Will a favicon.ico be added to the website? I tried to make one as a
proposal, but it just looked like green slime. :-(

Hi all...
Using 9.3 with Kmail and Kinternet (wvdial too) I have a problem(s). When I
connect the address lookup does not work. Using Kinternet's "check
connection" it says
"Nameserver failure:
Address lookup does now work"
I then try to d/l my email and about 3 out of 4 times Kmail tells me that it
could not find "pop.gmx.net" etc. Can someone give me an idea what is wrong?
But useing Mozilla I can surf the net fine.
BTW this did not happen with 9.2.
Thanks,
JIM

Hello everyone:
As you may remember from 'dumb guy number 1', I saved my
old /home/mike directory on a separate HD and was able to recover all of
my working files. That's the good news. The bad news is that they all
are now listed as ROOT everything (user, group). I know there's
commands to change individual files, etc. (chmod, chown), but is there a
way I can change the permissions of a directory and all of its contents
without doing each file individually?
Any ideas greatly appreciated. Otherwise I'll be here
until Thanksgiving :-\
Cheers,
Mike
Since the OLS key signing I've been getting signature replies with this
message:
Encrypted message (decryption not possible)
Reason: Crypto plug-in "openpgp" could not decrypt the data.
Error: Bad passphrase
I was not asked for the passphrase, and if I extract the message it opens OK
with gpg.
I have since turned on gpg-agent and now email hangs and I have a bunch of
these processes:
SL 13:27 0:00 gpg --batch --decrypt
I also cannot open Kgpg it starts the icon flashed a bit and it goes away.
I'm running SuSE 9.3 with the recent YOU updates.

I've installed icewm from yast but I cannot seem to access it. Does anyone
know how to change the display from kde to icewm? There doesn't seem to be
any options in the login screen or the yast sysconfig editor that lists it as
a choice for selection.
Thanks
Eddie
In SuSE 9.1, Yast launches OK but when I click on [Install and Remove
Software] that screen comes up for a split second and then disappears.
What might cause that?
TIA

Hello all
I think i need help from people that understand more then i how suse has
designed the boot system
I have a promise card, sx4000, for ide raid
Please, no need to discuss about the merits or demerits of the card, or even
the company , because that will not solve the actual problem (the mistake is
already made )
The thing is that the card works well under suse 9.0 using default kernel
from install cds (2.4.21-99-default), using one module that is available
from promise site
I have been trying to use suse 9.3 and that same kernel but without success.
To perform the testing process i have been using vmware machines, even
without the proper fasttrak module, because the problems arise before that
becomes an issue.
If i install suse 9.3, clone the proper line in grub or lilo, reboot to
test, and then try to install the rpm of the default kernel from suse 9.0
The package installs clean, the lilo or grub gets modified, but the system
will not boot the kernel 2.4.x, resulting in kernel panic , like unable to
mount root in dev:08:02 or similar.
Is the system unable to locate the proper initrd, althought it is there and
the boot configuration is good ???? why ???
If i install suse 9.0 and then try to upgrade to suse 9.3, keeping the
proper line under llilo or grup, the system will not boot with the old
kernel, even if the vmlinuz-2.4.21-99-default, and the equivalent
initrd-2.4.21-99-default are there, the proper /lib/modules/.........
files are there, and the grup line is there, like it should .....
Why is so dificult to use a kernel 2.4.x on suse 9.3 ?? is it impossible
?????
I keep a copy of /etc under /etc.copia/ and /boot under /boot.copia/, from
suse 9.0
I even generated modprobe.conf from the old modules.conf, using some
information that read from
http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2004/02/migrating_to_26.html , before the
upgrade
Still the old 2.4.x kernel will not boot
Do i have to force the upgrade to keep some packages from the suse 9.0
version ?? (besides the kernel , of course )
Can anybody point me out ??
Many many thanks
Yours truly
André
Hi
I really do not like to complain, but is there a way I can reduce the
number of seeminly repeating email. Or can I just receive an email that
has the problem then a solution instead of every kind of unsolicited
email. Not knowing where the conversation started makes it hard to
understand. My next option was to unscribe, which I really do not want
to do.
I am still using windows because I do not know how to setup my SuSE 9.1
to connect to the internet. I need a step by guide please. I attempted
with my motoroal internal modem but when prompted to set up my mail
accounts I got confused. I have started reading unix books with the hope
to understanding better.
Which programming language does Linux use for creating applications? I
noticed that the openCD has C and C++ header files, a compiler for C and
C++. The question is can it also have the java compiler and create
applications in java?

Hi,
I patched a kernel module (lm85.c). To use it is this procedure OK :
make cloneconfig
make modules
then copy the module to it's right place and modprobe it.

Hi,
I'm trying to get the sensors of that motherboard to work.
sensors-detect found SMSC EMC6D100 or EMC6D101 (lm85 driver). I think
this is the temprature sensor for the board. How do I get this to work ?
I loaded the i2c-modules for the lm85, but running sensors returns 'No
sensors found'.
There is another sensor-chip PC87372, but this seems unsupported for the
moment.
Anyone else running this board and using the sensors ?
TIA
