I know we don't know yet if there will be an openSUSE forum, but if any, i will be in english, I presume. So I contacted again the french SUSE Forum "http://www.alionet.org". first they answered to regret they will be no french forum :-). but is the same time, I asked if I could manage on they own forum an openSUSE page, and they seems to agree. so if all goes well I will monitor there a Forum dedicated to openSUSE, that is _not_ technical, but about the life of the community, the way users can benefit and participate... of course, I will summarise this here jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos

Once we have a forum infrastructure up and running, it's none of a problem to add yet another subforum for $language -- it's rather a political question if we want to have it ;) [But I tend to think that the answer would be "Yes, we would like to have it".]

Not necessarily... To be honest, I would think a french forum would be a good idea. To be more specific, I'd envision a subset of "international" (for lack of a better term) forums, with any language currently on the wiki being included in the forum. Now, since this is all still very open still, and even the forum is up in the air, I would say the idea of doing what you mentioned is fairly premature... I would wait further discussion until the forum does/does not become official, and then go from there. Also, as mentioned in prior threads, there are the legal grey areas. France, as of late, has been problematic in terms of software patents, and decisions that directly relate to the legality of open source software in general. I would be very wary about wanting to be consider an "official" forum, even in france only, not to mention its already been stated that no community forum could really be named official anyways. I never said I would make an official forum. anyway I'm not an official Novell at all. I simply said I would manage an opensuse subject (and _not_ technical, so no legal issue) on a french forum. Even if we have any french forum on openSUSE, I think sharing is still good jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos

Ok, I misunderstood what your intention was - I thought you wanted alionet.org to add this openSUSE subforum, and have it up for consideration to be considered the official french openSUSE forum. Regardless, yes, it would be good for there to be some sort of place for community discussion directly related to openSUSE, I agree. Though thats still separate from what the full intention of an official openSUSE forum would be, imho. Joseph M. Gaffney aka CuCullin
