I have not found any decent documentation on this and from what I can see this daemon is just to detect changes in hardware like when you insert a cd-rom, a floppy, memory card, etc. Am I correct? They had thought of RHE but decided on SLES because of the price and the support from IBM on the mainframe. apache / 10 / executables in userdir

Hi, Have just put apache on this system ( several apt-get installs ) including mod php. Previously on 9.1 *.php and *.pl within subdirectories of ~/public_html were executed and run by apaceh. Now all I get is the option to open them with a text editor. I cannot remember which bit of the apache config controls this. ANy suggestions most welcome. TIA Francesco

how-to configure a remote printer

I have to make my laptop, running SuSE9.3, aware of the remote printers. The only piece of information I was givenis that the CUPS server must be set to: charming(a)fnal.gov Hopefully this will give me access to all the printers on the same floor. The way they set the CUPS server on Linux/Red-Hat systems is to edit the system file etc/CUPS/client.conf (or something similar). I'd rather do that canonically through YAST. Can someone please help me make the right choices with the YAST procedure ? Thank you in advance, Maura

Problems with X after upgrading

Dear all, I have been having issues with suse after upgrading from 9.3 to 10.0. The problem is <ctrl>-<alt>-f1-f9 doesn't work like it used to and running sax2 spits out errors with the xorg.conf file. Errors with sax2 : 1. During start up it complaints that no display is active. 2. Then when i try to test the configuration before saving, it complaints that the configuration fail and looking at the log, this is the error : (II) LoadModule: "keyboard" (II) Loading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/input/keyboard_drv.o (II) Module keyboard: vendor="X.Org Foundation" compiled for 6.8.2, module version = 1.0.0 Module class: X.Org XInput Driver ABI class: X.Org XInput driver, version 0.4 (EE) No drivers available. Fatal server error: no screens found Please consult the The X.Org Foundation support at http://wiki.X.Org for help. Please also check the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.99.log" for additional information. To get it to work i use the manual configuation method. It works but my <ctrl><alt><F1 - F9> is dead Thanks in advance.

Since the package 'nfs-server' provides a user-space nfsd and the package 'nfs-utils' provides the kernel-based nfsd, I'd say you've probably got nfs-server installed instead of nfs-utils. (nfs-utils conflicts with nfs-server, so you'll normally only have one or the other but not both installed.) do an 'rpm -qa | grep nfs' to confirm BTW, did you configure these systems manually or with YaST? What's needed for a move?

I'm about to move a working system to a newer O/S version, and to another H/W platform, I'm thinking of what I need to backup and move to get a functional result. The originating system runs these functions, Samba PDC and file server using LDAP as the user database. I know for sure that I need /etc/samba/* /etc/openldap/* /var/lib/samba/* and /var/lib/ldap/* Should I watch out for more?

Installing soundfonts using yast in 10.1 RC1

I have tried to install the soundfonts for my soundblaster live card, using yast and it fails to find them. I know it can be done manually so I'm not really worried about that. I'm just wondering if this is a bug that has slipped through the net? Has anyone managed to use yast to install soundfonts in 10.1 RC1 (or RC2) or experienced the same problem? Eddie

RC1 torrent very slow...

I downloaded the RC2 deltas and am now downloading the RC1 CD ISOs via torrent, but the entire downloading is at a standstill. I do not understand, KTorrent says there are 27 seeders and only 12 leechers so logically I should get good speeds, right?
