I read an interview by some Novell exec this week that said they were working on the 10.1 update problem and that a fix would be issued the end of the week. Do the SUSE people here know if that update will fix the current updater that does not work or am I going to ultimately have to go through the gyrations that have been explained in another thread(s) here to get any updates -- even to fix the updater? Thanks for any info. I just installed today and if the fix is coming in a few days and the virgin install will get the update I'd just as soon not unistall zmd, etc. Chuck Davis

installer can't see partition table

Greetings, I recently downloaded and burned CD's for OpenSuSE 10.1 in the hopes of installing it on my computer at home. Currently, it runs SuSE 8.2 on an ext3 file system. The installer starts up as it should and seems to have no problems until after it asks me what I wish to do. I have answered all variants of the following: update an existing installation vs. install new and with or without packages on aditional media (which I presume to mean the add-on CD from the OpenSuSE site). I have also tried initially selecting "local APIC disabled". I have, howver, NOT yet tried installing with "APCI disabled" since my mothrboard supports it. (And won't get to it for a few hours, so I might as well ask while I'm on the sidelines anyway...) In every case, when I select "show all psrtituions", I get a list of ONLY the primary partitions of my two hard drives, and in no case did it seem remotely aware of the file systems in use. On one occasion, I decided to see what would happen if I told the installer to continue anyway. This got me the following message, which no amount of googling shed any light on. "No installed system that can be upgraded with this product was found on the selected partition." Here is the partition table (from sdisk -l) for the system disk. The other disk, /dev/hdc, is data-only. Ask a question to the upcoming OpenSUSE Status Meeting tomorrow!

Hi With all the problems and bugs following the release of the latest OpenSUSE 10.1. I find it hard to believe that I am the only one, who would find it pertinent, to ask a question for the upcoming OpenSUSE Status Meeting 2006-05-30. Last Status Meeting was cancelled because of lack of feedback from the community. I know Status Meetings are supposed to deal with the future of OpenSUSE. But I feel that we have arrived at a roadblock that demands our attention. Discussing what cool features we should be adding in 10.2 doesn't quite seem appropriate. Come on people! This will never work if we don't work together! Go to http://en.opensuse.org/Meetings/Status_Meeting_2006-05-30 and post your queries. A possible solution for those of us that have the Cherry CyMotion Master Linux keyboard

A friend pointed me to this earlier today... http://keytouch.sourceforge.net/index.html They have a configuraton for the CyMotion keyboards from Cherry... http://keytouch.sourceforge.net/keyboards_cherry.html I haven't tried it yet, but it looks likr it'll beat trying to recompile the old CyMotion driver that Cherry used to maintain/provide. C.

Parallel scanner only works as root

Hi, I'm trying to get my scanner (Canon FB620P) works as a normal user. The SDB is ver usb-centric and I think that the parallel port is quite different from usb. kernel update screwed my system

Hi, I *was* running SuSE 10 x86_64 with no problems up until this morning when I installed the latest security patch (a new kernel). Now I have no network connection, my system is running at a snail's pace, and I can't even reboot the machine. I'm used to having to recompile my Nvidia graphics driver, and reconfigure vmware whenever I get a new kernel like this. Now the problem I seem to have is with my on-board NIC. In the past I have used Nvidia's nvnet kernel module to support the CK804 network interface, but this now seems to be screwed. Has anyone else noticed this behaviour? Anyone using an Nforce4 motherboard might think twice before applying this update, rather than just accepting it as I did. Any hints/tips on how I might fix this would be greatly appreciated. One criticism I have is that the old method that worked is totally gone. I have used it briefly, while diverging in a sys admin job and installing Debian like crazy, and was not very fond of it... digikam problems

Hello List; I have an HP PhotoSmart 315 digital camera. I like it. It works. I've had it several years. However, DigiKam does not like it and will not recognize it. It's not on their approved list and won't work as a generic USB device. Any suggestions on how to get a SuSE 10.0 compatible Linux driver for this? HP doesn't have any and has no plans to provide one. I know. I asked. They said "not just no, but Hell No!" Couldn't find anything at Sourceforge. Please don't force me back to XP with this issue. I really want a Linux driver for my camera. Thanks in advance.

nikon movie compression

Hi My digital camera produces .mov files but a 40 second movie takes up over 11Mb. Is there any way I can compress this? I just don't have the bandwidth for clients to download it from my dsl line. Sorry folks. Have not had the time to reserach this. Just need a quick answer. Nikon 990, SuSE 10.0 apache and MySQL out of the box. Cheers, Steve

The ultimate audioplayer to communicate with linux would be an ogg player. Can anybody recommend an audioplayer that is capable of playing ogg files (besides mp3)? I'm looking for a player less than E100. I found 3 myself: - Irever IFP-180T (128MB) - Iriver N10 (128MB) - Samsung YP U1X (512MB) Does anyone know, whether it is possible to copy files to those players from linux? -- TIA Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless
