[opensuse] problem with lvcreate and udev

Hello, when trying to create a snapshot with lvcreate -L 700M -s -n snap-usr -p r /dev/system/usr I get very often the following error: LV system/snap-usr in use: not deactivating Couldn't deactivate new snapshot. After googling, it seems to be a race condition when using udev with lvm. But I didn't really find a solution, especially for SuSE-10.1. Does anybody know more about this problem and the right way to solve this? TIA for any hints! [SLE] where to contribute rpm font package?

Hello. We have 3 fonts frequently used in our company but not included in SuSE distribution. We share the fonts by passing each other a tar.gz file where one can extract to /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts I wish to create rpm packages for these fonts so that the sharing is easier, but why not create the rpm package for everybody when I can create them for the company? Thus I think I should share the rpm packages once I have done it. The question is where to commit my rpm package. Ask Official OpenSuSE? Ask packman? Ask SuSE Guru? I wish to commit my package to the one which accepts package easily rather then taking a lot of precedures to certificate if certain package can be included or not. The 3 fonts can be packed into 3 different rpms. [SLE] Problem with installation of Suse Linux 10.1 64bit

Does anyone install the 64bit Suse Linux 10.1 release? I have downloaded all the n.5 iso images and burned on my CDs but during the installation from CD1 of "linux32_1.0_349.x86_64.rpm (10.65Kbyte)" the following error appeared: "the package has not been found on the media" If I click on details the following sentence appear: "Err:3: Package Isof-4.76-11 fails integrity check. Do you want to retry downloading it or abort installation?" I have downloaded again the iso CD1 file and burned it on CD. But the problem occurs again and in the same point. All the n.5 CD have been checked during installation and no problem raised on checksum. Flavio

[SLE] X applications using Xlib widget starts extremely slow

On a freshly new installation of SuSE 10.1 (machine Pentium III 700Mhz), with only "Basic Graphic environment", traditional X application (should be using Xlib widgets) starts extremely slow, but performs reasonably fast after started. reproduce: 1. login with xdm (gdm not installed) and enter window maker environment. WindowMaker is configured as X session manager by writing it in .xsession 2. Click XTerm icon to launch xterm 3. CPU usage goes to 100%, showing X used up most resources, mouse cursor can hardly move. This goes on for one to two minute until xterm window shows up, then everything goes back normal; 4. type 'gftp' in xterm, gftp starts in less then 10 seconds 5. type 'xmessage hello world' in xterm, CPU usage goes up to 100% like described in 3), the system almost no respond, xmessage window pops up in 48 seconds. Other X application written in traditional way (yudit) also launches extremely slow. On other Linux boxes (e..g Gentoo) xmessage window pops up almost immediately, less then 1 second. While on this SuSE 10.1 it takes 48 seconds. What could probably be the cause? Where can I obtain more debug info / log info to help you determine the cause of my problem? Thanks a lot! P.S. [SLE] Online update - I don't understand it

Hi all, Pls bear with me as I'm really new with Suse. I use Suse 10.1. and trying to do online update. I have searched the list and it seems that the online update mechanism in 10.1 is new and have some issues such as libzypp that we must update it first. Well, on the online update icon on the lower righ of the screen there are 132 updates availble. So I click on the update button, but then I've got this error message: Dependency Resolution Failed. Establishing script:libzypp-patch-zmdrestart.sh-2-1533-1.noarch [SUSE-Linux-10.1-Updates] This would invalidate script:libzypp-patch-zmdrestart.sh-2-1533-1.noarch [SUSE-Linux-10.1-Updates]. Marking this resolution attempt as invalid. In the list someone suggests to do Online update once to resolve the libzypp issue. But if I open the Yast > Software > Online Update. There is no package available for updates. I try to search libzypp, right click> update. But the version available is the same. Thus when I click "Accept" it's just closed. How to resolve this? [SLE] kyum/yum

Anyone using kyum to do their updating? My curiosity is peaked with this program, but I've certainly had my problems with it. YUM works nicely from the command line and I managed to get respositories into kyum, but it doesn't seem to want to do many files updating at once. I can do a few, 3 or 4 at once, but if there are, like last evening, 100+ files, it just seems to go off die. It appears to be a pretty good update tool, if you can figure out the thing. [opensuse] ipw2200 problems under 10.1 (worked under 9.3 and 10.0)

/* deutsch */ Moin allerseits, I weiß, daß es viele Nachrichten über wlan und ipw2200 unter 10.1 gibt, aber keine davon haben mir geholfen. Unter 10.0 (mit paar Änderungen zu der wlan ifcfg Datei) hatte das drahtlose Netz mit dem eingebauten Intel Pro/Wirless 2200BG (Dell Inspiron 8600) funktioniert....die Geschwindigkeit war immer gut und die Verbindung zuverlässig. Unter 10.1 habe ich die ipw2200 firmware und Treiber installiert, ich kann die drahtlose Netzwerke in der Gegend erkennen (auch mein Netz).....aber nur ab und zu wird eine Virbindung aufgebaut. Manchmal krieg ich eine Verbindung sofort...aber trotzdem scheint mir die Verbindung sehr langsam zu funktionieren. Manchmal bekomme ich überhaupt keine Verbindung und KNetworkManager und KInternet deuten an, daß die Signalstärke 0 ist (obwohl der Windows-Laptop meines Partners kein Problem mit der Verbindung hat). Ich habe mit KNetworkManager und auch mit ifup (und ifcfg-wlan Datei) versucht....aber immer nur das selber Problem. Hat irgend jemand eine Lösung dafür ??? Ich glaube ich werde zurück zu 10.0 gehen...wenigstens hat es damit geklappt... Gruß, Kristian. /* english */ Hi All, I know there have been quite a few messages about wlan and ipw2200 under 10.1, but none of the info I have read seems to fix the problem. Under 10.0 (with a few mods in the wlan ifcfg file) the wirless worked fine with my built-in Intel Pro/Wirless 2200BG (Dell Inspiron 8600)....the speed was always good and the connection reliable. Under 10.1, I have installed the relevant ipw2200 drivers and firmware, I can see all of the wirless networks in my area (including mine).....but I only get a connection now and again. Sometimes it connects immediately...but even then I feel that the connection speed is too slow. Other times it just doesn't connect at all and says that the signal strength is 0 (although my partner's windows laptop has no problems connecting). I have tried with KNetworkManager and also the traditional method with ifup and the ifcfg-wlan file...but still have the same problem. Has anyone been able to get this working ?? I think I might have to go back to 10.0....at least it worked with that. cheers, Kristian.
