Panel show warning icon (!) and the error message is as follow: OpenSuSE Updater - Error: A ZYpp transaction is already in progress. This means, there is another application using the libzypp library for package management running. All such applications must be closed before using this command. helper program returned: Exit Status: 4 Could you please advise me how to i go about solving it. [opensuse] Installation disk detection problems

New machine: Asus M2N-VM mobo (NVIDIA GeForce 6100 chipset) 2 WD800JD 80G SATA2 PIONEER DVD-RW SATA SuSE 10.1 (10.3 on the way, but I wanted to test the box) This thing has 4 SATA slots on the mobo. Near as I can figure it the order (when looking in the box at the board looks like 2 3 1 4 by experimentation with cables and what the BIOS says. All drives are recognized by the BIOS. Here's the problems: Only with the DVD-RW in slot 1 can SuSE figure out that the installation media is present (c.f. http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:CD_not_found_problem) but it *is* an SATA drive, one which works fine for installation in the machine on which I am typing this email. With the DVD-RW in slot 1, Installation begins, but the installer says it can't find any hard drives. Kernel messages show ata2: SATA link down (SStatus 0) Install with "Safe Settings" didn't help. Google shows various people having similar issues, but seemingly with different motherboards. Not sure if there's a driver which needs to be loaded or what. [opensuse] Attyempted Update Stymied

I was notified by the updater that I have need of cifs-mount, for Samba. The updater tried to install it but the effort ended with this message: Failed to mount cd:///?devices=/dev/sr0 on /var/adm/mount/AP_0x00000001: No medium found (mount: No medium found) Problem downloading the package file from the repository: Failed to mount cd:///?devices=/dev/sr0 on /var/adm/mount/AP_0x00000001: No medium found (mount: No medium found) Please, see the above error message to for a hint. I notice that my Wintendo box (vista) at work upgraded last week the Firefox version to 2.0.0.9 and then very quickly to 2.0.0.10. Is this a security release we'll see in openSUSE 10.2? I only see 2.0.0.8 out there. [opensuse] vsftpd ports

I've opened ports 20, 21 and 1025 to 1029 via SuSEfirewall2 on 10.3. If all the ports are taken is there a way of telling the next user to wait or try again later? As it is it just leaves them wondering and waiting and allowing more users makes the system too slow. Am I correct in assuming it's one port per user? [opensuse] Hacking Display Manager - Replacing GDM with ACDM

Hi, I'm trying to replace GDM with a smart card reader login screen ACDM. The software that came with the smart card reader doesn't work well on Linux. I'm thinking of hacking the configuration files manually to get things to work. In my workplace, I'm tasked with setting up a trial deployment with SLED and SLES at a rather big organization. They want to test whether their applications can run well on Linux; they are deliberating between Vista and Linux (notably SLED) as workstation replacements. One of their requirements is to use a smart card as the third authentication factor for users to login. Therefore, the normal GDM login screen that we see with default SLED/SLES/openSUSE need to be replaced with the display manager for the smart card reader. The software for the smart card reader in this case is ActivIdentity. Now ActivIdentity does provide the files for replacing the GDM. However, the installation script provided by them seems to be ill-tested. I say this because the installation is SUPPOSED to replace the GDM display manager with its display manager ACDM. Needless to say, it didn't work. I looked through the source code of their script and realised that one portion of the script that was supposed to patch the XDM file at /etc/init.d/xdm didn't run correctly. I then patched that part up manually. Lo and behold, it works! At least I thought it did. The display manager upon bootup shows ACDM instead of GDM. However, after entering my username and password, ACDM died and brought me to the console login screen (CTL+ALT+F1). The reason I'm enthusiastic about making this work is because this organization is quite big in my country, Singapore, and the deployment of Linux in their workplace will make the news, or encourage other organizations here to adopt Linux. What I can think of now is to hack the display manager configurations to find out what went wrong. I was wondering if any of you guys have any pointers for me or are able to direct me to any resource that describes the architecture of the display manager. I already tried to search online for anything related to ActivIdentity but there is nothing useful at all. The documentation that comes with the software is not helpful in solving this problem.
