[opensuse] Yast2 software install question

Hi, I have upgraded to openSUSE 10.1 from SUSE 9.3. Well, in fact, I made a fresh install. Now, I want to export the package list that is in use. In previous versions of YaST (at least in SUSE 9.*), there was a menu item under the file menu in YaST Software Install that allowed to export a "*.sel" file with a list of installed packages. It had the option of both saving the file into a floppy or into a file (see http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Creating_A_Customized_Package_Selection) I used this very often, in order to be able to rollback, while trying new packages, which I was not sure I really needed. This is useful, too, to make two computers have the same packages. However, in 10.1 (Spanish version), there is no such menu item. I have been searching in mailing lists and google, but with no luck. Could anybody help me how to get this functionality back or any workaround? SUSE 10.1 USB recognition

Hi all, I have two identical hardware systems. Identical SUSE 10.1 Novell purchased versions. On the one USB Card Reader hama USB 2.0 35 in 1 works perfectly. KMix keeps popping up!

My SUSE hard drive "died", so I have had to install it again on the new drive. I have installed all the upgrades, including KDE 3.5.4 "release 62.1" Now, when I boot, the KMix mixer window is always on the desktop and I have to exit KMix each time. Then, next boot, it's back again. It's not a big nuisance, but I wonder if there is a way of stopping it happening. I have tried having the 'dock into panel' selected and not selected. No difference. Has anyone else had this problem and managed to overcome it, please? Many thanks for any advice. Keith

And to be perfectly clear, I haven't done anything with mew so far aside from untarring it and reading some files. As for the emacs install: When I installed this CVS version of emacs several weeks ago, I consulted the INSTALL.CVS and followed those as best as the ambiguous instructions there would allow. So to address your statement above, "I would like to read that you ./configure'd accordingly and did a 'make install'", I can only reply that (1) I don't recall all the exact commands I used anymore, (2) the instructions in INSTALL.CVS aren't/weren't clear enough for me to know then or now whether I ran all the commands correctly for this particular situation, but (3) yes, I did run ./configure (that much of the instructions was unambiguous). > > I don't know mew, but it probably also has its own configure script, > which can name what it needs. Bristuffed asterisk 1.2.10 on Suse 10 - problem with module versionmagic

I'm banging my head on compiling bristuff modules for Suse 10.0 with kernel : Linux laps1 2.6.13-15.11-smp #1 SMP Mon Jul 17 09:43:01 UTC 2006 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux and Asterisk 1.2.10-BRIstuffed-0.3.0-PRE-1s. I get this : laps1:~/Voipy/Bristuff/bristuff-0.3.0-PRE-1s/zaptel # modprobe zaphfc FATAL: Error inserting zaphfc (/lib/modules/2.6.13-15.11-smp/misc/zaphfc.ko): Invalid module format and this in dmesg : zaphfc: version magic '2.6.13-15.11-smp gcc-4.0' should be '2.6.13-15.11-smp SMP gcc-4.0' What am I doing wrong? Collisions with cable-modem.

Hi, On my router having connection to our internal net through a hub and to the internet via a cable-modem, has constantly collisions on both ethX interfaces. I'm not surprised that the interface serving as internal card (eth1) has such collisions, mainly of the hub (3com, 10/100Mbit), but what could cause collisions on the other side, where the cable-modem is attached directly to the other network (3com, 10Mbit) card?! Update fails

This morning, I notice the orange ball on my panel, so I started the update. Instead of completing, I get an error message: "Transaction failed: Need media 1: File ./rpm/x86_64/ kernel-source-2.6.16.21-0.21.x86_64.rpm not found on the media http://ftp.ale.org/bub/sue/update/10.1 Anyone else get this? The same update on a 32 bit system worked fine. tnx jk

Switching off XGL

Hi, I installed XGL and Compiz on my Opensuse 10.1 KDE 3.5.4 desktop to 'have a play'. Following the instructions on here: http://en.opensuse.org/Using_Xgl_on_SUSE_Linux#Using_Compiz_with_the_KDE_de… Very impressed with it, however as I'm only running a 1.8GHz CPU it's a bit too demanding even with all the effects switched off. Also as it replaces my window manager all the KDE settings are redundant. However if I switch of XGL the Window boarders are missing and my keyboard doesn't work. What should I/How can I set my KDEWM to to revert things back to normal? Regards Matthew

yast: how to set up static DHCP addresses

Yo! i'm running a dhcp server on suse 10.1 and use yast to set it up. i'd like to assign static DHCP addresses to my 2 laptops. i know this can be done (read "done it before") via dhcp by storing the MAC addresses in the dhcp config, but i don't see how to do this via yast. Is it possible with yast or must i manually edit the dhcp config for this? i know someone's going to ask, "why assign a static IP via dhcp?" so i'll answer in advance: i need to make a port forward from my dhcp/router machine to one of my laptops so my boss can get to that machine. i don't want to always have to update my firewall settings to change the IP of the target machine. i use dhcp because it sets up the routing/dns for the hosted machines, saving me from that administrative tedium. -- ----- stephan(a)s11n.net http://s11n.net "...pleasure is a grace and is not obedient to the commands of the will." -- Alan W.
