[opensuse] Keyboard layout problem

Hello, I've just installed suse linux 10.1. When I add a greek keyboard it doesn't work at all. In the right bottom side of screen panel it is displayed the indication 'err'. I used the kcontrol to add the keyboard. Additionally I entered the command manually and I received the next faults. Hi Felix, the guys at Linuxant (http://www.linuxant.com/) have developed some drivers you could find useful for your Dell laptop (and some other Winmodems out there). I used them for my Dell D610 and worked quite nice... well, not quite... you'll get a 14.4 Kbps limit for the free-ware drivers (which was OK for me). The pay-ware version should work at full speed... never tried, though. It was given to me to "fix" the modem under W2K, when his original problem was a screwed up ISP with non-working phone numbers. He deleted files for inexplicable reasons only he understands in typical clueless fashion, causing the modem to be driverless. I tried for a while to figure out how to install a good driver, but without success, as it seemed the system was overwhelmed with junkware. So I decided to start clean by repartitioning dual boot. First I installed XP using a Dell OEM CD. That install went nicely, except if failed to find a modem driver. I tried the driver on the M$ updates site, but that didn't work. Then I used the Dell service tag number to find one, and it gave me a selection of different modem possibilities. I tried one or two of those without success, so proceeded to install 10.0 from the boxed DVD I bought. 10.0 install went nicely, and when done, the modem worked. So I tried again with XP, and managed to find a driver that does work. Then I decided he should have the latest SUSE, and did a clean HTTP install of 10.2. Now it has no modem under SUSE. :-( lspci says the following about it: 00:1f.6 Modem: Intel Corporation 82801CA/CAM AC'97 Modem Controller (rev 02) (prog-if 00 [Generic]) Subsystem: PCTel Inc Dell Inspiron 2100 internal modem Flags: medium devsel, IRQ 5 I/O ports at d400 [disabled] [size=256] I/O ports at dc00 [disabled] [size=128] Why wasn't 10.2 smart enough to install a working modem driver? Is this a proprietary software thing, a driver included on the boxed 10.0 DVD, omitted from the free editions? Can this be easily fixed after adding the packman & guru sources? [opensuse] Icons disappear in KDE when using Firefox

Happy 2007 all! :D I haven't figured out why when I start Firefox the Icons on my desktop (KDE 3.55) disappear. For instance, if the browser opens in the right corner position 0.0 and is say 1024x768 on a 1280x1024 then all the Icons behind this space are gone - and therefore when I move the browser window to see that indeed the icons behind have been blanked the icons where I moved the window is now gone. It's kinda like an eraser. When I close Firefox then as soon as the browse is truly closed the icons come back (theres a short period where the browser is gone and so are the icone). [opensuse] alternate boot options for installations

Hi All, I've got a box without the space or power supply to accommodate a CD/DVD drive or burner without a great deal of hardware reconfiguration hassle. What it *does* have is a presently unused 100MB boot partition. Does anyone have a short checklist or procedure for -- after I've loop mounted the .iso image to /media/dvd -- copying contents from the dvd or mini boot .iso into the boot partition so I can boot the installation kernel from grub? Once the installation kernel is loaded, I can manually mount the partition containing the dvd .iso and then loop mount the image... I've done this before... it's the actual booting into the installation kernel from Grub that I need help with. It was under Desktop->Window Behaviour , the "Focus" tab, the "Desktop Navigation Wraps Around" setting. [opensuse] XGL and Radeon X1300

XGL isn't working with my Radeon X1300, meaning I can't do the effects such as the desktop cube and 3D games. I've been looking around on the ATI website, and I found a driver for Linux, but it still doesn't seem to be working after the download and install. Hi Is there an easy way to verify which font are unicode/utf-8 from command line without actually loading in the font? You can set encoding to 'uni' in xfontsel and see which fonts are unicode when choosing family. Hi everybody, I always enable active desktop borders in KDE (gives the ability to change desktops as if it were all one big one). In 10.2 there has been a change in how this works however. When it is enabled, it now wraps around (if I move the mouse out on the left side of the leftmost desktop, it enters again on the rightmost desktop etc), which it never used to do before. This is a detailed description about how to set up an OpenSuSE 10.2 based server that offers all services needed by ISPs and hosters (web server (SSL-capable), mail server (with SMTP-AUTH and TLS!), DNS server, FTP server, MySQL server, POP3/IMAP, Quota, Firewall, etc.).
