it takes time for it to show up, thats ok, but if your in a hurry to grab a file it can be a pain. Hello, When my machine (SuSE 10.1) : Linux version 2.6.16.27-0.6-default (geeko@buildhost) (gcc version 4.1.0 (SUSE Linux)) #1 Wed Dec 13 09:34:50 UTC 2006 runs for a while (at least a week) I'm not able to run yast anymore. Both from the command line and from the GUI. the commandline mentiones : /sbin/yast: line 233: 7147 Segmentation fault $ybindir/y2base menu ncurses $NCTHREADS I saved logfiles, screenshots, hardware profiles and the likes, but i first wanted to ask if someone had the same thing also. its happen now twice (my two and only installs of opensuse 10.2 on two separate machines). the remote management (Xvnc), when turned on, then you access from the client, you get the grey weave X screen but no login box or anything, just X, no window manager or standard GDM start up. I,m trying to run JBidWatcher.jar and it requires JRE-1.5 , java -jar The only JRE-1.5 I can find in Suse-10.2 is a /windows/C/Program Files/Java/jre1.5.0_01. Ineed a command like: java -jar /home/mickey/JBidWatcher-1.0.jar . how would i run this with the path to 'java' command?? Hi What kind of battery time do you guys get on your notebooks ? I bought a new one on Monday and it is supposed to get up to 4 hours but i only get 1 hour 40 minutes. I have charged and discharged the battery a couple of times. I wonder if it's the wireless that takes all the power.The battery meter kpowersave freezes sometimes as well. I have been having an issue with my dual core AMD64 where the usb mouse and keyboard just drop off. Sometimes just unplugging them and plugging them back in solves the issue but sometimes I am forced to hard boot the system. It drops them every couple of minutes. I too had to boot with noapci. I'm not at the box I rec'd the other day for a "fitting" of openSUSE 10.2, replacing XP Media version. The box is an HP with AMD Athalon 64 X2(dual core) 4200, 1G RAM, and 250G SATA drive.....nice box. I have 2 problems with it. The first is it has a nVidia 6150LE chipset and won't use 3D with the nVidia driver. The biggest problem is that even though all USB ports were working (under XP), they DON'T with SUSE!! The printer that has to work with this box is USB and can't be seen. I've tried a number of "thumb RAM" and none are seen. They "light up" so I know there's connectivity but Linux isn't seeing them. This probably isn't enough data, but it's all I have without being on that box. 'First time I've had a box refuse to see USB. Thanks for any help! [opensuse] Unable to get Suse 10.1 + apache + ldap with TLS authentication to work

Hi, I've been trying to run an apache server that authenticates against an openldap server. Both the apache and ldap servers are from the Suse 10.1 Pro distribution. The web page authentication works with ldap over unencrypted and SSL connections, but not with TLS. The apache server gives the following error: [Fri Feb 02 10:55:06 2007] [warn] [client 127.0.0.1] [13158] auth_ldap authenticate: user hans authentication failed; URI / [LDAP: ldap_start_tls_s() failed][Not Supported] Other services can authenticate against the ldap server with TLS, so I'm pretty sure that the ldap server's TLS set up is working. Before I start beating my head against a brick wall with the apache configuration files, can someone please tell me if they have have suse 10.1's apache working with ldap and TLS ? If so can you please share some hints of the apache and/or ldap configuration to make it work ? Or is it that the SuSe apache and associated modules distribution do not have TLS support enabled ? So, here is an example. League official his honor Mr. Smith wants to set up a mailing list for his baseball league. Picture a hierarchical tree, with "ALL" at the root. "ALL" is an email list that contains everybody's name, email, phone#, etc. A subset of "ALL" is "LEAGUE", which contains players, coaches, parents, hot-dog vendors, stadium managers, etc. That is, everybody connected with the league, but not Mr. Smith's other contacts (like his friends, his family, etc) So, under "LEAGUE" are folders for each team. and for food-vendors, umpires, coaches, each stadium. AND, get this, any one person can appear in any, or all lists. If a person is added to a particular team, his info should *automatically* be added to all of the nodes above him. In this example adding to "team" should automatically add to "LEAGUE" and to "ALL". info cards should be able to be graphically drag-n-dropped to copy or move between nodes. Individuals need to be identified across several fields, not just email address or phone number because several people, like husband and wife, might share the same email and phone number. Thunderbird fails this. Integrated with email for sending to everybody in a list. If two lists are emailed to, no dups should be sent. And on it goes. Thunderbird cannot do this. [opensuse] Firefox fails complete exit via ssh or console launch

Been using 10.2 for a month now on two pc's and a laptop at work, and the kids pc at home. Yesterday I upgraded (boxed DVD) my main pc at home, and now have an issue with firefox termination. The kids ssh -X into "master", then launch evolution, firefox, etc in a shell. They immediately complained that firefox would not open. It appears that when they would close ffox, it would fail to remove firefox-bin, and I would have to remove it manually. I was able to duplicate it by "sux - (kid-user)", and then randomly found it would fail to terminate from my own console launch. All other programs launched through the shell by them terminate properly, it seems to only be an issue with firefox if console-launched. We just discovered that if launched in foreground, they can then issue a ctrl-C to finish the termination...an easy work-around. [opensuse] Another Xen question

I have 58 stand alone machines running Redhat 7.3 They run shared Apache, Exim, MySQL (nothing special). they're all white boxes with dual P3 or P4 CPU's and local IDE disks in them. They form a legacy platform that means they can't really be upgraded or the contents migrated off any time soon. The problem I'm facing is that if a server fails I can't install 7.3 onto an new machine. Currently use a Suse boot CD, boot into rescue mode, format drives and install GRUB, then copy a 7.3 image onto drive and boot it that way (needs a little tweaking to get it to work). This worked for a while but I'm really struggling to get it to work now. I'm thinking of buying new machines, running SUSE with Xen. Then run RH 7.3 as VM's and have a SAN with external storage. Conceptually I can't see why it wouldn't work fine but I can't find any data to suggest how many VM's I can get on a server. For example if I have 10 dual P3 1GHz servers will they all run fine on 1 new server with a dual quad-core Xeon CPU? Hardware vendors I've asked don't seem to know for sure and I don't want to fork out for extra servers if they're not needed. Any ideas, is there a rule of thumb for working this out? I hope someone can shed some light on this problem. I've been working on this for months and have tried the alsa users list. I would like to update alsa to try to get a micorophone to work with my laptop. I am using Suse 10 .1 with kernel 2.6.16.27-0.6-smp. The sound card on my laptop (a HP DV2035us) works but not the microphone. some specs on my soundcard: #lspci 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02) #cat /proc/asound/dev0/codec#0 Codec: Generic 14f1 ID 5047 I have alsa-firmware-1.0.13-0.pm.0 alsa-devel-1.0.13-0.pm.0 alsa-docs-1.0.13-0.pm.0 alsa-plugins-1.0.10-15 alsa-tools-gui-1.0.11-16 alsa-tools-1.0.13-0.pm.1 alsa-1.0.13-0.pm.0 alsamixergui-0.9.0rc1-558 The following tar.bz2 packages are availbble from ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/driver * Driver 1.0.14rc2 * Library 1.0.14rc2 * Lib-plugins 1.0.14rc2 * Utilities 1.0.14rc2 * Tools 1.0.14rc1 * Firmware 1.0.14rc2 * OSS Compat. Library 1.0.12 But I want to maintain the integrity of the rpm database by creating rpms of those packages using checkinstall. I did the following: $> bunzip2 alsa-driver-1.0.14rc1.tar.bz2 $> tar -xvf alsa-driver-1.0.14rc2.tar $> ./configure --with-debug=full --with-cards=hda-intel $> make $> su -, then root passwd : $#>checkinstall I built rpm's of all the new (1.0.14rc2) packages I listed in the same way. Then installed the seven new rpm's rpm -Uvh alsa*.rpm found all the audio modules $#> lsmod |grep -i snd Removed all modules $#>rmmod snd_hda_intel $#>rmmod snd_hda_codec $#>rmmod snd_pcm $#>rmmod snd_timer $#>rmmod snd $#>rmmod soundcore $#>rmmod snd_page_alloc $#>modprobe snd-hda-intel $#>alsamixer The new driver worked better and with alsamixer I got many more channels than with the original 1.0.13-0. The problem came when I rebooted - the card failed to work. I ran alsaconf and that seemed to work, but the Yast sound configuration tool fails to configure the card properly. Should I keep both the alsa-1.0.13-0.pm.0 rpm when installing the alsa-driver-1.0.14rc2.rpm that I created? I tried removing the alsa-1.0.13-0.pm.0 rpm, but then alsamixer does not exist. Which - if any - of the old (1.0.13-0) packages should I keep and which of the new tar.bz2 (1.0.14rc2) should I install? Any help would be appreciated. Hi List, What I want is to be able to switch different keyboard layouts by shortcut keys. Currently I have three layouts(english, russian and armenian). The default, which I can see in Keyboard Shortcuts section in Control Center is Alt+Ctrl+k, but when I use it and it successfully switches to russian layout, then it doesn't work for russian-armenian switching. I guess that being russian it's not Alt+Ctrl+k anymore. So, I've added alternate shortcut, for russian Alt+Ctrl+k key sequence, but it doesn't seem to be a solution, because then how do I switch from armenian back to english. I've also played with the xkb Options(though not knowing what it is, but it doesn't seem to be what I'm looking for). Am I missing something? Running SuSE 10.0 yet.
