I can not remove it, because everything seems to be dependent upon it. I realize when I run "SuSEconfig" that if it needs to mail a report it fails because of the wrong email program. I located /sbin/conf.d/SuSEconfig.zmessages and modified the lines for the email program at the end, but it still emails trying to use the wrong mail. Hi there, I was wondering if anybody knows how I can allow users thats doesn't have root privileges to use the date command to set the time and date. [opensuse] USB Mouse - Turns off.... then won't turn back on. USB Hard drives... can't unplug them and plug back in...

I have a USB mouse from a company in the NW US that shall rename nameless and I'm using a Dell laptop... however, I'm using SLED 10 and at random times, it will power off. Then it won't "powerup" - the light goes off, the mouse doesn't work... This also happens if I say unplug the USB mouse, then try to plug it back in. Plugging it into a different port doesn't work. In fact, the same happens with USB hard drives (although haven't had them power down) - if I unplug one, then try to plug it back in I get nothing... Any ideas what's causing this? Is there a way to restart usb with udev or something?

[opensuse] What is, Yast Descriptions

Suse 10.1 Updating with Smart package manager, I keep getting errors, Yast descriptions are not installed. How do I fix that, that has only happen to one PC that I installed Suse 10.1. Adding Mail to Kmail mailboxes

I use Kmail and Suse 10.0. I moved some mail from my old kmailbox to my new kmailbox (/home/.kde/share/apps/kmail/mail/inbox/cur) on another harddrive. But when I open Kmail I only see the mail I've downloaded to this machine, none of the mail I moved. How do I get kmail to recognize the new mail in the mailbox? Is there some default way to add mail to a kmail mailbox? Thanks, Jerome

SuSE Linux 10.1: USB HD no longer mounting r/w

Hi all, I have been running SuSE Linux 10.0 for a year or so and decided to install a fresh install of SuSE Linux 10.1. I have a USB hard drive that I use to to backups and store other files on which when I plugged it in on 10.0, I could read and write to just fine as my normal user. The drive has a label so it automatically gets mounted under /media/<label> when I plug it in. Now that I have installed 10.1, I plug the same drive in and it still gets mounted in the same place but it is read-only for normal users. How do I change this behavior back to the other way? This does not get mounted using an entry in /etc/fstab so the settings for mounting USB media automatically must be somewhere else and they must be different than they were in 10.0. Any ideas? SMART Downloaded package locations.

I have downloaded SMART and installed it on opensuse 10.1, when packages are installed or updated the rpm files are downloaded to /var/lib/smart/packages. I want to know if it is possible to move the storage location inside of the program or is it hardwired to /var/lib/smart/packages. The reason, I have several computers on a local lan and all are (for the most part, some minor differences in applications) identical. When I run smart update on the various machines I find my self downloading the same packages multiple times. When I used fedora and yum, I set yum to look at an nfs mount called yumpackages, all of the machines would look at that location and realize the files had already been downloaded and did have to do it again. [opensuse] Help with suidperl

Hi, I am needing help with suidperl, about a month ago, I install openwebmail, and it has me change the permission to 4755, which let openwebmail work, but the problem I having is all my other perl stuff has stop working because it gives an error that while running a premature end of script header. How do I fix it where all my scripting are happy? Could I take the rpm for perl copy into the local dir and point the scripts with the problem there or would it have the same effect? Any help would be welcome at this point. Kmail funky characters

On 8-22, Jim Cunning suggested a fix for the Chinese characters that sometimes show up instead of the Latin alphabet on incoming mail. (Sorry, I did not save the original thread, so the thread is actually broken with this mail.) He said go to Settings>Configure Kmail>Composer> Charset and turn off "Keep original charset when replying or forwarding (if possible)" I thought it worked--then I downloaded the thread of "I want to run Windows programs" and sure enough, the first message looked like Chinese. Another message a little further down from the same poster (Zhwang) came out in Latin letters and plain English. I guess it's back to Windows again. (I like Eudora better than Kmail anyway.) --doug
