Please list commercial apps that won't make the cut into openSUSE

Well, for now I'm using the name openSUSE for the version of SuSE 10 that I'll be able to download from the net, to distinguish it from the boxed version. Please, those in the know, list the commercial apps that will not make the cut into openSUSE but will only be distributed with the boxed version sold by Novell. Hi. When install the beta1 not posible for mi change the refresh ratio of mi monitor, in text mode yast presente the option for configuring monitor but is not usable. Regards

totem video player won't launch

Hi, everyone. Under SuSE 9.2 I used the totem video player to watch video clips. Worked fine. I've installed it from the DVD for 9.3 but it won't launch. I get the following message in the shell: gil@phred:~> totem ** (totem:17900): WARNING **: No GConf default audio sink key and osssink doesn't work ** Message: failed to render default audio sink from gconf gil@phred:~> Any ideas?? hardware detection

I have reason to believe that my devices connected to usb isn't detected bu SuSE 9.3. I have recently posted on this list (see "Wacom graphire3, agaaaaaaaaaaaaaaain"), and when I tried to install my printer it was not detected by YaST. In fedora and Debian I used Kprinter and things worked. Not in SuSE!!!!!! In the "hardware info" part of YaST the devices connected to my USB ports wasn't detected. I have 2 USB(v1) ports. But in /dev there is 4 "usblp" (usblp0 etc...), 5 "usbmouse" and 1 usbscanner. And I don't see the logic in that!!!!!!!!!!!!!! On one of the ports I have : --HP PSC 2110 (used hpoj driver in fedora and debian) --Wacom Graphier3 tablet with mouse an pen (or is it called "stylus"?) First: Is it posible to "force" SuSE to detect a device on a port Second: How do I know which decive file to use. In SaX the port for the tablet is sett to "USB" because i have no idea which device file to use. I get the same probølem with my printer. Which device file reffers to usb port the printer is connected to. On the 9.2 live cd everything worked perfectly, what has hapened in one relese!!!!!!!!!!!!! It seems that users doesn't have this problem, and googeling I haven't found out enything other than that SuSE has very good hardware detection (yea right.....) Equivalent of Network Neighbourhood ?

Hi, We did a test run on ubuntu live cd few days back in a typical office setup and here are some results. 1. Users wanted to open files from network neighbourhood with application (openoffice). File > Open > Network Neighbourhood > ... Say when a user logs in, he opens openoffice. Most of his files are kept on the network samba share. If he wants to open other openoffice files he wont open them through explorer but from with the application --->File > Open .... There is no way to open files from a network share WITHIN a application in Linux [except for mounting them in a local folder or through Kounquerer(spell?)...] Yes users even copy-paste files from with-in the application !! They have their application ruuning all day (say autocad or excel) and they wont bother to open Explorer unless it needed. There are other issues also. I will post them later.

Suse 9.3 DNS server setup

I have been trying to get my server to act as DNS server, however, have no luck. Read a lot of emails etc on the subject, but still no luck. I have 4 computers, one of which is a server, all using nfs. DHCP server is the router going to the cable modem. Setting up with yast, I have it setup as master for the site. Tried slave, but it asks for the master dns server which will not take a name, only an ip address. The hsd1.ca.comcast.net server will not return ping and comcast says it is a dynamic server so there is no fixed ip address available. Question: How does the local DNS server get the host names from the network computers? Resolve.conf is as follows nameserver 192.168.0.1 search hsd1.ca.comcast.net sha-server.site The nameserver is the ip address of the gateway and DHCP. Any suggestions would be welcome. Art

Following up to my previous post, I'd like to report that I've successfully got a sync on my ADSL modem, but YaST still doesn't detect this device on the NetworkDevices > ADSL item. Manually configuring the item with my VPI/VCI settings and username password etc is useless. A friend suggested to create a file /etc/ppp/peers/adsl with the following content: persist usepeerdns defaultroute noipdefault noauth #sync #noaccomp nopcomp noccp novj holdoff 4 persist passive lcp-echo-interval 2 lcp-echo-failure 7 name ***USERNAME*** user ***USERNAME*** password ***PASSWORD*** plugin pppoatm.so 8.35 and then use: > modprobe pppoatm > pppd call adsl upon which I get: linux:~ # modprobe pppoatm linux:~ # pppd call adsl Plugin pppoatm.so loaded.
