Mailing adresses

Is there any interest and/or willingness to let people have an @openSUSE.org email adress? Just a forwarder, not a mailbox. This could be given to people using their Bugtrack login. Advantages: People wil get an emailadress and then also have the login for bugzilla. This would make it easier for people to add bugs. People will get a feeling of belonging really to openSUSE (coolness factor) Other people will see the domain name, wich means free advertisement. Disadvatages: Extra server to maintain. Making rules of when to remove the account (X bounces, spam abuse) Extra trafic. Setting up and configuration What do you think about this idea and would Novell be willing to think about this, as this would be completely sponsored by Novell. houghi -- Nutze die Zeit. Kwallet and KDE 3.5

Hi: I just upgraded to KDE 3.5 using the Yast source shown on the OpenSuse web site. Kwallet does not have a wallet now, and all my passwords for pop accounts and certain web sites are gone. I can not seem to be able to create a new wallet using control center or Kwallet itself. Is there a config file that may have been lost? Any help would be appreciated. I think I have resolved this problem. I suspect smbd somehow just listens to the unused ethernet interfaces, and not the actively running one. This explains no log on the incoming calls. It was running Samba (and client) 3.0.13-1.1 with yast2-samba-server 2.11.14-3 and yast2-samba-client 2.11.5-3. Any attempt with smbclient -L localhost gets a connection refused error. The smbd daemon appears to be running on the system: /usr/sbin/smbd -D -s /etc/samba/smb.conf But probing the ports 139 and 445 get the same connection refused errors. There is no error recorded in /var/log/samba/log.smbd. I have tried: a. turn off all firewall (iptables -F and explicitely so from yast2 firewall) b. reinstall samba (now back to the DVD version 3.0.12-5) c. and copied a working smb.conf from another identical system. d. turn on the debug option -d 10 in /etc/init.d/smb, no error. No joy. The system is still showing a running daemon, but any probe to port 139 and 445 still get connection refused. It looks like smbd is not receiving any call. But with tcpdump, I can tell a remote smbclient call is certainly reaching this host. It looks like I need a more detailed start up debugging. Anyone any idea? Thanks. Peter

SLES9: howto make a full backup on DVD?

SYSTEM: HP Titanium server with SLES9 and DVD-RW size of complete sytem 1,7GB What is the best (easy, but secure) way to make a full backup of the complete SLES9 system on DVD? I tried to make a tar ball, but somehow it keeps growing (above 10GB), so apparently it keeps including itself. Jan van Kollenburg

I know we don't know yet if there will be an openSUSE forum, but if any, i will be in english, I presume. unable to delelete, view some particular files as root

Hi, I'm using opensuse10.0 with my laptop. During one of last upades (I do it offline) the powersave package refuses to install (using yast) because beeing enable to create some directory. as root I'm not able to see the existence of that directory when i perform a ls -l or with a file manager. Nevertheles if i perform a ls plus some initials of the directory plus TAB key the directory shows up in the options. if I try to enter, to see or to delete the directory I'm given de message permition denied. The same happens with chmod command. The file system is reiser and returns no error at startup when the fsck is performed. I'm lost and I do not know what to do! Efficient script to get the delta ISOs and applydelta

The fastest way to have the new betas. Get the delta.isos and applydelta immediately after, in the background, while the next delta is downloading. Pay attention to wrapping: wget and applydeltaiso are each one liners. for ((i=1;i<=5;i++)); do wget -c ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-10.1-beta6/delta-iso/SUSE-Linux-10.1-beta5_beta6-i386-CD$i.delta.iso applydeltaiso SUSE-Linux-10.1-beta5-i386-CD$i.iso SUSE-Linux-10.1-beta5_beta6-i386-CD$i.delta.iso SUSE-Linux-10.1-beta6-i386-CD$i.iso & done It's a simple idea, but it optimizes the process.
