Hi: I just upgraded to KDE 3.5 using the Yast source shown on the OpenSuse web site. Kwallet does not have a wallet now, and all my passwords for pop accounts and certain web sites are gone. I can not seem to be able to create a new wallet using control center or Kwallet itself. Is there a config file that may have been lost? Any help would be appreciated. Regards. -- Alfredo Cole-Tuckler

You should always start these kinds of questions out with "I'm running SUSE Linux {insert version} installed from {insert source, i.e. retail CD/DVD set, ftp downloaded from (URI), magazine giveaway DVD, etc.} on a {insert architecture}. You should also link back to the source of the upgrade installation files. Did you make any backups? Have you restarted X? Note: When I upgrade desktop environments, I usually log out and switch to a console (Ctl+Alt+F2 to F6) log in as root, run "init 3" to completely shut down X, wait for the command prompt to return, then do an "init 5" to start X and return to run level 5. (Don't forget to return to the console and log out root, btw.) regards, Carl

Instead of just "init 5", I now prefer "init 5 && exit" because I usually ended up forgetting that last important step. -- Don

Thanks for the tip, Don!

Thank you. It's solved now.
Remember, be sure to *never* divulge the solution to your problem. Especially if someone here assisted your solution. After all, there will probably never be anyone else one the list have the same problem and possibly benefit from your solution. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2

Hi Patrick, The problem he had was not unlike updating the kernel and forgetting to reboot. He'd simply forgotten to log out and restart X after upgrading KDE. He polite enough to write back, say "thank you" and tell us the problem was solved, so I wouldn't be tooooooo hard on him. ;-) Carl
