Thanks Adam, The problem, as often, was the block of wood inside my skull. After I put a memory card in the phone, a mass storage device appears by magic in SUSE! Not quite sure yet why its internal memory doesn't appear to USB, or how to move things from internal memory to card and vice-versa. So far I've been able to move some songs to it but not extract any pictures from it. Still, progress is being made. Thanks, Dave

You have to use them on your own risk. As time permits, I maintain rebuilds of the "bleeding edge but supposedly usable" packages for older distributions. The primary purpose actualy is to provide newer snapshots for SUSE Linux 9.3 until the OpenOffice.org-2.0-final is available. These packages often have old bugs removed, but sometimes new ones added! ACL

Hi All, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question, but here goes. I'm currently studying for my SLES 9 exam and have been using the self study guide.. I'm trying to go through the LiveFire exercise, but I'm stuck. I have spent all day on these 2 paragraphs.. and I mean all day.. Since 09:00 GTM till now. I have searched the web and reread the section on the study guides, but still cant work it out. Here are the 2 paragraphs :- Set the mode on the directory /export/project so that the group owner is migration and user/group/other can read and write to this directory. Set the permission so that when a file is created in the directory /export/project the group migration is automatically assigned as the group owner. The directory /export/project is created and the acl option has been added to the fstab. I also have created a group called migration. I changed the group owner to migration, so /export/project is :- drwxr-xr-x root migration project If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be great.. Any help much appreciated. No help in OpenOffice 64 bit.

I have the 64 bit version of OpenOffice installed and have found there is no help available. When I open help, I get a list of topics on the left side, but on the right side, there's a long list of "You have found a bug" messages listing a missing file. Is there anyway to correct this? I have also tried updating to the lastest version, 2.0.3-1, but that didn't make any difference. The 32 bit version doesn't have this problem. tnx jk

System freezes "preparing to sleep"

Hello, yesterday I updated my suse 9.3 with opensuse 10.1 Since then the machine works for only max 5 minutes then it freezes. In the log I found: Aug 12 12:14:45 linux zmd: ShutdownManager (WARN): Preparing to sleep... Aug 12 12:14:46 linux zmd: ShutdownManager (WARN): Going to sleep, waking up at 08/13/2006 11:59:45 The waking up time is always 24h minus 15 minutes. I stopped zmd but the machine continues to freeze. Can anyone tell me how to stop this trange behaviour ? Thanks Andreas

More software update crashes

Hi, The software updater system tray icon indicated today with an orange exclamation mark that there are some updates to download. So, I said go ahead and update (there were about five or six to do, I think). After reaching 17% (from watching gkrellm, one package had been downloaded and installed), all network traffic, CPU and disc usage ceased. I waited for several minutes, then killed the software update process. I restarted the software update process, but now it hung at the "retreiving updates" stage. So, I killed it again, and restarted zmd for good measure. (rczmd restart failed, so I manually killed the zmd processes before rczmd restart again, which now worked). Neither zmd nor zen-updater were using any CPU, disc or network for some time before I did this. Then, I restarted zmd, and ran software update again. This time I got two error dialogs, containing the following crash information: ====== System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object in <0x003d6> Novell.Zenworks.Gui.ZenTrayIcon:CheckUpdatesLoop () in (wrapper delegate-invoke) System.MulticastDelegate:invoke_void () ====== and another, which was much longer (and probably more useful), but which I couldn't select since the one quoted above was application-modal and on top. When I dismissed this one, the other and the software update window disappeared. Now, when I restart the updater, I get only the one above, and it immediately exits. zmd appears to be running OK. Invoking Software Update from YaST produces a long pause followed by a "Another process is accessing the package database. Package management will not work!" then exits. Anybody have any ideas? I'm about to reboot the system. -- Bill Gallafent.

Stripping whitespace in bash script

Hi All, I'm working on a script which extracts the tags from ogg and mp3 files and distributes the files in a directory structure according to the tag contents. I've found that some files have tags with excess whitespace at the end. What methods are there for removing this whitespace in a bash script? Zen Fun - Update Conflict

I've searched and tried to resolve this but am unable. I'm really tired of this Zen updater. I think YOU seemed to work much better. Or - at least it worked. :) I'm now getting the message, "Unresolved dependencies: Establishing script:libzypp-patch-zmdrestart.sh-2-1533-1.noarch[System packages] This would invalidate script:libzypp-patch-zmdrestart.sh-2-1533-1.noarch[System packages]. Installation Media Questions

I have two quesitons about install media. I'm trying to do a zen update and got the error, "Media source ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/suser-guru/rpm/10.1 does not contain the desired media" when it tried to update Guru. I opened up YaST and went to the installation sources, where I tried a refresh. I got the same error. I then opened the ftp site directly and see that there is a directory.yast file and all appears well. What gives? Second: I often get a "signature check failed" message when loading either YAST software or Zen. What is that? -- Kai Ponte www.perfectreign.com
