Install 9.3 on a Dell Precision 370

Hi I'm desesperatly trying to install the version 9.3 on a Dell Precision 370 box without any success. I must say that the system behave very strangely for me. Let me explain : If I try to install directly 9.3, the system let me do the "installation phase", but, after the first partial reboot never show me the "configuration phase" of the process. Instead, I received a totally black screen with a mouse pointer. It seems that the keyboard is inactive, since no CTRL-ALT-xxx shows any action. I can install the version 9.1 on this system, but the installation does not recognise the network card (Nextrem BCM 5751, this card was perfectly recognised by the debian installer). After the installation, I've tried to update to 9.3. The seems working (but not the network card) and I could log into my system to work a few minutes. The problems arise when I've tryied to close the session. Same diagnostic as above : black screen and no keyboard. I've rebooted in level 3, log in and tryied to start X11 manually (startx). Same diagnostic as above, black screen and keyboard does not have any effect (CTRL-ALT-F1, CTRL-ALT-Backspace, CTRL-ALT-Delete without success)... The graphic card is an Nvidia NV45GL, but since I cannot access to the network, how would it be possible to install the NVidia driver ? Sax has used the "nv" driver... question about partition

a newbee question, I would like to install suse and windows2k on my laptop with a 40G harddisk. I want to give suse 8G~10G, 4G to win2k. question is how to make the partition? I plan to give 15G for C: where I install win2k first and then suse. 10G for D: win2k software. 5G for E: win2k documents. is this alright? is 10G enough for suse?

9.3 won't install on Athlon64 with SATA

Very frustrating. SuSE 9.3 is far too slow on my old machine (PentiumII-500) so I purchased an Athlon64 machine (Asus A8V-E motherboard, SATA hard drive, blue trim, pretty lights, ... ) Cannot install SuSE 9.3 from the DVD or CD media). General problem seems to be "locating info file" and a hang. Googling suggests problems with SATA and AMD64 combination. I tried disabling SATA mode, but get a non-helpful "Installation error". Novell's site is hopeless. SuSE only talks about SATA for 9.0. Any suggestions? Paul Alfille

Mouse problems

Every time I restart my machine (which I don't do all that often, but still often enough for this to be a pain) the mouse stops working. I have to start YaST and set the mouse up again from there using the keyboard. It keeps the old selection, and all I have to do is tab over to 'Test' and then it works fine. I've tried several different mouse selections, and all of them either do this or just don't work at all. I'm running Suse 9.3. The mouse is a USB wheel mouse from HP. Any ideas?

One of my PC's refused to boot on January 1, 2000 because of a bios bug (I had to set the date and time to the last century in the bios, boot Linux, and then set the date and time to the correct century using Linux.) EMP is like Y2K in so much as critical systems should be examined and protected against it, but my point was that if an EMP producing device is successfully employed against you, your future is totally f'ed up with or without computers. (So I am not going to worry about what happens to any of my computers, or anyone else's computers (unless they pay me a whole lot of money to do so :-)).

I tried setting in from the command line but I > still get the audio bell. You were complaining about the bell in vi -- the answer was only for vi command mode. Placing: set vb t_vb= in your ~/.vimrc would disable both visual and audio bells for vim only. (I don't know a solution for all other applications.)

Printing has stopped working and it won't get up

I've always had printing working fine. From Suse 5. something on. When I installed 9.2 it worked fine. Then for some reason it stopped working. 9.3 hasn't improved anything. The printer is found by the setup program. It's fully supported. Printing sends the file into the queue. It never gets to the printer. It seems things want to change the printer to A4 all the time. Changing it back to US letter yesterday helped a little. The printer then printed everything with one line to the page. That was an improvement but now even that isn't happening. FWIW everything is fine from Windows. Like I said the printer is found by the setup program. I've tried cups. LPR. I've removed software. Re-installed software. Short of format and re-install I think I've done it all. Nick

Hi all Just a quick question about gaim. When you add a new Buddy bounce to a certain buddy. So when u off line you can still send a message to your Buddy when He/She comes online. does it only send it once or everytime they come online. Regards Gerald
