wireless HOW-TO

ok, so I got this new Dell XPS laptop, and I installed SUSE 10.0 on it, dual-boot. Now I'm trying to get the wireless card to work. It is an Intel Pro 2915ABG. I've got the netgear router setup and working wirelessly to WIndows, but not for SUSE. I'm trying to install and get ndiswrapper working, but I'm... floundering badly. I was using this how-to: http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/mediawiki/index.php/Suse_Professional_9.x and I got to a page that says if iwconfig says "no wireless extensions" for my card I need to enable the config option CONFIG_NET_RADIO in my kernel setup-recompile and reinstall the kernel. I'm not up on compiling kernels, though I did download & install the kernel-source.rpm package. Can someone point me to what to do next??? either a how-to to add that option to a kernel, or a better how-to for ndiswrapper??? -- Paul Cartwright Registered Linux user # 367800

Suse10 to 10.1

Where on opensuse.org does it show the new additional packages in 10.1 versus 10.0 ? Or, can I upgrade from 10.0 to 10.1 and get any new additions in 10.1. I just hate it when you have to do a new install. Jim

LVM compacting

Hi, I have put 2 phisical partitions in a LVM group: /dev/hda4 - 20 GB /dev/hdb1 - 15 GB In this VG I have created 5 logical volumes, each one of them is 1GB. I have mounted them for /home, /tmp, /var, /usr and /opt Now, I need to use hdb in another computer, so I tought itĺl be easy, Iĺl just remove hdb1 from the VG, and I can get the drive. But it complains (in yast) that there is not enough space on the remainig partition to hold all the logical volumes. THis is not true, as all volumes are 5GB, and on hda4 I have 20G. So, I tried to doit from command line using vgreduce, but it complains: Physical volume "/dev/hdb1" still in use I can imagine, that for perfomance reasons or whatever, the lvm system have put some data on hdb1. I see ftp://mirrors.kernel.org/suse/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_10.0/develo… containing qt-4.1rc1-3.i586.rpm etc but since 4.1 final is released, can I please know when we can get the upgraded RPMs? Hi all, I would like to setup my plasma TV with EPIA M platform (CLE 266 chipset) and Open Suse 10 My plasma is a Panasonic TH-42PWD6 (40'') I used yast2 but I didn't find any plasma monitor configuration My EPIA platform has a S-video output (on the video card) but no TV card May I use yast2 for this configuration or should I make hand change to xorg config file (PAL, device etc )? Trouble reading DVDs written by K3b

Hi All! I am having trouble reading DVD written by K3b in the same drive as I write them. I am using the default version that comes with SUSE 10 (0.12.3) with the version that came with SuSE 9.2, I did not have this problem. I can read them in a different Windows machine, but not my Linux machine. I am using DVD+R diskshave set it to no multisession, writing mode auto and on the fly creation. When I try DAO , it tells me I need a DVD+/-R. After I burn, I can mount the drive with no problems, but a simple ls shows: /media/dvdram/: No medium found There have been cases where I can read the root directory and see what sub-directories exist, but trying to list the contents I get an I/O error. Suse 10.0 Tomcat 5.0.40 on AMD64

Hello suse-linux-e, I have trouble starting tomcat 5.0.30 on an X86-64 Suse 10.0 server. I get this error in catalina.out when I try starting the server: at org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap.init(Bootstrap.java:208) at org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap.main(Bootstrap.java:402) java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/apache/commons/digester/Digester at java.lang.Class.getDeclaredConstructors0(Native Method) at java.lang.Class.privateGetDeclaredConstructors(Class.java:1618) at java.lang.Class.getConstructor0(Class.java:1930) at java.lang.Class.newInstance0(Class.java:278) at java.lang.Class.newInstance(Class.java:261) at org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap.init(Bootstrap.java:208) at org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap.main(Bootstrap.java:402) Any suggestions why Tomcat does not start? http://www.plasmas-direct.co.uk/plasma_tv/panasonic_plasma_tv_screens/panas… The specs state roughly 800X600 resolution. You should start there and feed your monitor. If you have a DVI input, get a converter plug from VGA to DVI. You could push it to 1024x768 or x800 but I really know nothing. Contact Panisonic for best info. Use the stock LCD monitor settings in SaX2 until you have a good feel how the plasma will respond. It is not a CRT monitor so if you feed it the wrong stuff, you will get a bitch screen stating out of sync.
